- It's the last day ... as we tick off the final stations of the quest and it's a wonderfully scenic journey across the top of Northern Ireland,, taking in breathtaking view as the railway hugs the coast.
All The Stations - Ireland sees Geoff & Vicki exploring the length and breadth of the 198 stations of Iarnród Éireann and the Northern Ireland Railways networks. Along the way, they'll meet the communities connected to the lines, interview local people and those who work on the railways, to find out about their experiences of travelling by train.

To The Book! "The Railway Adventures" is published by September Publishing and was released in October 2018. It accompanies the 2017 'All The Stations' adventure, when we travelled to all 2,563 railway stations in Great Britain. Available here: www.amzn.com/1910463876

Thank you so much, Geoff, Vicki and team for another wonderful series. It has been a delight.
Couldn't agree more!
You would have passed right by the old Magilligan station, between Portrush and Derry/Londonderry. My father lived there for a few years when it was a private house. The platform still exists but no trains stop there anymore.
Can't believe Vicki didn't immediately think of Hagrid for Robbie Coltraine.
Maybe they edited the Hagrid recollection out to make us think exactly that.. ;)
Why are you all focused on Potter? His best work was in Bond!:
ruclips.net/video/e1ilkmgOdng/видео.html
Or John on the Jazz pedal ; ))))
He'll always be Hagrid to me. And probably Vicki.
"Wait, I shouldn't have said that."
Vicki needs to hand in her Harry Potter Fan card, ;-)
I love how you guys just completely avoided saying the name of the final station (198 - tick!)... probably best given the controversy ;)
I've heard stories of foreign tourists saying the wrong name when asking locals how to get there, and being told "there is no such place". That's a real shame, cos it's a lovely city, and I guess Translink NI are just being pragmatic calling it Derry-Londonderry.
I was going to ask why they called Derry both Derry and Londonderry...
I guessed it was something political - So why is it named as it is?
@martin - It was originally Derry, but in the 1600s under English King James 1 (Scottish King James VI) it was renamed as Londonderry. Generally speaking Catholics continued to call it Derry and Protestants called it Londonderry, and so how you call it can define your 'side' in the ongoing tensions of NI.
Is there a neutral version?
I’m tempted to start calling it Derrylondon - the best kind of compromise, leaving both sides unhappy 😉
@@KasabianFan44 The best compromise name is that used to promote its year as City of Culture in 2013, "Legenderry". The local satirical name is "Stroke City", referencing the forward slash which is often used in place of the hyphen used by Translink. The BBC named their local radio station "Radio Foyle" after the city's river to avoid controversy.
The vast majority of people living on this island (i.e. almost everyone in Ireland plus the nationalist community in Northern Ireland) always have and always will call it Derry and Irish speakers have never put "Londain" and "Doire" together. The success of the TV series "Derry Girls" will undoubtedly lead to more people in Great Britain dropping the London prefix, as the politics of the situation are unlikely to matter to people who are unfamiliar with the place.
Up to this point I've stuck to the facts and the likely outcome of the spread of the phrase "Derry Girls". However, as an Irishman with strong views on the subject, it would be remiss of me not to give voice to them when the conversation permits. To me, the name Londonderry has always been absurd and reminiscent of a man forcing his strong-willed wife to at the least take on a double-barrelled surname, with his coming first, rather than respecting her wishes to forever be known by her birth name. It's about control and disrespect for what went before.
The unwieldy hyphenated name is one of the many supposed "compromises" endured by Irish people for the sake of peace. An actual compromise would be to rename the city altogether. People who consider the Irish opinion on the matter to be over-the-top ought to consider how they would feel about living in Parismanchester, Madridswansea or Berlinglasgow. I was born in Ireland's second city and would never stand by and see it renamed Romecork.
Thank you Vicki & Geoff, two beautiful spirits...for taking us on your wonderful train adventure to Ireland and Northern Ireland, it was a delightful pleasure! ✔ I honestly feel blessed to have gotten to know you via your adventures! Again thank you both and everyone involved for all their hard work and dedication...it was amazing! Wishing you all the best in everything you do! Going to miss you both...will be waiting with anticipation to see what's next! 💖 Lots of love...take really good care!
Also my nana was born in Ballymena and a pearl of wisdom should bestowed on me for remembering the towns of the counties Antrim and Down is this:
"If you weren't so Ballymena with your Ballymoney you could buy a Ballycastle for your Ballyholme".
Now for All the Stations USA
THAT would be something
They'd be in their 60s having completed that.
You finally shook Dave! 😆 Seriously, he was a good source of rail information. Congratulations, this series was fun to watch and has me anticipating where you might go next.
A really likeable guy!
And to that we say goodbye to All the Stations: Ireland and congratulations Geoff and Vicki here's hoping to another season of All the Station's.
Anyone up for All the Stations: France
They have to do the countries connected by Rail/Sail so yes, France but how about Holland too?
Or the Netherlands..
Erik Griswold the Netherlands would be great!!!
No all the stations New Zealand or Australia
All The Stations Switzerland
Loved the latest remix of the ATS theme. So happy and chirpy. ATS Goes Continental Next!
Ohhhh yes, I like this idea! 😄
Well done Geoff and Vicki. Such a joy watching your videos and seeing your amazing journey around Ireland and Northern Ireland. Ireland is a wonderful country with beautiful places to visit and wonderful sceneries. 👍🏻
So bright and refreshingly different from anything television travelogues can do. Well filmed, too. Well done for all your hard work coming to fruition. I've enjoyed this series very much, thanks!
... and thank YOU to Geoff, Vicki and All The Stations teams for a great series. Really enjoyable, so what's next ...?
With a nod to the Goon Show..."Welcome to Balham- Gateway to the South---and now, All the Busstops"
Very good, thanks. I grew up in Derry/Londonderry, or, as it’s also known, Stroke City, and know all these stations very well. City of Derry airport is about 15km from Derry, and when I lived there was known as Eglinton Airport. There were no commercial services then, but light aircraft would use it occasionally. The railway tracks crossed the runway, and occasionally the train would stop while a plane landed. Allegedly the driver was once heard to ask what should happen if he saw a plane coming in to land. Who had right of way?
The beach at Downhill really is amazing, and the train ride through the two short tunnels under the Mussenden Temple is truly spectacular. The Mussenden Temple was part of a stately home built by Bishop Hervey, the Earl of Bristol, a famously eccentric cleric. The mansion is now derelict, but I remember visiting it as a child when it still had some of the roof on, and going in what had been the wine cellars.
I had two brilliant years at college in Portrush and frequently walked on the beach there too.
Great job and well done. I have to say Sir Palin was right about the view.
Counting with All the Station's sounds like a very educational show.
I believe the Isle of Man was due next (and/or Liechtenstein)
I'd say Liechstenstein
Even though the only line through Liechtenstein goes from Feldkirch (AT) to Buchs (CH)
All the stations Vatican city.
All the stations Liechtenstein would be a really cool April Fools Video!
I'd say Luxembourg after Isle of Man.
All the stations Iceland!
When I was wee and we are at Downhill beach (the beautiful one) and a train passed, we all waved to it and the people on the train all waved back!
Coleraine is my hometown yeoooo nice to see you both here i ride the derry/londonderry line loads just was on it today in fact
Thank you for the Vicky Explores Portrush - very enjoyable
I’m Irish living in Australia and these videos have been keeping a lid on my homesickness! What am I going to do now??
Thank you so much for the series. 💚
Moist eyed at the end. Really was the best at the end. Thank you, and bless you both.
Enjoyed the tour immensely, I think you've been a wonderful advert for Ireland both north and south, beautiful place and genuinely nice people.
Thanks Geoff & Vicki. I enjoyed every one of the 198 ✅s
I’m not passionate about trains but this was strangely addictive. I enjoyed this a lot, thank you both. Why not try Holland, you could call it “All the Coffeeshops” 😜
✅VG
Congrats Geoff and Vicki! Thank you for taking us all over the island. Here's a challenge of your next ATS, the most challenging country to do. USA! Come back to the US, Geoff! Visit the former Thirteen Colonies and compare Amtrak to National Rail. Our country is big and beautiful, as big as the Sahara! Visit NY, my neck of the woods and I can show you around
Once the East Coast is covered there would be hours and hours between stations. In a country that's primarily freight based rail passenger service has been on the back burner for eons. Really not much to see as far as stations go. Germany or France would be my pick for a next destination.
Thanks so much again for a wonderful adventure. Looking forward to your next quest!
Hint: all the Pacers 👌🏽✅
Okay, wow. That bit on the beachside was a serious blast from the past. I remember seeing that shot from when Michael Palin made that description in "Great Railway Journeys: Derry to Kerry" when I was 4 years old! What made it even more amazing was that, if I'm not mistaken, your music composer wove in some elements of the music from that episode into this segment. Absolutely amazing. Only part that's a shame is that you couldn't get the full Palin experience by completing this section, and your Irish rail journey, on a special steam train. But then, that would have taken a hell of a lot of arranging and the loco "Slieve Gullion" that Palin rode behind is down for restoration anyway.
One bit you missed, though, is where the train turns away from the sea, cutting off Magilligan Point, and runs across what used to be the runway of RAF Ballykelly. Trains had the right of way over landing aircraft!
Brilliantly done as always
Oh my gosh, well done Geoff and Vicki!!! I have withdrawal symptoms now. I'm an native Irishman and think you did our little island proud. Thank you so so much for my daily entertainment!!!!

Thanks, Geoff and Vicki!
Ireland, Tick! Thanks so much for making this series and bringing us along! (I'm so happy I was able to help back it and be a part of it in some small way!)
I consider it bad etiquette to not wait for the refreshments trolley to come to you. Patience is a virtue.
Now I need to finish watching the first series. This was amazing.
What would have been really nice is if the rail company had seen you mention Michael Palin on the previous episode, and then flown him to Northern Ireland to surprise you at 'The Most Beautiful Segment'. Now THAT would have been a memorable ending to your journey!
Thanks for all the work from both the UK and Ireland all the stations hopefully it won't be long till another hopefully all the preserved Stations and Preserved railways of the Uk that would no doubt be a fantastic documentary to watch
Well done Vicki and Geoff!!!! We are all so proud of you and can't wait to see what awesome projects you both do next!
