Phil Collins isn't classically good-looking, but anyone who OWNS A PERFORMANCE like this is hot as hell.
Yes!!!!!
If you don’t feel goosebumps from head to toe when he hits the drums then you ain’t human!!!! The drama of that performance was INTENSE!!!
Erin Hafer Goosebumps? It takes my breath away every time!
And in the intro..
Can you imagine what the crowd felt like in that video some of which had their eyes closed to absorb the moment, if we watching third hand felt like that....wow
Greatest "Air Drum" moment of all time!
This is one of my favorite live videos. It must have been amazing to be in that audience.
Its sad that in the UK he doesn't get the recognition he deserves. Despite the fact he is the biggest selling British artist excluding members of The Beatles. The man is a genius
Yep, and yet you Brits appreciated some of our R&B artists from the 60's more than they were liked here in the early days. I lived in London for a couple of years in the 90's, and Dublin for 6 months. I miss the UK every day. In fact, I'm puttin' on the kettle right now in your honor.
It's ok we love here in the west
DOS-FS Lady your kettle comment, reminded me of a reaction , I watched last night. There’s a reaction channel, on RUclips called After Work Reactions. He reacted to an old British comedy show called Bottom, aired in the 90’s. maybe you’ve heard of or watched, while you was living in the U.K.? If you haven’t, it’s a bloody great show. Stars 2 main characters and they had the gas man show up to read their gas meter and well, I won’t spoil it but if you decided to watch it, you’ll get what I mean about the kettle. After watching the episode last night, I’m gonna see if Amazon has full box set. I forgot how much I loved the show. Tv in 80’s and 90’s was so much better then the shitty reality tv of modern times.
James Poxon ironical the Queen song "I want it all" is all about Brian' May's divorce as well.
@@dos-fslady3140 Cheers Luv.
If there was a short list of underrated musicians of our generation, Phil Collins is in the top 3.
Not gonna lie, this is easily my favorite version of this song. I'm so jealous of the people that got to be at that concert!!!
Sigh, me too
That first guitar chord? OMG! The chills!
Been a fan of Phils for 40 years, this is the best version of this song
Phil Rocks 😀👍🥁
the intro and the drums on this version are from another world. but you could say that about the entire performance
I was 12 now 41 love u phil collins
One of the most iconic songs of the 80s. Incredible live performance. You did ABSOLUTELY the best thing letting it play out. Thank you for that.
This live version of this song is just plain BADASS! He is awesome! He has a ton of great songs!
One of the greatest male vocalists in history.
Would have loved Phil and Freddie do a song together
Dale Hammers And one of the best drummers🥁
I liked how they built up anticipation and layered the instruments in slowly.
And, that's exactly how it was constructed in the studio, in 1981. Then, on Miami Vice (Episode 1, 1984), this show became a hit for the second time.
Had no idea Phil Collins was such a showman! Never saw him perform, even on TV. But his songs are mesmerizing. And the moment when the crowd realized that he was about to sit down behind the drums--magic!
Not to mention how hard to play drums and sing like that is extremely hard
@C L True but Henley never did anything intricate.
The first time I saw this performance, I nearly had an anxiety attack. He's just casually strolling along the stage, no where near the drums. Um, Phil? Ya wanna hurry it up there? You're about to miss your own drum solo, buddy. :-)
Nancy Berry the drums were hidden under the floor until he reached the top of stairs. Then all hell broke loose with the crowd cheering when the kit appeared. You can barely catch it as he he walks towards it.
@@evonne1957 Hey KS -- thank you so much for pointing this out to the rest of us. I did not realize the drum set was under the stage, but saw it coming up thanks to you. Spectacularly dramatic performance!
How many times do you think he rehersed that? He was never going to miss it. He timed it to perfection
🤣🤣🤣🤣
There is nothing that this guy can’t do whether it was with Genesis or when he went solo this guy is just awesome, he’s an awesome drummer an awesome singer an awesome songwriter LOVE Phil Collins!!
Also not a bad actor ;)
Jan Uzzell Phil started out as a child actor.
Every time he hits them drums instant goosebumps
I have listened to this song literally 10,000 times and still love hearing it. I heard it live last year and it was a spiritual experience.
“I don’t care anymore” is another great one. Enjoyed your reaction.🤙🏼
Take me to the 80’s please 🙏🏼 I grew up listening to the 80’s thank god to my parents 🙏🏼 I’m a 90’s kid and I’ll be 29 in October, but I absolutely was born in the wrong time lmao.
No one can do a soundtrack like Phil Collins does in Tarzan 💯✊🏼
If you don’t get chills listening to this and just dance to any of his songs, let alone any 80’s songs, you have no soul.
When you see legend walking on stage.... the one and only Phil Collins✨
Phil Collins is a treasure! Agreed!
You got it,
That scene from Miami vice is Iconic.
This was my mama boy........ she said that man can sang!!!! She loves her some Phil Collins!!! May she rest in peace.....
I think he needs to be Knighted just like Elton John was.
kens32052 he’s british ?
Yes!!!
The entire moment is so beautiful but that guitar moment gives me the goosebumps. The drums moment is something else man.
My mom loved playing drums before she was diagnosed with Primary Progressive MS. Phil Collins was always her inspiration. And she loved the Tarzan soundtrack because of him.
There is no reason to give up what she loves, just adapt it for her. I also have MS so I understand. But don't ever give up what you love if you can adapt it.
Wow...never seen this performance before! Epic!!!!
Brilliant, respectful response, to another, great, British artist!
🇺🇸❤️🇬🇧 👌🏾👌🏻👌🏼
"You have to let it cook. Let it simmer."
💯‼️💥💃🏻✨ ABSOLUTELY!
Ahh Yeah! Crocket and Tubbs rolling down the boulevard middle of the night to go do their thing, this song blasting away the only time both not sure if they where going to live through it, so much so Crocket has to stop and make a call to the ex had to know if any of what they had was real or not, has to be one of all time greatest scenes of all time.
All us 80s kids think of that scene when we hear this song. I've yet to be as cool as them, lol!
They even played this song when they were together on the boat Crockett driven speedin omg both those scenes was my favorite because they played Phil Collins song In The Air Tonight ❤❤❤❤
The song made the episode cool, and the episode made the city cool. Nice work.
The song is either directed to his wife or the Interior designer, whom she had an affair with. The designer was employed by Phil to design certain rooms in their house.......but, the designer and the wife got it on while Phil was on tour. It broke Phil's heart but it gave us one brilliant album.
This is a real god damn performance!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He's one of the best drummers in the world...period
Years ago, my wife and I scored tickets to one of his shows in Las Vegas. I am also an entertainer and I got booked on the night of the show and couldn't attend. My wife worked for NBC in Vegas at the time and came home to tell me, because of her press credentials, she was invited to watch the show from the sound team's platform behind the mixing board!!!! Needless to say, I was pretty heartbroken that I missed that one!
This song always gives me chills after all these years. And you have to play it really, really loud! Love your reactions, love your channel.
YES, VERY LOUD!! 👍👍👍
excatly.... the effect of this sone intensifies the louder you play it.. for me it gets full cranked up when im home alone lol :)
I went to his concert in when he went to Australia earlier this year and even though he couldn't really do anything because he hurt his back or legs or something like that but in the end it was a kick ass show and his son played the drums.
Saw him in Adelaide this year. Awesome concert!! 👍👍
He broke his back and can't play anymore. 😢
I love love Phil Collins💕I was born the year after this song was released, always loved him as a drummer & singer. One of the best 💕🥰
8:19 Literally, understanding the same thing, feeling it together, black and white, we understand the same feeling, at least right at this second. Thanks for sharing!
This performance, his voice, the song, the drumming: pure dynamite. Absolutely incredible.
January 1981 Phil wrote, produced and performed this single in a very subdued UK environment with 'some' attention but not at the the level it's risen to today. The concert we're watching here was at the Palais Omnisports Paris Bercy, in June 2004. At the beginning he recalls a meeting with someone for whom he obviously has no respect (Well if you told me you were drowning, I would not lend a hand. I've seen your face before, my friend, but I don't know if you know who I am. I was there and I saw what you did...I saw it with my own two eyes (In his mirror). So you can wipe off that grin...I know where you been. It's all been a pack of lies.) He's referring, of course, to himself and not to some imaginary other. His lowest point in life (drowning) through his answered prayers for success (I can feel it comin' in the air tonight, oh Lord) to his eventual stardom (I've been waiting for this moment all my life) brought him here to share with you and me the one thing that we're all afraid of...failure vs success. The melody is haunting, the atmosphere follows suit, the lyrics touch all of our hearts and the drum climax is...well, you tell me!
Agree wholeheartedly with everything you said! That is just a great live performance, and you were right just to let it "cook" without interruption. Not long ago, Questlove, great drummer with the Roots, on the Tonight Show played while Phil Collins sang that song, and he was sweating bullets that he would get that drum intro right, it is so iconic (he nailed it fine). It's fortunate that we have RUclips and reactors like you to let younger folks know about these great songs and artists.
He's actually listed as the greatest drummer of all time. Look it up. He gets his props.
You sir are a genuine man and I respect your intelligence and emotional investment in music. It's beautiful isn't it?? My son is a talented musician and I love that his father and I recognized that in him at an early age ( 2 yrs old) much love to you ❤
Phil is screaming his hurt from his heart to his lungs and more.
Between watching reruns of Miami Vice with my Mom and Listening to Genesis and Phil,I’ve heard this song 1000 times..Love it.I think I was about 6 when it came out(I’m 38).Drummers who sing amaze me.Phil and Don Henley and believe it or not Karen Carpenter are 3 of the best.
One of the highlights of my life was being able to see Genesis live. Never been to a solo Phil concert, but I got what I could. Thank you for this reaction.
Yeah, me too Roundhurst Park knee deep in mud lol
The build in that song just pierces you. You're right, he is a treasure.
Usually reaction videos, at least ones I've seen, are from people who have never heard the song before, but seeing you mouth the words along with the song, raise two fingers for the line 'saw it with my own two eyes' and brace yourself in anticipation of the drums was really awesome! I saw this tour in person and it was incredible! In case you can't really see it on the video, the drums rise up from the floor, so the audience wasn't sure he was going to make it to a drum kit in time for the solo and it was nerve-wracking! Lol! Thank you for posting, great video!
Man, while the legendary drum fill in this song is worthy of its status, I feel like people sleep on the bassline following it. It is equally as legendary. If you've never really taken note, go back and listen and really pay attention. I'll bet you've been bobbing your head and tapping your feet to that bassline this whole time and never realized it!
This is 1 of 2 reasons I became a drummer. When that drum fill hits....pure emotion.
I get the chills every time I hear this live version. I’ve heard it about 100 times in 2 days. Phil is a GOAT.
Syd -- This is the first time I've watched one of your videos, and man, you took me to CHURCH!!! Watching this vid with you was beautiful -- thank you so much. Love from Albuquerque. Subscribed!
This song literally grabbed you by the throat and the Heart. Everyone remember this was back in the 80s when Real Performance was King, no Auto-Tune or special effects. The writing of lyrics, music had to stand on its own and this song is a perfect example of that, not to mention the fact that the entire band literally blew the roof off the building during this song. It is Iconic because it is , nothing more nothing less. With this song He Set a musical standard
Confidence, talent.....I could watch it 100 times. Feels.
This brought back memories. I really like this song. As I watched this video, l can’t believe he was still able to sing it like it should. (Sometimes singers in live doesn’t sound like the singing in studio.) He’s great! Thanks.
Miami vice ❤️ loved it! Phil Collins, another Great British Musician! 🇺🇸🇬🇧🇺🇸🇬🇧
YES!!! THANK YOU!!! Phil Collins IS a great treasure to the music world and us!!! TRUTH!!!!!
You are SO right, Phil Collins IS such a treasure…… what a Legend!
Due to some nerve damage Phil can not play drums anymore but tells his fans he can still sing Godspeed Phil Collins 👍💜🙏💖
Who would have thought the live version could be better than the Great job they did in the studio. Musical Genius!
Can I just shake your hand for not stopping the video to give a reaction , a song think this played Soooo brilliantly is one just to let play and stand back in wonder
Let's talk about anticipation of this song, the layers and to the moment he bangs on the drums. In this moment history would be made. And a legend would be created. One Creator said he never seen someone drop a beat 3 minutes into a song. neither have I. This song is just pure epicness.
Phil Collins is a multi talented musician, song writer, and singer and he has an amazing legacy in the music world. To be able to be successful in a big time band(genesis) and then go on to a solo career and be equally successful is no small feat. Sadly, his health has declined in recent years and his performing days are over but his legacy will always be there as well as his great music. A true talent.
Best driving song ever and my first time hearing this was as well miami vice. first episode I believe! Damn I wish I had a Daytona to drive with this at night!
I was a teenager in the 80s. I totally get what you're saying. We were so lucky! I feel blessed.
Did you notice how he slowly walked down the steps then across the stage and up the opposite steps? I thought that was so awesome!
Saw him in the old Montreal Forum. This song was worth the price of admission. Also saw him with Genesis in Toronto and Mama live was worth the price as well.
I saw this gentleman live in April 1997, at a concert in Champaign, Illinois. This song was in the center of the playlist, and that entire place was ELECTRIC as soon as this song started.
Yes!!! MIAMI VICE!!! I play that video all the time. Crocket and Tubbs. Sitting at home on a Friday night, waiting to watch this episode. We didn’t have ‘on demand’ back then. You HAD to wait for it to come on the radio, buy the cassette, or the album. I was a huge Phil Collins fan before this. Awesome.
This is pure Phil Collins, his masterpiece and one rocks most iconic songs from that most iconic era of the 80s, they just don't make em like that anymore, pure gold👏💪🖒👊.. cA
He was 53 years old when he did this concert in Bercy, Paris in 2004. Truly an amazing performance by Brad Cole (keyboards, synthesizers, Vocoder), Daryl Stuermer (6 String Guitar), Leland Sklar (Bass Guitar), Chester Thompson ("Rhythm" Drums) and Phil himself (vocals, drums).
One of my favourite songs ever. Also reminds me of Don Johnson driving round at night to this in Miami Vice. Looking fit as.....
One of the greatest musicians of all time and I am very grateful to have managed to go to a show here in Brazil my country, It's a shame I didn't see him play the drums because his health doesn't allow it but the show was amazing Long live this music monster
Your eyes! So pretty.. The widows to the soul.
He started drumming at 5yrs old!! That's how long he's been a drummer!!!❤🌹✌
These was a great homage to Phil. I enjoyed it. Btw, if you're a Gen Xer, like me, they way you stuck Phil Collins into your kids brains, so they'd later go back and listen to his most epic classics, is to get them the Disney animated movie, Tarzan, and its OST, since Phil wrote and produced every song for that movie. lol. Your little ones will dance and sing, and also feel great emotions! Phil's like that when he writes music.
IKR. The drums get me every time I hear it. So very awesome.
New subscriber, here. And I HAD to comment, for two reasons. The first, because this is probably my all-time favorite song by Phil Collins. What a talent! The second reason is because I couldn't believe it when I heard you say where you heard this song for the first time, 'cause that's where I heard it, as well. Miami Vice. (My favorite show of that time!) Thanks for this song, and even though you were very familiar with the song, you had a great reaction as you enjoyed it along with the rest of us. Also kudos to you for doing this song for the guy requesting it; you could have said you'd already heard it. But you did it anyway, and still had a wonderful reaction. 'Cause when music is this great, no many HOW many times you hear it, you can't help but react to it. Wonderful video. I'm now a fan.
Love 💗 this song awesome 😎 love 💗 it thank you for listening and sharing
Yessssss. Miami Vice. First heard it there and loved it ever since. You know the drums are coming and it still makes you stop in your tracks when Phil starts.
You looked a little annoyed initially for a minute~~~but I knew you'd fall in-step with the rest of us. I've seen this a million times...and still feel the anticipation and chest thumping at drum drop. Iconic~~
Mmm I think his vocal in this performance is better than the studio version whoo I have to add his look is so deceptive he looks like your math teacher but then he busts out those vocals and drums and holy shit
You let the song play out. Way to go. Great assessment of the song.
I remember live aid he performed in Europe and when he finished he got on board the Concord airplane and flew to New York to play again a few hours later.
Talent galore.Drummer and singer.Top notch concert performance.Nice review,man.
What a performer , he still 100 even on the drums
Thank you. I was starting to think I was the only one who, remembered that episode. Which was my first time hearing it also.
the arrangement alone is unreal
Iconic performance! Love Phil Collins and love your reaction! ❤️
Goosebumps every single time!
You called him a tresure.. thats love there .. just hearing you say that got me emotional ..
Check out the British cadbury advert with In the air tonight as the sound track one of the best adverts ever.
I saw this same performance live in Florida on his "First Final Farewell Tour"...simply AMAZING in person...the whole show was fantastic!!!! He ran around stage without seeming to get tired at all...and actually SANG (not synced like many current stars) and he sounds exactly like his albums in person....this is a legend for sure :) *if you aren't doing the drums/singing with him by the end, there's something wrong with you hahaha
💯 This is one of my favorite reactions of yours Drama! FR! Phil Collins is an amazing singer & drummer! This song is "other worldly"‼🔥
wow youve got gorgeous eyes really!Love Phil Collins too
Not many artists in history was able to create goosebump type songs, but Phil definitely pulled one off. Awesome ass eyes btw. I too also was lucky enough to be born with baby blue eyes lol.
Magnífico phil collins
I was wondering if he was going to play the drums, could not wait to see & hear that iconic drum beat drop in! Wow what a talent Phil Collins is. I forgot how much I love his music, so thank you for doing this song, it is going right on my playlist. Thinking I will have to dive back into Phil Collins & Genesis, see what else I remember.
It's funny that ppl can forget how great some stuff is. I am guilty of this all the time.
Thank you for giving the credit where due and reverence this song commands. You are very learned in the music world and that's rare. Very nice.
And its Live breathtaking!!!
I grew up on this music. Not listened to anything like this, in bout 20 yrs. I’m gonna start buying Phil Collins and Simply Red albums, on vinyl. 👍
