NEW INVESTMENT OF NEARLY 3500 CR IN PURULIA WEST BENGAL FOR STEEL INDUSTRY BY SHAKAMBHARI GROUP

- Steel industry is growing in the state.
Shakambari Ispat and Power Limited has applied for environmental clearance from the government for the expansion of the factory.
The company has decided to grow this steel plant in Purulia at a rapid rate.
According to sources, about 3,420 crore rupees will be invested in this expansion project.
The factory will be built on an area of about 320 acres
Its factory at Padhadiha village in Santuri block of Purulia was originally under Bikash Metal and Power Limited.
However, the factory was closed in 2013 due to losses.
In October 2021, the Shakmbhari group acquired this rugged steel plant.
After that it was decided to open the factory again.
The new name was SPS Steels Rolling Mills Limited
According to the company, currently there is an employment capacity of 200-300 people.
However, if the expansion plan is implemented in the future, about 900-1000 people will be employed in this factory.
The new unit of the factory was officially launched at the beginning of this year.
The then Industry, Commerce Minister Partha Chatterjee was present on the occasion.

Understand the difference between investment and tax revenue. Investment generate economic activity and only a small part of the economic activity generate tax, e.g. employed person above tax threshold paying income tax or a purchase on which GST is levied. Investment is good for employment but provide less, slow but steady tax revenue. But selling alcohol, which already have high tax on them, one can get quick tax revenue. One have to maximise tax revenue for running Government. Some do it by taxing petrol, oil, LPG, others do it by selling liquor.
Moreover, West Bengal Government have not yet got 1lakh 968 crore of its share from GST from the Central including revenue deficit grant as per 15th finance commission and payment for MNERGA. Without making up for the shortfall, debt would increase catastrophically.
West Bengal had the highest debt to GSDP in the country in 2005 at 50% and second highest in 2010 at 43%. In '21-22 it is 35% and ranks sixth highest. Do you want it to see the percent decrease or not?
