one of the best themes of all time
I remember when Luger debuted this iteration of the character. Say what you will, he looked like a star.
And a two time world champion
Lex Luger is possibly the most underrated superstar in all of professional wrestling. I think he made a lot of the other wrestlers very jealous. He had realistic promos, talked like a real athlete would. Who remembers the USS intrepid event when he flew in with a helicopter and slammed Yokozuna? Or when he beat Hollywood Hogan with the torture rack? He got a massive pop that night! All in all, Lex was a big time player
The Contrarian but he is underrated now in the minds of many “experts”. His WWF run was considered a failure and what I hear mostly from his peers in interviews gives me the impression that he doesn’t get the props that I feel he deserves
The WWF made a HUGE mistake by not putting Lex over Yoko in WM 10. I was there anf all the fans were pissed and disgusted. No matter WHAT Lex did the night before. It was a travesty
I agree. Ric Flair and Sting CONSTANTLY set the record straight when they talk about Lex in their shoot interviews. Luger was the first Professional wrestler to break into the business with an actual Agent (he knew to do this because he came from a Professional football background) that negotiated a GUARANTEED big money contract for Luger. This pissed off a lot of Wrestlers backstage (Road Warriors were REALLY furious, ESPECIALLY Hawk). Remember Hawk's famous quote at the end of his promos early on "and dead men don't make money"? I guess we knew what HIS number one focus was, looking back on it. Also, remember, it was Hogan's idea to put Luger over and win the title in Ann Arbor Michigan on that 100th episode of Nitro. Let's be honest, if Hogan is putting you over AND it's HIS idea to do so, you're doing something right. He was one of my faves as a kid but that guy was like the exact opposite of guys like Scott Hall when it came to putting people over. Scott would put over a Jobber if it made sense, there was a bigger picture and you could make money out of the angle. He "kinda" did that with 123 Kid in WWF.
@@megatitan9559 super point. It was a strange decision. He says a natural Face successor to Hogan.
Exactly. Whenever people post that Luger was "overrated" or was an "underachiever" I just roll my eyes. Such revisionism.
Great theme.
luger was a great two faced heel.
Love that Luger had more themes than he had characters or titles. This one I like.
Luger actually held 12 titles in Crocket/WCW. Sorry to be that guy
And is still the current longest reigning champion of the title defended today as the WWE United States Championship.
There is only one Total Package Lex Luger.
Lex gets a lot of flack for not being as over in the WWE as expected but anyone trying to be nothing more than a Hulk Hogan ripoff would've had the exact same fate.
I really rate his work in wcw in the late 90's/early 00's. He became his own character and was genuinely believable as a main event heel/babyface. I feel like Curt Henning, he was criminally underrated in terms of his win/loss record and should've held the title after defeating Hogan for at least a few months (not a few days!)
The total package lex Lugar will always be apart of Wcw royal history legendary
Lex and Sting ARE WCW history.
Lex probably had the greatest physique of all time in his prime. Though looking at him now you wouldn't know it. Never a great worker but nobody looked better and I'm including Scott Steiner who to me looked freakish, Lex had perfect proportions and just looked like you'd imagine a Greek god would look.
Goldberg lex great physique in wwc time said by Daniel
Perfect physique.. best ever in wrestling (1989 Warrior od a close 2nd).
Nah, prime Tony Atlas had the greatest physique.
I was a WcW fan, the last few years were bad. But looking back, the last few years of Wcw was better then anything we have now.
The piano part reminds me of 'Chariots Of Fire' by Vangelis.
It's a remix
Jimmy Hart always did instrumental versions of popular songs with minor tweaks in order to avoid copyright infringement. A lot of stars from the 90s had similar remakes.
Lex Luger wasn't the best worker or perfromer, didn't have many moves, or cut the best promos, but he simply had the "IT factor". When he was on the card you wanted to watch. One of the best of all time! "Flexi Lexi"
This was one of my favorite themes
Lex Luger should had got a WCW title shot back in 1999 and 2000
Knowing how WCW would take inspiration from popular tracks, I'm surprised this isn't titled 'Chariots on Fire'.
this was a dope theme
Luger had the best physique in pro wrestling WOW Theme is a copy of Vangelis Chariots of fire 1980
The Narcissist

If never broke his neck, imagine what he could’ve done in WWE
I don’t remember him breaking his neck. He had a spinal stroke.

@@kevincastellitto6988 Instantly thought of Bobby Heenan when I read your comment.
This killed Luger off completely
The drugs did yes
Torture rack used to be that move, boy.
I only just noticed a similarity to Vienna by Ultravox, could have definitely been an influence on this theme, it's genuinely great.
Also 'Rebound' by Terry Devine-King; identical, even.
Total Package!!

Luger might not have been a great wrestler but he was a fantastic entertainer, he kept himself in phenomenal shape and he got to bed Miss Elizabeth while she was still insanely sexy.
My favorite Luger is comical Luger and the one who lost the fight against a t-shirt.
