My own experience is that lysine supplementation does indeed clear up cold sores - and very quickly. I can take it before bed & the next day the sore has started to dry up and heal. And I have also had the experience of eating a lot of nuts & getting an outbreak. SO I think arginine/lysine ratio is important. I don't take any stock in meta-analyses from Cochrane Reviews - if that's where the 'lysine doesn't work' thing comes from. No need to worry about lysine reducing endothelial nitric oxide production - it does not block eNOS, just iNOS. There was a small clinical trial in Japan on supplementation with both arginine & lysine (IIRC equal amounts) that found it benefitted mood.
    ~
Sweet potato powder/smoothies seems a bit risky in terms of spiking blood oxalate levels & inducing kidney stones. Better to eat same was as Okinawans - cut up & boil them.
    ~
Natto contains nattokinase, a fibrinolytic enzyme (& yes, it does survive digestion & is bioavailable - M cells in Peyer's patches were found to take up lumbrokinase, a similar enzyme, intact). I feel better when I eat it). Also contains PQQ & spermidine.

Nuts are high in arginine, so too many can set off your cold sores. Lysine balances or offsets arginine levels, so we just add Lysine supplements when we go heavy on nuts, coffee, sun and premenstrual perfect storms……..(holidays in particular).

The Okinawan fat intake in 1049 chart by Wilcox et al showed fat intake at only 6% and protein at 9% and carb at 85% so at least one source showed the aged ones had a lower fat intake which could be a guide on what is possible in a long lived sustainable human population. I never get to see the live stream due to my location but I hope you could shed some light on triglycerides. My husband has elevated cholesterol and his triglycerides are through the roof. He is not vegan at this stage but looking at a drastic dietary change to help his health. The only issue is that his doctor told him triglycerides come from carbohydrates and if he goes vegan they will get even worse. He is strongly pushing statins, which we’re trying to avoid. How do we lower his triglycerides with dietary intervention?

Couldn't he swap some of his meat eating for soya or quorn, no added carbs, just less cholesterol and saturated fat.
All animal products contain cholesterol and no fibre.
All non-animal products contain fibre and no cholesterol.
Switching over should not only meaning putting less cholesterol in, but also the fibre moving more cholesterol out.
The average person has 5-10 pounds of food stored in their bowels, as it comes of the bottom then we replaced at the top of the bowels.
Shifting this will help him to lose weight and feel better, better mood equals less interest in foods that are bad for him. 80%+ of serotonin is stored in the gut, not the brain as most believe.

    Cold sores on the face?
    Not a cold sore.
It would have definitely been a nut allergy.
This person ate 150 grams of nuts, presumably in one sitting. That's around 900 Calories of nuts.
This is an insanely high amount of nuts to eat.....and would be more than adequate to stir the mildest of allergies, especially if they were salted.
    The solution? Don't binge nuts.

It was from the high arginine in nuts. Foods high in arginine and low in lysine (nuts, chocolate, coconut, most grains, etc) are known to encourage cold sores. Foods high in lysine and low in arginine help fight them off. I'm guessing that person also had lowered immune system function, maybe because of their diet, as it didn't sound at all balanced.

The answer is no it can't digest from bacteria down in the lower intestinal tract from human beings which is too late to absorb any food so the only two good things that a vegan diet is good for is losing weight and lowering your cholesterol but once that is done you got to get back on animal products that which has vitamin B12.

I think what Dr. Greger was trying to say is that ingesting more than the small amount we need is not a good idea.
