The Terminator likely scanned the Sea of Blood before making his choice to throw himself into it. The fact that it has an infinite depth makes pressure unlikely to befall him; he would just keep sinking and sinking beyond anyone’s reach, preventing his knowledge of the Hourglass from being exploited. It’s not self-termination if he is still active. It’s just creating an obstacle impossible to overcome in an environment that is impossible to navigate or take control over.
