My 1973 MK II has this problem. I have the clamp kit. Nothing else though. Todd Cannon said that I should look at these. Both my Commandos are suffering from disuse. The MK III has been mine since around '77. The MK II has been in my family since around '79 It came from George Gjonovitch at HPI, back in the day when my brother bought it. Its still fairly peppy for a Norton.
Hi Paul. Great to hear from you. I know Todd well. Are you in the Portland area? You would be most welcome at our club meetings or events. We meet on the first Saturday of the month at the Horse Brass pub on SE Belmont at 11am. Cheers! Mike
@@TheMightyGarage The bikes are in Tillamook. The MKII has mags and a rear disc retrofit, since before it was in my family. I have a nice wheelset, but no brake drum/sprocket assembly. I'm wanting to put that back to stock hub. They both need isolastics from sitting. I just don't have much time for them any more. Both have dual 34 Mikunis. The MK III actually has 32s on it now, with the 34s in a box.
When u installed it does the brake hub sits flush with the wheel hub ? I have a 72 I replaced the rubber cushions and I have a 1/8 gap between the brake hub and the wheel but not sure if should be like that? with all tight still both parts have a gap between them
I saw in one of your videos, which are very informative, you had a k&n oil filter. I was wondering what the part number is . I am going to put one on my 70 commando S . It's my retirement project to put it back together to ride instead of the heavy Harley Davidson
Hi Lance, thanks for your note. Good luck with your project. That will be a lot of fun! There are a lot of oil filters that will fit a Commando. I'm including a link to the Access Norton forum where the guys list a bunch of filters that will fit. Plus other comments from other guys about the filters that they use. I. would probably avoid the filters that have a built in nut on the end as I've read that the nut can shear off. www.accessnorton.com/NortonCommando/oil-filter-2011.8739/
James, I don't know what happened to your comment. I saw it pop up on my phone but couldn't find again. Yes, the scratches are a bit scary! I didn't know that they were so bad. I think the close up view and the LED lights highlight them more but yes I will try to clean these up. I do know that the kick tarter was in bad shape when I go the bike, so there may be only so much I can do without buying a new one.
That seems to be a common problem The solution is to use an MK3 kick starter lever but they are expensive. Sorry, I assumed you were talking about scratches on the silencer.
Hi, oh you might be correct.. I thought James meant the kickstarter and looked again at the video and saw those on the silencer. There are scratches on a lot of parts ;) I think the scratches on the silencer will hopefully polish out! Cheers.
I have been working in the motorcycle industry for the last 15 years

@@TheMightyGarage the trick is to follow directions. 1/2 to 3/4 of a turn after contact .
Thank you for the information
Thank you Lance
