I was a sophomore in high school in Chicago and I remember the hype surrounding Ronnie Fields and it's a shame what happened and how quickly it fell apart for him. I'm glad he didn't let it drag him further into descent and was able to maintain himself.
Fantastic video and story. I covered Ronnie in the 1995 Nike Invitational in Las Vegas. He came here the same week Kobe Bryant starred in adidas' Big Time Tournament. I've told this story about Ronnie to so many people, and used the same lead as this video, in regards to Michael Jordan. Glad someone took the time to put this together.
I saw Ronnie play with Kevin in the 90's and Kevin threw an ollie oop pass and it was so high I thought there's no way Ronnies going to catch it and the whole crowd jumped up (And I didn't) and all I saw was his hands grabbing the ball and slamming it in. This man was THE most exciting and naturally talented player I have ever seen to come out of Chicago. He was as a sophomore in high school rated ahead of Kobe Bryant and more exciting to watch as well. This man was way too talented to not play in the NBA. I thought he was more talented than Kevin as well. America missed a real gem in this Chi-town Legend
I went to Gordon Tech in 90s Farragut destroyed everyone they were playing lol. Fields threw half court alley oops to KG. Besides basketball Farragut hsd KG and Fields do track and field lol high jump triple jump and such. It was bad for everyone else lol
I am glad they do these stories..hopefully some young man will see or read about Ronnie and make better choices. It’s sad but with a happy ending. Ronnie has become a good man! God Bless you brother
To hell with professional basketball, he became a great man who helped countless other people, and that's a helluva lot more important than being a great basketball player. Way to go Ronnie!
Oh Wow! I totally remember him like it was yesterday. I grew up Southside of Chicago and was in Highschool at this time. Super happy to see his career receive some coverage. There is a lot to learn from how things turned out. Great video.
I saw Ronnie Fields play at Farragut back in 96. He was the most anticipated HS draft pick even as Junior. I remember hearing about that car crash and a lot of ppl thinking that that was the end of B-ball for him. Hats off to Ronnie Fields. Very inspirational story.
yo if that's true... and it does sound extremely true... this man needs a humanitarian award or something symbolic... keys to the city? Sports Medicine/Hospital named after him...
What a class act just goes to show you that you can give up a life of fame and fortune and still touch the hearts and minds of young people with your character and your story. I admire people like this more than anyone else because they overcame adversity and still made an everlasting impact
Great video Bro!!!. You told the story about R. Fields just as I remember it. I'm a Chicago native and I attended the high school (Thornton Township 94-98) that beat KG and Ronnie Fields in the state tournament. Ronnie was a BAD dude back then, No one could stop him. That was sad day to hear that he was involved in a car accident and suffered those injuries. After that I honestly thought he would never play bball again.
I was at that Illinois Christmas tournament in Peoria IL where Ronnie Fields dunked over that player. It was a local Peoria highschool product 6'5" Sergio McClain. It was a moment where you wanted to hit the remote rewind button to see if you saw what you thought you saw. Thing about it is Ronnie scored over 40 pts. But in the first half showcased passing and long range jumpers, reserving the highlight reel for the 2nd half. He was amazing.
*Ronnie Fields* was the Most Insanely Gifted, Exciting and Dominant (High School) Player I've ever seen in Person (1995) River City Shootout (Peoria, IL) against A.J. Guyton and Central! What he could do (at his height) was UNBELIEVABLE (but he also was lightning quick) and an Unstoppable Force! CaineLovesCali this was OUTSTANDING
Joe Cain @2:32 That's the highschool I graduated from ...They now hold two different schools Collins Warriors (Used to be Collins Cobras) and North Lawndale College Prep is where I graduated...
I have a book coming out prayerfully 2019 titled, "Your Rope Is Longer Than You Think!" My life story is very similar. Ronnie great job in not only owning up to your choices, not giving up on yourself, for rebuilding your life and for giving back to your community!! God Bless
The Thornton team that beat them was actually led by Tai Streets (nfl) which also had Antwan Randle El (nfl) Napolean Harris (nfl) and Melvin Ely (nba)
Lots of Great Highschool and College players never make it to the LEAGUE but, that is not what defines a man it’s how he lands and gets back up and keeps it moving!!!! Not giving up and pressing on!!!!
I saw Garnett and Fields play against my high school on our home court. Fields and Garnett put on a show. Ronnie Fields' basketball IQ was extremely high. The same was true of Garnett. Ronnie Fields style of play was great to watch. He played like he was in the NBA.
I was at that game when he jumped over 6' 5'' Sergio McClain from Peoria Manual High School, and Sergio was standing straight up didn't bend down til after the dunk, that was the most amazing dunk I ever seen in my 50 + years on earth
I wish I could have been there! They showed the pic of that dunk in Slam magazine and I showed it to my wife and told her she had seen the guy getting dunked over and I could even tell her where the game was. Peoria Manual came down to Southern Illinois and we met the whole team. National high school champions 1997. Blew out Oak Hill Academy in St. Louis.
Sometimes in life, somethings aren't meant. But you deal with it and move on. I'm glad that brother face it and owned up to his mistakes and was honest with himself. Thats really all we can do.
Great video. Ronnie is a legend, and still doing big things. You don't have to play in the NBA to do it big. Literally, impacting just one life is big enough. Big ups to Ronnie and to Caine for this video. Keep up the good work.
He's a better man than a (great) basketball player. He's a shinning example of life after basketball. My chest sticks out with pride because of his example. Thanks for the video
Holy what the fuck 32 points 4 steal and 4 block at 6 3 if nothing went wrong he could have been a lottery pick jumping straight from high school to the league
Awesome to see how the situation turned out well... His attitude is so good. Great video telling his story! Especially enjoyed the parts where he THRASHED the rim
Very nice video. I liked the overall presentation. Very balanced, the bitter portion mixed with sweet portion. Every up and coming star should check this one out. Good job.
About time someone gave Ronnie Fields his props. I remember this vividly. Seems like the news(Ch.5) specifically had highlighys of him every day /5:00 ish time
Great video... Look into a Northern California player named Winters Paterson around the sametime as Ronnie Fields... Best player nobody knows about and scored 82 I'm a high school game... It would be a great story, oh and the school still holds the state record for points per game that season. Balboa high averaged 103 a game that year...
Can you do a video on Hook Mitchell? He was a short basketball player dunking over cars in high school in west Oakland California. He played basketball with Gary Payton & Jason Kidd
I remember going to the games back then. I grew up on the westside I knew a teacher at Farragut use to let me in the games. KG and Ronnie use to come to my hood and hop sometimes. They was exciting to watch.
Man oh man....Ronnie Fields And Kevin Garnett....Farragut Academy brothers for life...Both took high school basketball in Chicago to the next level....Melvin Ely And KG won NBA titles years later plus Antoine randle el won a Super Bowl....
Great video...thanks for posting. I had the opportunity to see them play a couple times. The only other duo that comes close is Dee Brown and Shannon Brown over at Proviso East. I still say Shannon is the best high school ball player I've ever seen. That gym at East is SO much fun to watch a game. Another one that comes to mind is Marcus Liberty over at King, that would make for a great video.
Mr. Grills , you are delusional to put Shannon Brown in the same breath with Ronnie Fields , absurd. Brown couldn't carry his shoes. And to put Dee and Shannon in comparison with Kevin and Ronnie is insanity. Great players in high school , not in the same class.
To those of you who suggested this story about Ronnie Fields I thank you. To CaineLovesCali, thank you for making the video and doing what I thought was such an outstanding job with it. I am so impressed by how well you did in making it that it made me impelled to subscribe which I did. I very much look forward to regularly watching the videos you put out.
Minus the legendary status he reminds me much of myself. Made mistakes, and had accidents happen but that didn't stop me from being a good human being.
I was a prep writer in the Chicago area for 26 years. Fields was hands down the best player I ever saw. What a shame he didn’t make it to the NBA bet he made something of his life and is giving back.
I remember Melvin Ely. Played center for Jerry Tarkanian at Fresno State and team USA in the Olympics. Great inside scorer with great moves under the rim.
Remember this kid. He was a beast Got injured in a car wreck and had some agents giving him money. If this guy had more guidance he’d have been a HOF in the NBA
Nice piece appreciate the work you put into this story if you never put it together i would have probably never heard about him pretty impressive athlete!
There was an excellent Ronnie Fields highlight reel on yt which is now gone. 😞 it used the homestretch for background music, and had bits and pieces of rare footage and interviews
Interesting video about a kid who’s NBA dream never came to be. I happy his life ended well. Too often you see kids like this have a great life playing a sport they love and have it all taken away then they’re life becomes tragic. You should do a piece on Shea Cotton as he was the number 1 ranked player in his class out of Mater Dei high but finished up at Crenshaw high I believe and never made it to the NBA but there was one guy who did that turned out to be the 2nd bless player in that class and it was Stephon Marberry.
Awesome uplifting story about how to overcome adversity and disappointment in life to lead a better future for yourself and your loved ones.He is an inspiration to everyone.
Good job. I'm from Baltimore and we had a player in the 70s that was similar. His name was Skip Wise. I don't know his whole story, but dude was a legend and didn't make it.
I cried when he said he grew to be a better person and father and that's more important then ball. That's real bro. Congrats to that brother.
Yeah, congratulations to Fields for being able to move on from sexually abusing a woman. He's truly a great man.
Mr.Dioneo shut up.
Nothing else needed. I agree 100 percent!!!
Joseph Hale no one asked you bitch
Mustafaa Cobb Agreed!!! .... and I had tears running down my cheeks

Facts! I’m at that game at :44! Proviso East tournament. Farragut whopped my school(Cvs) ass! Lmao
Anthony Barbary did he wear #23 cuz of Jordan?
You have to give him credit for not giving up on life
Finally, someone did a story on Ronnie.
Thank you sir
This guy could be an asset of any coaching team in a pro circuit. It's inspiring to know his story.
Exactly
Farragut played our HS team in the city semifinals back in 1995. Watching KG and Ronnie was like watching an NBA game back then
I am glad they do these stories..hopefully some young man will see or read about Ronnie and make better choices. It’s sad but with a happy ending. Ronnie has become a good man! God Bless you brother

I heard about Ronnie back in the day from a Slam Magazine..
Heard about him the same way in England
+LMKirkwood England is my city
FACTS
I think i still have my Slam Magazine and i lived in Russia then when i heard about him.
Music
Vince Carter said Ronnie was a better and more creative dunker...the counter clockwise 360 windmill Vince did in the dunk contest he got from Ronnie
Derek L. I was just thinking the same thing as soon as I seen him do it...I thought Vince Carter.
And Carter stole it from Dominique Wilkins who was the first and best one to do it.
yo if that's true... and it does sound extremely true... this man needs a humanitarian award or something symbolic... keys to the city? Sports Medicine/Hospital named after him...
Derek NYC it was a 360 windmill

I go to Farragut Career Academy and its honor attending this school❤️
FLOYD MAYWEATHER , I play for the soccer team, we were regional champions. Idk how i can prove it
Fabian Rosario ..soccer is gay
It's a good school I saw them in high school my ex b formerly known as wife school put them out of the playoffs
My ex girlfriend Gloria Epps went to Farragut. I also had a girlfriend from Thornton.
Great video Bro!!!. You told the story about R. Fields just as I remember it. #2 high school team in the nation 1997. But Rocky Hill said Thornridge's 1972 team could have beaten the Wildcats by 20.
@@nelsonmcatee3721 Rocky Hill was still coaching the boys team when i was in high school

this was OUTSTANDING
Seen him play his freshman year. Wow 😳
Never heard of this guy til now. I'm going to create this player on 2K now. Thanks.
Joe Cain that's like an op slasher
Joe Cain @2:32 That's the highschool I graduated from ...They now hold two different schools Collins Warriors (Used to be Collins Cobras) and North Lawndale College Prep is where I graduated...
I'm from Chicago I was a eighth-grader fascinated by the play of these two. Unfortunately he was a waste of talent
terry johnson not a waste he got into a accident he still made money from ball
triigga s , he made money from ball definitely. But I'm sure he'd rather have been in the NBA instead of the CBA or overseas.
I had wondered what happened to Fields. I saw he and Garnett play when their high school came to St. Louis. Good stuff!

Then Thornton had Tamon Holloway
NEWZZCAFE thank you
Tai streets caught 🏈 from the 🐐 at Michigan
Good story about not giving up. Good for Ronnie Fields for the good he is doing for his life and the kids he mentors. All the best Ronnie.

When i lived in Muncie, In we would see his highlights on the news
Been here since 16,280 and I commented on your video about my favorite player kd and you replied and now your one of my fav youtubers
Do Ben Wilson Who is also Chicago high school basketball legend that was murdered before he could go to college or the NBA
I'm personally not a huge fan of murder stories
+The Splash TV me neither
Painton Jeppe he did already
Painton Jeppe
30 for 30
It's called benji
Painton Jeppe Netflix had the Documentary on him it's called "BENJI" not sure if it's still there though
Smh so many brothers like him get forgotten
Great story, I was expecting a tragic end....but was relieved with a satisfying moral of the story. Thumbs way UP!
Thanks so much. Out in Oregon I'd never heard of him, but what a terrific person AND athlete. Wonderful story. Thanks again for telling it.
Another 🔥 video, Caine!
This nigga was COLD. I saw them play in hs together. Looked like Sprewell, played like Jordan
Who in the hell can give this video a thumbs down. They must know you and not like you. Screw them...
Nicely done.
Great video.

Thanks so much for story about Ronnie Fields. Keep doing these kinds of story as they are greatly appreciated.
I admire that he has made piece with the situation and has moved on very respectable
Me and my friend drove up to watch him play when I was high school my senior year. Man was a beast. Glad his life turned out positive.
Holy what the fuck 32 points 4 steal and 4 block at 6 3 if nothing went wrong he could have been a lottery pick jumping straight from high school to the league
THE ANDROID GAMER but not as popular n he was garmetts teamate
Damn. Heartbreaking AND uplifting all at the same time. Thanks for the story.
I'm from Rockford Illinois and watched him play in high School and for the Rockford Lightning- CBA team was still a Beast .. Kudos For PUSHING THRU
Nicely done, bro. I had no idea who Ronnie Fields was before your video, so I really enjoyed his story and the way you told it. Subscribed!

Fields was the 🐐 of chicago h.s. basketball in the 90s. Awesome video.
I like how he handled everything in the end.
Seems like a good guy.
That was great dude.. I went to Englewood during that school run with KG and Ronnie..Man! How time flies
He played in the Philippines way back 1999. He was phenomenal.

I went to that high school and Ronnie is still a big star Farragut Career Academy ever
Had the pleasure of watching Ronnie while he played for the Rockford Lightening in the CBA. He was phenomenal!
You should do a story on Desmond Allison. A good friend of mine who attended Tampa's Robinson High School and then on to Kentucky.
Just awesome,I was a huge fan, what could of been, God bless Ronnie Fields
Minus the legendary status he reminds me much of myself. Made mistakes, and had accidents happen but that didn't stop me from being a good human being.
Great video good job continue what you're doing
Ronnie was hard out there on dem folk'... 💪🏿
This guy played for Tanduay in the PBA. Great import like Lenny Cook of Purefoods.
I love it how he reads comments and the loves em
I was a prep writer in the Chicago area for 26 years. Fields was hands down the best player I ever saw. What a shame he didn’t make it to the NBA bet he made something of his life and is giving back.
49ers WR Tai Streets was on that Thornton team too
crazy but I still see him as a dope person for pushing through in the end and helping out with younger kids instead of being bitter and giving up
I was at at that Thornton game. I was in 8th grade. Tai Streets was on that team too. I’ll never forget that game.
I remember Melvin Ely. Played center for Jerry Tarkanian at Fresno State and team USA in the Olympics. Great inside scorer with great moves under the rim.

There was an excellent Ronnie Fields highlight reel on yt which is now gone. 😞 it used the homestretch for background music, and had bits and pieces of rare footage and interviews
Michael Wright too, shoutout to MW!
They were supposed to have another superstar, 6'6 sophomore LaKeith Henderson, but he dropped out of the program and was never heard from again.
So he still got to hoop. He still balled out. Good video. Thanks
