I came here to hear this song and share my story. Because your comment, I am leaving it here for you too. Thanks for loving this song. It’s my song. I wasn’t named after it because I was born in the early 70’s. It was very much associated with me in my childhood. My story: I went to the convience store just now. I was buying a tiny box of wine to have a glass. A nice gentleman paid for it for me. I asked him his name. Al, he announced and I thanked him for his kindness. I introduced myself. He was trying to remember my name and he was very playful. This is how I remind him. Him: I know I will remember you. Me: Call on me. Him:Valerie! Me:yes! Come and see me. Him: I am the same boy I used to be! I will remember you! How fun! So I came here to hear this song….. my song……. And share my story that just brought me back to this fond memory.
So wild, standing there With her hands in her hair I can't help remember Just where she touched me There's still no face Here in her place So cool, she was like Jazz on a Summer's day Music, high and sweet Then she just blew away Now she can't be that warm With the wind in her arms Valerie, call on me Call on me, Valerie Come and see me I'm the same boy I used to be Love songs fill the night But they don't tell it all Not how lovers cry out Just like they're dying Her cries hang there In time, somewhere Someday, some good wind May blow her back to me Some night I may hear Her like she used to be No it can't be that warm With the wind in her arms Valerie, call on me Call on me, Valerie Come and see me I'm the same boy I used to be So cool, she was like Jazz on a Summer's day Music, high and sweet Then she just blew away Now she can't be that warm With the wind in your arms Valerie, call on me Call on me, Valerie Come and see me I'm the same boy I used to be I'm the same boy I used to be
"Valerie Carter was a talented singer/songwriter perhaps best known for the album, Only a Stone’s Toss Away, in 1978. Carter dealt with drug issues throughout most of her life, although I believe she got clean late in her life after a drug arrest in 2009. She passed away in 2017 from a heart attack at the age of 64." Stay clean............ live long.
Another great 1980s song by Steve Winwood. The 1980s were a golden age of music in my opinion.
No doubt!!
Wow.
Yes!

I agree 100 procent.
Love this song. Didn't realize its about Valerie Carter, the same woman in Jackson Browne's song, That Girl Could Sing. Both awesome songs.
My daughter's name is Valerie, no clue this awesome song had her name in it, lol.
A great song by Steve Winwood, Just one of his many hits that has always been a favorite of mine!!
I've been listening to this song every now and then for almost 40 years now and those synth notes still give me the chills!
My fave Winwood song, hands down.
Heh. Glad to see this show up on my recommended.
So wild, standing there
With her hands in her hair
I can't help remember
Just where she touched me
There's still no face
Here in her place
So cool, she was like
Jazz on a Summer's day
Music, high and sweet
Then she just blew away
Now she can't be that warm
With the wind in her arms
Valerie, call on me
Call on me, Valerie
Come and see me
I'm the same boy I used to be
Love songs fill the night
But they don't tell it all
Not how lovers cry out
Just like they're dying
Her cries hang there
In time, somewhere
Someday, some good wind
May blow her back to me
Some night I may hear
Her like she used to be
No it can't be that warm
With the wind in her arms
Valerie, call on me
Call on me, Valerie
Come and see me
I'm the same boy I used to be
So cool, she was like
Jazz on a Summer's day
Music, high and sweet
Then she just blew away
Now she can't be that warm
With the wind in your arms
Valerie, call on me
Call on me, Valerie
Come and see me
I'm the same boy I used to be
I'm the same boy I used to be
God bless the 80s!

This is a great song
Love the 1987 remix of Valerie! Much better than the original 1982 release off of Winwood's 3rd solo album, Talking Back to the Night. 😎👍
It seems like the remix has a lot less reverb.
