    No horse is allowed to overrun its handler, it has to go beside him. What we see here is the consequence of unsufficient training. Fortunately, the guy is not injured.

    Waaaaah, that job is more dangerous than I realised. In the end, I think his pride was hurt more than his body but it could have been very different.
    Questions: Where do they recruit the runners? What do they do the rest of the time? These events are few and far between so running with Friesians must be a part time activity. Are they students, farmers' sons, office workers ....?

    • @FriesianHorses
      @FriesianHorses  5 лет назад +5

      Most of these runners work at stables. Others have other jobs.
      That running is part of the job when they work at a stable.

    I still don’t understand how this is the norm for showing horses. Seems as though a long lead with the horse being able to walk trot canter gallop even without being constrained would show to their best. Can anyone explain this? I’d appreciate hearing from judges, runners or owners why. Thanks.

    • @DianeLee999
      @DianeLee999 5 лет назад +3

      1942rita Excellent questions! They are shown “in hand” until 13yrs, then can be shown on the long reins w/harness. Why? Tradition is my best guess. The stand, walk, and trot are all the gaits they are judging.

      Who Cares I am a bit surprised when anyone answers with snark. Don’t think negative responses are warranted.
      I was an Eventer, owned thoroughbreds, unwillingly did dressage, rode qtr horses as a kid. Never owned/rode a Friesian so my intro to them has mostly been on line. My love of horses brings me to RUclips; negative responses sends me off to other sites. I say thank you to the positive responders.

    The perils and only real downside to these beautiful horses. My daughter is only a tiny thing 5ft 4in and about 6st wet through so long since mastered the art of knowing when to let go - more so when you're on the ground. One guy who for some reason fancied himself and wanted to show how it's done insisted on leading the horse we knew was a sod for legging it when being turned out in a new place first time and wouldn't be told.
    I was already down in the bottom field but daughter said he more or less grabbed the lead rope from her all “There there little lady I'll show you how it's done step aside you watch and learn”
    Next minute I heard “MUM - WATCH YOUR BACK WE HAVE INCOMING!!” and sure as shit the same guy was being dragged behind like a John Wayne stunt double. It's a tough one to call when you're outside of a secure arena or fenced field but it's always safer to let go cos you won't win a fight with one of these in a hurry that's for sure.
    He-Man was OK though thankfully. Muddy and red-faced but OK.

      Perhaps those stallions were too young? That's only my guess. I read this:
      "Stallions are graded from 2 ½ years of age for STER status, provided they have reached a minimum height of 158cm, although they remain in the Foalbook (Veulenboek vb). The best, young stallions are referred to the Central Keuring in the Netherlands. A handful of stallions are selected for a ridden and driven performance test and only those scoring highly enough will be approved for breeding and entered in the main Studbook (Stamboek, Stb)."

  • @virginiamoss7045

    This is the first time I've seen this happen and I'm surprised it doesn't happen all the time. Those guys have to run full speed while controlling the horse and running on the outside rather than on the inside. I guess if they ran on the inside their bodies would block the full view of the horse. Still, it does seem that all the horses should have been trained to "lead" on a long lead, never going beyond the leader's body. This European/English way of leading by the chin is so unnecessary and problematic.

  • @wilmaknight9127
    @wilmaknight9127 5 лет назад +1

    I don't know how it doesn't happen more often tbh , I think it would be better to allow the horse to be free in the arena and watch it's beauty and gait that way . I for one would prefer that. Thankful the guy wasn't hurt .
    Rule no 1 never wrap the leadrope round your hand , the second guy done exactly that 😲😒

    Why do you guys show the same video over and over. Don’t you have anything new or are you just a waste of time channel?

    • @DianeLee999
      @DianeLee999 5 лет назад +8

      Christo Kriek Every ball game looks the same if you don’t care who’s playing, their standings, or who wins. These stallions go through stringent inspections. This is a very carefully regulated system to make sure the breed remains true to standard and healthy. The breed almost disappeared at one time. This process protects it by maintaining a studbook of approved stallions for breeding. Hope this helps your understanding. 🤔 PS. If you look, you’ll find other videos on this channel besides stallion inspections. Pleasure riding, dressage, foals at play, etc. if you read the detail text, they’ll be posting other things once a week.
