"The Victory" ~ A 10 Minute Tribute The 1981 Film ~ Starring Vince Van Patten & Cloris Leachman

- This rarely seen Canadian film from 1981 actually had several titles "The Victory" and "This Time Forever" when released on Vhs in the early 90's. In theatres it was known as "Yesterday", "Gabrielle", and the totally misleading title "Scoring". No matter what the film is called, it manages to be a wonderfully romantic film set in Canada during the late 60's. A young med student Matt Kramer (Vincent Van Patten) , falls for a french girl Gabrielle (Claire Pimpare) and the two begin a romantic relationship. After a prank at school causes Matthew to get expelled, he can either return home to the United States and to his mother (Cloris Leachman), and most likely face get drafted and sent to Vietnam(as his granfather played by Eddie Albert would like him to do), or stay in Canada and be with his true love. He decides to go just before Gabrielle can tell him she is carrying his child. What happens next can only happen in the movies. This terrific love story is so rare, that it has never been released on DVD and NEVER turns up on cable anymore. It has not been on HBO since the mid 80's. Saw this movie when I was 10...lol...never forgot it...now I am 42 its good to see it again!!

I remember watching this movie on HBO when it first came out. I instantly fell in love with the movie, the main song and a big crush on Vincent Van Patten! I have never forgoten this movie and have looked for it many times over the years. It is so nice after all this time to finally hear the main song I have sung in my head so many times and to watch and feel the emotion as she sees him alive after all those years. One of many reasons I am a true romantic today. Thanks for posting this!!

Like Laurie Macc I, too, remember watching this movie on HBO in 1982. In fact, I watched it SEVERAL times! Just an incurable romantic, I guess. I found a VHS copy of it on Amazon under the titles, "The Victory" and "The Time Forever"! YES!!!

I remember watching this film in the summer of '82 on HBO. It was called "This Time Forever". I simply fell in love with it and saw it three times the month it was shown. Sadly, it is very seldom ever shown now. Does anyone know if it's been released on dvd? I would love to see it again.
I saw the movie at around that same time. I watched it every time it came on HBO and cried like a baby every single time. I don't know if it's on DVD.

Ich liebe diesen Film, ich suche ihn schon jahrzehntelang - AUF DEUTSCH. Habe mir den tollen Film (in Deutsch) ca. 1986 immerwieder von einer Videothek ausgeliehen und dann irgendwann als es zu den DVDs kam, niewieder gesehn, weiss nicht mehr, wo ich noch suchen soll / kann ......
