Attention! If you download the instructions on my www.letsgosew.com website you'll find an error for the size listed for PIECE #5 - the CORRECT size should be 2 1/2" X 6 1/2." So sorry for any confusion.

Can you use three thread seam.

Hi Mary! For this project that would be okay, as long as the needle is in the left position. However, the four-thread really is a better choice. I like to use a four thread stitch whenever sewing woven fabrics as it makes the seam more secure. Since this project calls for fusible fleece, three-thread seams should be fine on the placemat. If you're using three threads for the patchwork, you may want to sew the last seam joining the lining to the pieced top on your sewing machine. Hope this helps!

How did you close the opening after you turned it inside out?

HI Ellen! You can close the opening with small hand stitch or do as I did, I topstitched close to the edge all around the placemat. This made a nice finish at the same time the opening was closed up.

Would this work with crazy quilting?

Hi Dale! Your question is a good one. You certainly could use the serger to piece together a crazy patch block. I would keep the shapes simple and probably stitch sections together, and then piece the sections together to form a crazy quilt block. There is another way which would involve serge finishing the edges then put them together like puzzle pieces. Hard to explain in words but you're given me the idea for a future project post so stay tuned :-)

I really enjoyed this video thank you!! However I find it difficult to hear what is being said when you talk at the same time as the machine is running ... 🤔

I understand JoolsofSewing, the serger does make more noise than a regular machine and the microphone picks up sound so well that it makes it noisier that usual.

Yes, I agree ... it is definitely more noisy with a serger .... still an excellent video though, thank you again!
