Mark Lowry co-wrote the song and as sung with the Gaither Vocal Band, one of the premier southern Gospel groups. Mark is also a comedian and has many funny videos as well as clips with Gaither concerts. You may want to check out David Phelps, O Holy Night, another member of the Gaither Vocal Band.
I have to say this is the definitive version of this song. So ethereal, angelic. I was fortunate to see them in person last January for their one night at Florida State University. They are so under-rated. I'm a VoicePlay / Geoff Castellucci fan, but I will stop and listen to Voctave. Occasionally the fellow at your right looking at the group, EJ Cardona, will do a video with VoicePlay, Two I'm very familiar with is I Can't Make You Love Me (a Bonnie Raitt cover) and Go the Distance (Disney - Hercules). I hope you look them up.
He wrote the lyrics back in the 80s. The pretense of the lyrics was that someone asked Mark what he would say to Mother Mary if he ever had a chance to sit down with her.
