Amnesia Rebirth: A Guided Tour (Review)

Amnesia: Rebirth is a flawed but interesting game that comes achingly close to greatness; where possible I've compared Rebirth to its predecessor, but a lot of Rebirth is extremely original and I think parts of it will end up being influential. The way that pregnancy is actually tied into the game shows Frictional's understanding of how to tell a story in a video game.
If you see ads on the video, Muserk Rights Management claimed the song 'Tears Of', used at the end. Video game music tends to escape from predatory copyright owners, but I was unlucky in this instance. I do not monetise my videos, so I encourage you to use an ad blocker.

I definitely did! I think in general the "guided tour" approach worked better for Rain World, since the world itself is the star, but I think you did a good job and I learned a lot about both amnesia games.

a lot of videos like this dont fully explain the game enough. im never going to play amnesia, they're just not my thing, but seeing a comprehensive "guided tour" is a lovely way to give that experience to others. and in the case of your hotline miami and rain world videos, two games i love, your focus and insight on the games help me appreciate more what i already love. really excited to see whatever you do next!
I actually like the illustrated flashbacks, I see what they were going for. Tasi is an artist, so it makes sense (to me at least) that she would contextualize flashbacks as drawings in her own head, even if the experiment made the pacing a bit rocky.
I really liked the arms getting messed up. It fails afterwards when you know it, yeah, but for the entire game I was increasingly convinced I essentially had only so many lives before I would be irreversibly ghoul'd, and possibly even was getting screwed out of encounters by Tasi going into a ghoul rage in plot was close to times I died. All coincidence but nice.
I agree so much it was really close but missed. the body horror and oh I actually couldn't fit here or do that because pregnant worked. Traveling... mostly worked, it was cool and nice to see an alien world with a little true alien nature to it, albiet overhumanized. The game did all these nice little things but kinda fucked up on the end resolutions and poisoned them.
Also man I wish it had some enemy varriety.

God damn it, they did the same thing in SOMA, where the characters keep telling you that using the healing stations is bad and you shouldn't be doing it, but it doesn't actually matter at all.

I like how it looks and how the inventory and puzzles are back.
It's not as scary, but still tense.
Hope the series won't die with it

Bunker did quite well. Hope you aren't as annoyed at it as you are at Rebirth.
It is far more focused on one "Nemesis" monster, but is quite nicely open ended. Hope that Frictional someday manage to mary the Amnesia and Soma style of fear- the mix of both literal and psychological terror

"Tears of" from Silent Hill. It plays during the ending
I think this game would have been greatly improved by having 100% of the alien stuff happen at the end. Let the horror of her trip through the desert fully develop and be realized, and then escalate into a whole new thing, instead of cutting them together.

What a bad take. Short reviews can still be informative and entertaining, and longer reviews can still be meandering and boring. Length alone is not a metric of quality.

the only reason i didnt finish rebirth was because one of the sanity effects was a big face popping up onscreen with a loud noise. ruined the whole thing for me.
Can you make one about Hollow knight?

I don't like Rebirth. It not scared me, stealth sections of the game are boring and annoying, flashbacks are worse than in the first, original game (that scared me btw). I didn't realised that I have the choice to kill all in the end, because I was bored to death so I went the easiest way and gave the child to the goddess
This is 2 years late, but regardless; did you watch MauLer's Amnesia: TDD vs SOMA Dissection? If not, please check it out. It's a 12-part behemoth of a video essay (if you can still call it that) and, in my opinion, it's also extremely underrated; a brilliant loveletter to both games.
Managing light sources? That'll be a pass.
If I wanted to buy something and have it dictated to me on what terms I could enjoy it I'd buy Apple.

I honestly think the game is a lot worse than you gave it credit for. The story is really bad and so much of the game is poisoned by it. It's honestly terrible :'D
