Regarding 11:08, the reverse of the Mexico gold 50 pesos coin features an eagle with a rattle snake in its beak and perched on a prickly pear cactus growing in the middle of Lake Texcoco. It is from the famous Aztec legend that when they saw these prophetic signs, then they would know it was the location to build their capital city Tenochtitlan which Spanish Conquistador Hernan Cortes would later rename it as Mexico City.
Thanks for the summary Sal. I'm glad you did this one. I'm half way there & still need the big mamma one. Probably won't get that until (if) spot comes down.
I bought myself two of the 50 pesos gold coins in 22' & 23" for under $2,200 each! They are re-strikes but I love those bullion coins. Big and good looking. Mexico knows how to design their coins!
That was just a lovely set. It’s certainly deserves a display case to show it off. Also nice that it’s fractional gold which could come in handy in a pinch, especially given the low premiums. The Mexico mint ahhh, what beautiful coins they turn out. Wonder why the gold has monetary value, but the silver doesn’t?
The 20 and 50 Pesos are my favorites. It can be argued that the Mexican gold restrikes are the first bullion coins. After all, the Mexican restrikes were meant to be bank reserves rather than circulating coins. Before the Krugerrand, the only way to stack gold is to buy Mexican Pesos, Austrian 100 Coronas, and French 20 Francs. Similar to Mexican Pesos, the Austrian Coronas and French Francs are also restrikes. Your Mexican gold Peso Set would look great in a Capital Plastics holder. Of course, you prefer your coins in the original 2X2 flips.
Now this is a beautiful set of gold coins indeed my friend. I think if I had to pick one it would be the one with the Aztec calendar on it. Very nice indeed my friend and as always thanks for sharing.
There has been some debate that the bird on these coins may be a Kara Kara rather than an eagle. In fact, many refer to the Kara Kara as a Mexican eagle down here close to Mexico.
Just a point of clarification that might be of interest. And that is the fact that it is possible to possess a 1947 50-Peso, Mexican, Centenario gold coin that WAS a part of the country's ORIGINAL production in 1947. Some 309,000 such coins were minted that year. On the other hand, MILLIONS of "restrikes" have been minted in certain years thereafter; the same being all backdated to the year "1947."
Always nice to complete a set then sit back and look it over. I have an Aztec style coin in my safe. Very unique and unusual. Have to find it and describe to you. Got from Golden Eagle 5 yrs ago. I think it's over an ounze. DR.COOINZ !
Congratulations, just as you say Sal they are very very nice indeed 😊 that's a collection i would be so proud to have in my collection, simply stunning very well done 👏
Beautiful gold set, Sal. It would look great in a black Capital holder! I have a small 6 coin Sovereign set I'm putting into a black Capital, and I like it a lot.
Sal, the 1945's aren't restrikes they are original minted coins. 1947 and up are all restrikes. I'm not sure if I missed that on your video. I just had my set graded and conserved (non restrikes). I know how you feel about graded coins.😃
That is not to say that some of the dated coins could be originals. I think it;s just that they chose those years for some reason. I wish there was some other way to tell. Thanks Gerardo!
Nineteenth! Hi Sal. A rare correction. The Heraldic Eagle is always the obverse of Mexican coins. The 20 peso has the newer eagle design on its obverse. The New Libertads have all the older heraldic eagles, surrounding the current eagle, on the obverse of the coin. Another thing, you need at least five of the 50 peso coins for a decent collection!!!! That would be over 6oz. of gold. *:-)*
The more I think about it, I'd like to get another gold pesos to go with my lonely 2.5 Dos. It's looking kinda sad by itself among the gold maples and Brits.
Beautiful collection, I have the 5 pesos 10 pesos and 20 pesos, I need to save money to buy the other coins to complete my set lol You just need one more, the one peso, that's the hard one because is not to many, and cost little more than the 2 and 2 1/2 pesos..
Beautiful set, the coins have a great design and $26 for the 2,5 Peso is an awesome price. There is also a 200 Peso Bicentenario coin, is it also part of this series ?
Nice coins. 👍 thanks for shoutout fyi i know its Levi but said like Levy. 😀 thankyou Im mad Golden State did you that way. Your coin should be in there
It'd be a numismatic crime to do so, but please Sal, find a nice old wooden box and dump all your coins and rounds, and your girlfriend's pearl necklace, and all your paper money into it, and then bury it, then start a video, and dig it up. It would be as close as anyone ever gets to experiencing what it would be like to open a true pirate treasure. Yo ho ho and have a bottle of rum in there too. FULFILL OUR DREAMS SAL. IT'S ABOUT THE FEELS.
Congrats Sal....must a agree...the 20 and 50 are a DEAD HEAT (tie) in my book, two of the most Beautiful North American designs of all time!👏👏👏😊

Awesome! I hope you can get them all
Love when I’m searching RUclips and an old Sal video pops up!
Wow! Cool. Thank you 3
Regarding 3:33, that $26 price for that Mexico gold 2½ pesos suggests that the spot gold price of gold at that time was around $431.28 per troy oz.
That sounds about right or even lower. The guy I bought it from charged higher premiums

Any way to tell a restrike from the original?
I'm not sure other than slight wear on the originals
What’s the current value of the Peso with the Aztec Calendar?
Average bullion premium above spot
Hey Sal, what would you recommend purchasing 2 pesos coins in quantity to do a quarter oz. Or buy a quarter oz gold eagle ?
I would go with whatever is cheaper.
Nice Sal. I have no gold but I believe a gold Libertad. would be my first choice. I will trade you your pesos shown for ones that I have.
