He started as a elvis impersonator he can do an amazing elvis.
His entire bit is to do impressions of John Travolta and Elvis what are you talkin about?
He can sing and do impressions well. If he chose to focus on either one of those or both instead of “dice” character he would have had a longer, more steady career. He chose the proverbial lump sum.

Yeah, Dice is more humble these days. Since this interview he's gone through two divorces, had financial problems, health issues and dealt with the uncertainty of a derailed career. That would humble anybody. Luckily he's been able to bounce back career-wise over the past few years and seems to be more at peace with himself and the world around him.

The best part of this interview was, by far, the Elvis impersonation (which, in all truth, was excellent, in my opinion).
Why do they never understand he is playing a character?
Because he plays it so well, the line between act and reality are too blurred for most people to recognize.
This was 30 years ago, before the internet and social media.

The Dice Man killed in this interview. If only Conan was talented enough back then to really hang with him and feed off those setups. Conan looked nervous and like an amateur here. I know Conan now would of been a lot funnier. Dice is so talented. The man can act, improvise, sing, do comedy, do impressions, is witty, etc.. Very rare to see someone like that IMO who can do it all, and do it so well.

Also, as several others have stated; Andrew Dice Clay is laying it on thick enough so you can see the humour of it all. He knows exactly what kind of person he's portraying in his speech and mannerisms. And it's funny because of exactly just that

Years later Conan learned how to roll with things and not be such a dud. He also learned that people had acts and were doing them. Then he began laughing uncontrollably at everything everyone said to overcompensate for performances like this one.
Elvis bowed in heaven.. That was C.C. Ryder at it's best.

id only heard of this dice clay guy about ten years ago cos i grew up in England. No-one knew him then but his elvis was very good.
I knew about him back in the day. Around the time Denis Leary made No Cure for Cancer and Dice was sampled in a famous rave tune.

@@daveidmarx8296 No it was a rave tune that went around the underground circuit. Never made it to charts because it had cursing in it. However true story, I once hung out with a member of EMF. The guy was utterly crazy. Handing out acid and money like they were sweets.
