I know it’s a big ask, but i wish he’d do this for the whole discography.
Blinkus Fishus I bring good news: he is doing all the albums from smashing pumpkins/solo!
@@elliotsteeves112 that is great news! I'm anxious to hear Billy talk about soma, silverfuck and bodies!!
Hope your right! I appreciate that this dude take time out of his day/family life to make story telling vids!
@@elliotsteeves112 just the albums? I'd wish he'll talk about b-sides as well... Include Mashed potatoes and Gravity for all I care ...
Hope this happens, I’m curious about his thoughts about Machina
Man I think I could listen to Billy talk about recording songs all day long.
Yep
I can't wait for Siamese dream album breakdown
'Crush' is one of the best songs he wrote.
Yes!
And ‘bodies’
Fun bass line, check out my cover video of it. :)
yyyyyeesss
This and snail are my favorite off Gish
Snail is one of the greatest songs ever written. Life is short and precious, Chase the sunshine!
I would love to hear more about the Pisces Iscariot cd, "Obscured" particularly!
Such a beautifully song leaves you wondering what it’s about to billy at the end
You have a great ear! Obscured is so good.
Whirr
@@amremorse awesome! Pisces has some serious deep tracks
Omg that album makes me feel like im ascending from earth 🚀
Janes Addiction paved the way!!!!
The Pumpkins had such a huge impact on my life. They were one on the first bands that I as a 12 year old kid had discovered on my own (without someone introducing me to them) and I clearly remember that for the first time in my life my emotions & even my soul have been so intensely affected & touched by music. Thank you Pumpkins for being a friend for all these years.
Ditto!
"Gish" is my favorite Pumpkins record. I liked it because it sounded like very unique heavy metal more so than alt rock.
Sup dude, saw you in Meat Puppets Comment sections (or R.E.M. idk)
Wasn't Billy playing in a metal band prior to Pumpkins? Makes sense Gish would be more metal sounding. Which I dig
@@daveg4236 No, he was playing in The Marked. New Wave
Yes. Absolutely.
@@void0094 probably REM. Much bigger REM fan than i am Meat Puppets. Murmur is their best record but Tales of the Reconstruction is my personal favorite.
Always love your music my mom was a huge fan before she died of cancer but yeah I’m gonna keep her legacy life absolutely amazing work brother keep up the awesome work
who?
Please keep posting deep dives
I (re) discovered siamese dreams and gish last summer and it inspired me to start playing guitar again after years of burnout.
It's surprising to hear him say they didn't have a lot of songs and ideas because there is some real pre-Gish gems out there. I mean, some of their best songs are pre-1991!
As a fan since the release of siamese dream it surprises me that out of the whole pumpkins catalog, gish is the album I listen to the most. There is something so beautiful and pure about it. It's sacred.
Yes
Same here.
I spent the summer of 1996 backpacking through Southeast Asia. I had a cassette player with me and room for about 10 cassettes in my pack, kind of a "desert island" scenario. Gish was one of them and despite listening to it countless times that summer I never got sick of it. I can still listen to "Snail" over and over again.
Hi Billy, just wanna say that Mellon Collie changed my life when it was released. Thanks! The only SP concert I've been to was Sao Paulo 1998.
Two sold out buses departed from my city Porto Alegre to a 18 hours a leg round trip do Sao Paulo just for the show.
Keep Rockin Billy 👍🍺
Gish is dope but Melon Collie is fire.
Love you Billy you guys literally changed my life.
Can't even imagine life without this band, waaay underrated. Cheers Billy and the Pumpkins, total genius stuff.
I know....so many years of constant listening
Our band in the 90s played so much Pumpkins that we could've been a tribute band, lol. Mostly Siamese stuff though (no tab book for Gish haha)...
Absolutely not underrated.
gish was/is/was/is insane, one of my fave albums.
I love I am one and Siva. Love love love. The thing I love about the Pumpkins is like many people I love all the hits however the more I listen to all their songs the more I love so many new songs to me.
How i miss your voice and smile... you are immortal...
Jimmy Chamberlain blew every drummer away with his playing on Gish. His fast rolls, ghost note groove and cymbal/snare accents were epic!. I was a jazz drum geek who loved to play that style with Rock and Jimmy took me to drum heaven upon hearing his playing on the legendary Gish album
Just talk about the whole discography Billy. Trust me , you'll have a huge audience of people wanting to listen
He is, this is a cut from the Gish album.
SP was the favorite band of my late teens. I am 39 now, my tastes are quite different today, but SP will always be in my heart as the soundtrack of my youth ❤️
a.m. remorse About 11-12 years ago I discovered country music which I guess became the love of my life. During the last few years I’ve also acquired a strong taste for jazz. Lately I surprisingly found myself hooked on chillhop (aka lofi beats, jazzhop). However my ‘go-to’ music is still country. And what are your musical interests nowadays?
I wish to see you one more time in México, I saw you in 98, in the Palacio de los Deportes, you are my favorite Singer, I Love your Music! I Remember when I was living in highland Park Illinois, and I saw you in the Miramar Restaurant in Highwood and you gave me your Autograph on my Cd Adore. Greetings from Mexico City!!!
I must've played the first two LPs several hundred times in the early 90's. Great stuff. Definitely influenced my musical direction as a drummer.
I love the pumpkins so much, always have!! The first time I heard them I was supposed to be asleep but I was listening to my Walkman in my bedroom and I heard "Bullet With Butterfly Wings" and I was HOOKED forever!!!! 🎃🎃
That's the song that got me.. played on JJJ in Australia and I was like, "who tf is this band ?!", even though my older brother had Siamese Dream. 90's were so good..
@@matt79hz yessss !! They really were 😭😭😭 I was so happy when I finally recorded it off the radio on to my tape!!! I must have listened to it thousands of times!!!!! I got the CD later on but I needed to have it asap!!! 🎃💖
@@matt79hz Can't believe I missed the 90's ;(
@@thytoe awww well luckily you can listen to all the wonderful music now from that time whenever you want !! But growing up during that time was truly amazing ... kids these days have no idea what they are missing out on... by having everything at their fingertips. Its so different now!
@@TaraBrownBeautyandBody Yep I'm glad that I can at least listen to the music. I'd gladly give up our technology to grow up in the nineties. Consider yourself lucky! life sucks growing up these days.
Gish is THE perfect album. No amount of tweaking could make it better. It would only lessen what is already is.
William Patrick Corgan Jr. Thank you for all the work you have done! I have made many wonderful memories listening to your music. I kissed my first girl listening to 1979! Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness are my all time favorite albums!
i remembered the first time i was introduced to smashing pumpkins, it was back when i was a little kid playing guitar hero world tour on the wii. I played Today so many times, to me it was a beautiful song and i couldn't stop listening to this day
Ahhh I love Gish I unfortunately didn’t experience the early 90s seeing as I am only 23 but I nonetheless bought the physical album several years ago. It’s one of the few cds I can play without skipping a track!
You have great taste.
Hardcore fan here. First saw the Pumpkins at Lollapalooza '94 in Toronto. By then I had already listened to Siamese Dream and Gish on cassette to death.
I thoroughly enjoyed this.
I really hope Billy does a deep dive for Siamese Dream really soon. I listened to the entire Deep Dive for Gish on Insta a few hours ago and it was so fascinating to listen to.
The thing is, I think diving into songs like Disarm, Soma, and Today for a deep dive for Siamese Dream are going to be difficult for Billy to talk about. Those are some serious songs that hit close to home for Him. But I think He knows it's necessary to do so.
Thank you so much for this. I was so happy to discover this from YT's recommendations algorithm. Such a lovely surprise.
I deeply love every single thing Billy put out in the 90s , every song has a completely different vibe and you could argue that the Smashing Pumpkins as a musical universe is more or less complete and contains every genre you could want.
But for me the real killers are the lesser known b-sides , especially Glynis - I think that song encompasses the genius that is Corgan and the entire smashing pumpkins sound in general .
Billy is probably the only artist ever whose b-sides are usually on par or better than any of the singles.
Can’t express how fundamental SP were to my youth, thanks for that Billy.
Love Gish so much
I've been a huge Pumpkins fan for about 25 years. It's impossible for me to explain the importance of their music in my life. I can only say thank you Smashing Pumpkins. Love from Perú 🇵🇪
A former Chicago resident, during the “hey day,” huge fan (...still am...), many shows seen, etc.-I saw you last in OKC a couple of summers ago, amazing! More videos like these-! Very interesting! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
(And I’d read the book, Billy. 😏)
What book is he referring to?
Suffer and Siva are the best songs on Gish. IMO.And Snail. Ohhhhhhh and...Crush!! And....
I Love The Smashing Pumpkins! SP🖤
his voice is so calming-
Gish is amazing !!!!
thank you for doing this Bill! This is a classic album.
This shows that what makes a band is the people, not the instruments.
Always. 👌🏼
This is amazing. Incredible that in the early days they had such a dearth of songs- boy did the floodgates ever open over the next few years...
5:17 and this is why Gish is their best album
loved everything bout this, keen for more
Their material prior to Gish is fantastic too. Jennifer Ever is simply lovely.
I’m not familiar with that one. I will check it out. Could you suggest any other pre-Gish songs?
U guys and Jane's addiction on one tape... It was AWESOME! ☺
Smashing Pumpkins...📻.
One of my all-time fave bands. "Oceania" album was the smashingest (for me). "Machina" so awesomely listenable to too.
Thank you Billy and musical friends for loads of great tunes and memories through the years.
🎼🎸🥁🎶.
Much 💙! Keep rockin' it!
I rediscovered them with 'Oceania' - fantastic album and very underrated! Cheers from T.O :)
I was so fascinate by machina one summer of my teenage so huge band , i discover them with the single 1979
I’ll always remember buying machina on vigin megastore in paris champs Elysée , after listening it there
I built a sound system over the years in which to listen to Pumpkins and other bands i love. Its almost a church. I just jammed out the whole Gish cd. Cheers everybody!
I always listen to Snail and Crush, they're my two favorites at the moment, they're so uplifting and beautifully composed
This is awesome. One of my favorite bands and albums. Love the guitar tone. The drums are killer. Bass is awesome. Fucking great record.
Lot of Context there...Love the Pumpkins.
Smashing Pumpkins your my absolute favorites keep rocking billy!
Im from europe and the smashing pumkins was the soundrack of my teenage thank you so much , part of my soul forever
Thanks for sharing. I'm a HUGE fan and collector of the band and can't wait to hear you discuss the other albums.
I saw the pumpkins on lollapalooza in 94 and loved hearing Gish and Siamese Dream! Both records are pure HEAVEN! Billy, James, Darcy, and Jimmy doesn’t get better than that!
Blue and Bye June..favs
quite a way to start an album, still one of my favorites. the jungle drums, funky bass and rough guitar sound still hits me the same way today. for a long time as a teenager i would wake up and crank this song to start my day.
First heard "i am one". Since then i am a dedicated pumpkins fan. Greetings from Greece.
Please more of this
Love you Billy... Live long... Thank you
Yeahhh
Long time Pumpkins fan here! I love all your music so much. All your albums are so unique and Melancholy and the Infinite Sadness is my all time favorite! I hope to see more videos like this with you speaking to us and sharing your memories and history of more songs that you wrote! ❤️
Mellon Collie and the infinite Sadness ❤️ the best Album! 🖤
I picked up Gish when it came out because I was a huge Jane's Addiction fan and the record store owner told me to check out Gish. He said if you like Jane's you'll love this. I did and still do to this day. It's cool to hear that Stephen Perkins did influence you. The drum sounds and that "I am one" groove definitely remind me of Jane's.
Hell yeah!
Wow !
It's really amazing to hear Billy talk about those events - the amount of details is amazing, he's clearly touched - love this!
Amazing Band. The 1st two albums are hypnotic... Such a talented group of musicians, great songwriter!!
Still in my top 3 albums of all time. Open salvo of I Am One, that drum riff never gets old. Magic
It is always nice to reminisce some of your greatest memories, of which he did with an emotional pause. I am a big fan of Smashing Pumpkins and of course a big fan of Billy Corgan. It is sad how time just flies by and the fact that rock bands or bands in general can never last very long because of the creative artistic differences between band members and the different personalities clashing.
I think sometimes with rock bands, the fans and critics don't allow them to grow and change. Billy has done it successfully a few times. But it's been tough. Adore is so well looked at now but at the time the fans were so unforgiving. It's a shame.
Your music is truly unique and phenomenal ❣️
Gish and the year that I discovered the album are very very special in my heart. THANK YOU for all of your work, always and forever! 💖💖💖
Hi Billy, thanks for this! Cheers!
Thanks for this and for all the music.
Thank you so much for doing this, Billy & please keep doing more of these deep dives!
Great video. Thanks for recording for us! I loooove candid stories behind the music 💞💞
Saw you guys at Pinks Garage, HI - 1992. Went out and Bought the Album. Best material I believe you guys ever made. Wasn't crazy about anything after, couple songs maybe. BUT, Still listen to "Gish" all the time..
Best band EVER!!!...creativity just reeks through you....strange decision...yeah well the fact is you ARE strange in the best kind of way...best wishes...i do hope life has allowances for “you” to share all that talent you possess...its a beautiful thing!!
Never been much of a fan, but being a teenager in the 90's they were one of the biggest bands around. Their music was inescapable, especially Siamese dream and Mellon collie. They had a four year period where they were as big as anyone.
fantastic. thank you so much for sharing !
Thank you.
As a Pumpkins fan one of my dreams has always been to sit down with Billy and listen to every SP record while having a nice glass of wine with him and talk about the songs, the stories, the sounds, etc. Watching this video with a glass of wine it's pretty close...😁🍷
I agree! 'Gish' sonically blew my mind. Not a bad song on the release- all songs were so cohesive. Still stands out and takes me back
A beautiful video ! Thank you WPC
Billy, this is amazing! Thank you.
Love this album. It was great to hear Rhinoceros and Siva at their 2018 show. Phenomenal concert.
Thankyou so much Billy for taking us into this amazing debut album, I can't wait for the other songs to be discussed. Peace.
Late 1990. Months before I was born. That whole album is amazing. Rhinoceros is in my top 5 all time favorite songs. You're dynamite!
Thank you for this. Gish, Siamese, Pisces, and Mellon Collie are my favorites.
Really can’t wait for Siamese Dream!!! 😃
I follow every record he's done....because of the beauty of Gish.
I LOVE THE FUKING SMASHING PUMPKINS !!! BILLY YOU ROCK I LOVE YOU FOR
ALL THE FUKING DOPE MUSIC YOU BROUGHT ME AS A YOUNG YOUTH
Seeing them for Gish was one of the best shows i have ever seen.
Itz a masterpiece! Saw the pumpkins on this tour. Siva blew my mind! Love it.
Something I've always wondered...how did SP go from being a sort-of Cure like sound to Gish? Not sure I've ever seen that discussed. The transformation was pretty incredible, in my opinion.
Love this set up and style. Can’t wait for more. Thanks for taking the time to do this.
Such an amazing album. I remember first hearing the album in my teens, it still is as fresh today as it was back then. In my top albums list
This is really awesome
Saw you play at the Shoreline last summer, I think it was the last show of the tour, first time seeing the Pumpkins. Great show!!!
