- Tiempo de Nô, for snare drum and live electronics, consists of an overture-like introduction that gives way to five cycles plus a final epilogue, all articulated in a continuous single-movement form. The first section, the opening, and the last, the epilogue, attempt to recreate the tempo and perception of the theatricality of traditional Japanese No, thus creating a kind of sonic perspective with the central part of the work constructed by cycles with varying degrees of climax. I also wanted to pay a posthumous tribute to the Japanese composer Toru Takemitsu.
The electronic material is mainly based on transformations and processes of the sound of the box, creating a dialogue with it and an expansion of its possibilities. It uses an instrumental gesturality that contrasts with the already abstract sound of the snare drum.
The present score has been, among other things, a musical response to the fascination for electroacoustics that I saw daily in my composition students. It is dedicated to Sisco Aparici, the performer of the premiere, which took place on 25 November 2008 in Salamanca.
