- Based on a true story, this beloved made for television film starring Jimmy McNichol (Kristy's brother) and Joy LeDuc from 1979 was very similar in story to "Ice Castles" starring Robby Benson. Two teens become romantically involved as they train for a skating championship. Shirley Knight and Tony Lo Bianco and oddly enough Jennifer Warren (of "Ice Castles") costar. A tearjerker in every sense of the word, this highly sought after film features terrific skating and a really nice love story. i hope you enjoy this tribute to the film.
I was 15 when this movie came out. I remember crying like a baby. This was one of my favorites. Great memories.
Well it was 40 + years ago I saw this movie on a Sunday evening in darkest northern England. I cried and cried and it lived with me for years . Then the internet and dvds came along and behold! I am 19 again , watching the dvd and reliving this lovely movie. So sad, but so uplifting too.
It stayed with me too 😢
Exactly how I felt. Saw it the first time it aired on tv and never ever forgot it either. Also cried and cried at the end but still absolutely loved the movie. I also agree with you on the other point you made. Very sad and tragic story but yet so beautiful at the same time.
The goodbye scene at the airport is absolutely heart breaking! It’s like they both are sensing something bad is going to happen!
Watch this when I was 13 years old love this movie had a Big crush on Jimmy McNichols
A really great movie!! I really enjoyed everything both Kristy & Jimmy McNichol did. But then back then I had a crazy crush on Jimmy McNichol. Big thanks ❤ for letting me see young Jimmy again! I really adored him back in the late70’s.
I saw this movie and cried so hard. They were so cute together. Shirley Knight was so pretty.
This just proves that Jimmy McNichol was the greatest actor in the history of cinema.
I remember watching this. The whole thing was go smoothly till the ending. OMG! I was in total shock. I couldn’t believe it. It was like Bambi for the teen set. This was before spoilers. To this day it’s still depressing to me.
I remember watching this when I was 10 years old. I loved their sweet love story-and how they blossomed together-and was so upset at the ending. I didn’t see it coming.
Myself, my sister and good friend were extra's in this movie and I have some great memories. We got to hang out with Jimmy & Joy for about a week between Denver and Boulder. I was at the DU ice rink, the rink in Boulder and in the airport scenes. I found the DVD on Amazon about a year ago and was thrilled to watch it again. I hadn't seen it since it aired in 1979 on CBS.
I remember watching this on the night it came on T.V. I was 12 yrs old,and I can remember just I bawling my eyes out at the unexpected ending.I also remember my dad started watching it with me ,and when Jimmy's (character) was accidentally killed he went oh,No! and for my dad to say that trust me this movie really had some magic to it,and was very well written and acted it was not just another teenie movie/chick flick..I have looked for it in the past but I have never been able to find a copy on DVD nor have I been able to find it on RUclips..
I think I was about 8 when this came out and I have searched several times before trying to figure out the name of the movie and finally found the movie again. I seem to remember a part where he cuts her leg with his skate .
FYI: I BROUGHT IF OFF OF AMAZON IN DVD FORM ☺️☺️
Movie of The Week! Miss those simple times.
Saw this movie as a little girl and absolutely loved it, and fell so hard for Jimmy McNichol. Was one of my favoirites, but boy did I cry at the end!
The 1970s were filled with these heartbreaking love stories that just made you cry your eyes out at the end. I guess we have Love Story to thank/blame for that.
I just turned 13 yrs old when this movie premiered and I remember we had some kind of school dance party I was suppose to attend but I loved jimmy so much I wanted to watch the movie first (my school was literally on the same block as my house so I would only miss part of the party/dance- it was a stag dance anyway), well I couldn't control my sadness/crying so I told my mom I didn't want to go b/c I was so upset at the ending of the movie. I decided to skip the party at my school (they always had them at least 4 or 5 times a year) I couldn't even sleep - this movie touched my heart so much and jimmy was so adorable. I have Kristy/Jimmy album I use to sing along to all the time b/c I was a fan of Kristy as well but I ADORED Jimmy; I thought he/Joy Deluc had such great chemistry in this movie. It wasn't Ice Castles, but for a made for tv movie it sure was beautifully made. Such innocent days and a night I will never forget b/c this movie stayed w/me for along time - I remember everything about that movie and that night.
This movie sure touched you
where i see this movie complete ???
I REMEMBER THIS TV MOVIE SO GOOD I had a crush on Jimmy Mcnichol he was so adorable I had a friend across the street who looked just like his his name was James
Am here in tears and it the first time seeing this movie. She skater for him in the end💖
My ice skating coach, Rick Turley, was Jimmy McNichols skating double, and the male coach wore Ricks coat in the film to look more like a coach. The summer this was filmed I had to take lessons from a different coach while he was gone...I remember finally seeing the movie and bawling my eyes out....wow, memories...
That was a skating double ? I thought " he's really graceful, for a guy, and very talented!"did Jimmy skate well like that?
This made me cry again. I had forgotten about this until you posted it, thank you. So many years have ...passed, so many memories... Thank you
This was one of my favorite movies when I was a teenager! So sad but inspiring none the less.
I have loved this movie for over 30 years!!! I would love to see the whole movie - thanks to anyone who shares it with us.
OMG I remember this, I cried so much .. thank you for the trip down memory lane.
I remember the devastation I felt as a young girl watching this movie! I cried and cried. And it stayed with me for years. One of my absolute favorite movies as a very young girl.
I have been looking for this movie for years...thank you for posting it! I loved it as a kid and had a huge crush on Jimmy McNichol.
What a cool find. That ice rink at the beginning of the video is where I spent thousands of hours of my youth right up through college hockey. Great memories.
i love ice castles too. and this one is greattest.
Thank you for the good memories ❤️
I loved it. I wish you included the part just before she started her skate at the end, where she says "routine"
I do not remember many movies from the childhood but this is one that I remember. As others have said, I was a teenager when this movie came out and still love it today. I'm so glad to see it here. I love the message of this movie that even though Jimmy's character dies in the end, he came in to her life and gave her something that she needed which was obviously his purpose.
One of the most bittersweet things about this film is seeing how folks could still accompany their loved ones, all the way to the gate! That & so many things changed after 9/11...
I have this on DVD what a treasure this movie is!!!!
Yep, I had my first ugly cry at age 13 after watching this movie.
Beautiful
I remember this movie when I was young,
became one of my favorites. I really like the part everytime they start to skate and he says "Pretty " to her but in the end when she's just left alone competing by herself, she say the same word, it really makes me cry at that moment.
The word Peter would always say to Carrie before a performance was “routine," and then at the end when she has to skate alone after his death, she says “routine" to herself before she begins her performance.
Would love to see this movie again. I remember seeing it on tv as a teen and tying mr eyes out at the end. Thanks for posting this tribute
I loved this movie so much thank you for posting this!!!❤❤❤
Ha ha .............I remember this movie ! I was so in love with Jimmy back in the day ! :)
Joy LeDuc was so cute! Why have we seen so little of her since?
I cannot believe the whole THING is not posted here....I wish it were! Thanks!
We watched this movie at a sleepover when I was 15, and we fell in love with it. 40 some years later, I don't get why! LOL
growing up I loved this film
Brings back so many memories. Thank you for posting.
I finished leveling this movie, my friend bought a copy in English and gave me a copy and will publish for all lowering this beautiful classic!
I'm posting this in tears. I always loved this movie and cried every time I watched it. Thank you for uploading this video.
I want to find this movie on DVD or even video. I have Ice Castles already.
I remember watching this movie with my mother when it came out when the one point come in the movie at the end I remember crying for 15 or 20 minutes can't stay because it's been many many many years since I have seen this movie but I remember telling my mom that can't happen because there's 20 minutes left in the movies and she laughed at me so hard it was an awesome movie I would watch it again tomorrow I truly wish they would make a remake of this movie.!!
I loved this movie!!
a beautiful movie , and very sad . I remember the first time I saw it , the scene where the father asks to see his son , after he's been killed in a plane crash, is so incredibly sad.
does he die at the end?
@@Emptiness512 Yes, Peter died in the plane crash, and Carrie, after first not wanting to go on skating without him, decided to continue as a singles skater to honor Peter.
Esse filme fez parte da minha infância... Passava na Sessão da Tarde... Triste e lindo...
I thought I saw the movie available to buy on amazon! I saw it when It was first on tv and cried and cried! I thought it was done well. . . much better than cutting edge or other movies that attempted to have a love story between a hockey player and figure skater. I think this was the ABC movie special and it is more family friendly than some others!
i remeber that this movie is very sadd and very happy.but i think it has a good remember.=)
I fell so in love with joy le duc when i was a teenager it still hurts my heart to this day,her eyes are so expressive and her lips so full,i wanted to kiss her so much,I've never felt this way about anyone in my life(even my ex wife)thanks for the post it brought back some real emotions in me that i cried for my youth and her, soft i know

I just realized that her mom is the actress that played Brooke Shields weird mother in Endless Love, and his dad is the actor that played the rapist with the mask on Little House on the prairie..
@@judyholiday653 Yesss i immediately recognized the guy from that episode Little House on the prairie! That episode was called "Sylvia" and it was two parts. One of me and mom's all time favorite episodes...so bittersweet...poor Albert....
He was soooo cute.
Why don't you upload the full movie?
One of my favorite movies as a kid, if not the favorite; so glad to have seen your post, and was really happy to be able to find it on DVD. Still one of my favorites, even 35 years or so down the road. In answer to a couple of questions, the only tie to the true story is told by her coach of being on the US Figure Skating team but not being on the flight that crashed on the way to the Olympics during the 60's.
That flight that crashed in 1961 that killed the entire US figure skating team wasn't on its way to the Olympics, it was on its way to the World Figure Skating Championships in Prague, Czechoslovakia.
yes thank you for uploading. loved this movie. I forgot about the tragic ending. jimmy mcnichol was in my top 5 of teen "idols". he has an early brad pitt quality about him. not the same acting range but in his disposition, frame, tone & cute factor.
Eu amo esse filme!
Uma historia de amor e campeões

Oh my God. This is based on a true story? How did you find this out? Do you know any more about the story this is based on?
Should show the whole show.
Isn't this like "The Cutting Edge?"
ceedkay It is from an earlier time, and it's more sad than funny. But it does feature pairs skating with a hockey player.
Maybe like The cutting Edge but I think the idea was taken from Ice Castles. Same year.

@@Emptiness512
:p
Who was it based on? because he dies?
The part where Peter dies in a plane crash is loosely based on the 1961 plane crash in Brussels, Belgium, that killed the entire US figure skating team. The rest of the movie is based on a composite of different skaters that the writer had met, some of whom were romantically involved with their skating partners. The writer himself was a former hockey player, so he probably based Peter Scoggin partially on himself.
