Staying hydrated with clean water is one of the most important survival priorities. Over the years, I’ve tested countless water purification and carrying solutions, but I always come back to the Grayl GeoPress as my go-to for everyday carry. The only problem? Finding the perfect way to carry it-until now.
.
In this video, I take a look at the Grayl Transport Bottle Sling, a carrying solution I personally purchased (this is NOT a sponsored video). I’ll share why I believe this setup is the best way to keep clean water on hand and how my water purification methods have evolved over time. If you’re serious about preparedness and hydration, you won’t want to miss this one!

I'm glad you decided to discuss water. I was a 77F back before 1990 that was primarily water purification.(quartermaster at Ft. Lee. after other mos qualifications) When any situation brings us to fight or flight, training goes out the door. Keeping the ability to procure water and purify it in all circumstances is paramount. Keeping a sill cock key or small multi tool, iodine (yes it sucks), and a heavy baggie(whirlpak) can get you home in emergencies.
I just want to say I love this channel, you guys do a great job
I just wanted to point something out as far as the channel thumbnails go. So generally, RUclips will put a big giant red bar on the bottom of videos that I’ve already watched and you guys have a red box that goes around your thumbnail; so, for what it’s worth to me on my devices a lot of times it looks like I’ve already watched your video and I may not click on it.
Thanks for showing off the bottle holder, and I love all the points that you had. I have been eyeing this product for a few months now.
@@lentztu same.
I will certainly communicate that to Chris as he does the thumbnails.. We appreciate you watching the videos and glad you liked this one 👊🏻
That throws me too
SRO nesting cup with lid and the Campcraft Outdoors canvas prefilter bag both are a perfect match for my Geopress. As long as you have a good prefilter and aren't drinking from a swamp every day, you can stretch your Grayl filter's lifespan over a year easily.
I love my pre-filter from Campcraft Outdoors! Been using a nesting cup I found at Goodwill for many years as well now.. The SRO cup is a good one for sure
I like the idea of the Grayl but haven't pulled the trigger on it due to the price. I carry a single walled stainless steel Klean Kanteen bottle, a Sawyer mini with a straw, potassium permanganate, a BIC, iodine with snacks and electrolyte powder in a shoulder strap system with a pump water filter in my backpack. A $100 for a bottle that doesn't hold a lot of water is a bit too much for me to justify.
I was the same way. I just bought the ultrapress (not the titanium) yesterday tho and have been liking it. I've been carrying single wall stainless bottles for a few yrs now, and I was about to buy a platypus filter that screws onto wide mouth nalgene bottles to see if it would work with my 40 oz klean kanteen. I think the filter is about 45 from rei. Otherwise I always have a Sawyer in a edc bag
I did the same exact set up for many years.. Now it’s hard to go back 😂
@@nicholas3423 Glad you like the GeoPress 👍🏻.. The systems you run are just fine and will certainly work 👊🏻
I felt the same way but finally bought one. My family and I take a lot of road trips, so I liked having a way to purify water easily in an emergency. I’ve been watching the outdoor disasters RUclips channel and so many people die of dehydration
@@FueltheFires yeah, I plan on getting a cup for my grayl ultrapress and the prefilter from campcraft outdoors. Thanks for the great videos
Best process for me is to carry
a supply of known pure water
before venturing forth.
I won't have to worry about any
possible pollutants/contaminants that can't be removed through means available to civilians
I'm going to add a Grayl system to my equipment list this spring. Thanks for the short tutorial.
You got it- Looove my Grayl.. You’ll Honey Smack Dig it 👍🏻
Good job, JJ. Great topic and video. Keep up the good work.
Roger that- thanks again! 👊🏻🔥👊🏻
Very nice rig JJ👍. Handy way to carry your water kit. You can still run a small possibles bag along with your water bottle kit. Hope you and your family have a good week ahead. 🇺🇲🌲🔥🔪
I've been doing a backpack for my EDC for a while now. But, if I wasn't, this is exactly the kind of thing I'd look for. Thanks for sharing.
I just bought the Grayl 4L Transport Pack. It is a neat system to carry a little more gear but am now curious about giving the sling a try for minimalist carry. Thanks for the review and I look forward to seeing more of your videos on it.
I have a few different water filters systems as well as the water purification tabs numerous ways to carry it thanks for the video
Cool.. I think water is crucial and having a solution is paramount.. Thanks for watching 👊🏻
I have the geo press with the SRO / grayl stainless cup carry it in a SRO bottle bag I also have a gsi cup and a canister of fuel in the main part and my mill bank bag , pocket rocket as well as all sorts of drink mixes in the front pouch . Love the grayl geo press it rocks
Right on 👊🏻
What a person chooses to carry in those two extra pockets is endless.
@ absolutely I was impressed at just how much you could put in , I could see overloading it actually and it being heavy
I put a lighter a ferro rod and a couple sticks of fat wood on the back pocket of mine carrier
Always a good idea 👍🏻
The Sawyer is unlimited with cleaning water. The Grail is not and you have to replace the filter. The Sawyer bags do tend to crack. Look what hikers carry. These guys are smarter then Bushcraft guys with cold weather and camping. I'm combining both. The Grail bag is nice. I'm now a Bushcraft guy with trekking poles. Used for walking up and down hills and using for my tarp.
Always a good idea to take the best from all over and use what works for you.. I will say I have clogged several Sawyers long before the Grayl did.. Even with the ability to backflush.. The time to filter was just too much work.. Just my experience from disaster scenes over the years. Thanks for watching!
very cool option!
Hey I've got a one tigress and the thing is amazing I can have a meal bank bag in it as well as a spare nesting cut at the bottom😊 anyway thanks SD
Finally, a water bottle sling that rides like a pack. I've been waiting on this for years! The other designs hang terribly.
They suggest you can wear it in the front too but it just feels “wrong” 😂
Nice. I find it interesting that we assume all water might be dangerous before we drink it. I remember as a kid we used to drink directly out of rivers and streams and springs without even a thought about the water being dangerous. Brackish yes, but not dangerous.
👊🏼🔥👊🏼 glad you figured out your carry.solution
It’s always a process as you know 👊🏻🔥👊🏻
Ok I'm sold brother!! I need that setup. Great video
My wife got me a Grayl for xmas, I was super pumped opening that up. It's really the way to go, I came from a Katadyn filter, I'll never go back. I've been looking at the Grayl slings, can't make up my mind between the two versions. Molle or not?
I would love to see a short video on your watch setup
That's vary useful. I like it!👍
Cool 😎
Great setup 👊🔥👊
Great info! Thank you and God bless :)
I’ll take all the blessings I can get- thank you!
@@FueltheFires Amen brother!
Good stuff JJ! I guess I just thought you probably made the leather holder on your old grayl. I like this. Who cares if you have a "murse"? lol
I think it's pretty badd-ass
Just checked and cannot see it on the UK website. Or maybe I can't see the wood for the trees.
Will be interested to see when it arrives here in Blighty.
Cheers, JJ 😉👍🏼
I know they definitely ship them there.. Might try again.. I will ask them just to confirm 👍🏻
@ I’ll have another look for sure, cheers JJ.
Old school canteen is the goat.
I really like the grayl titanium, i just wish the filters lasted a bit longer between changes for the price. They filter just about anything including lizard pee, but they are pricey. And make that water taste good i might add. Lol gotta check out that carry bag looks kinda handy.
I use a pre-filter from Campcraft Outdoors that extends the filter life quite a bit… I’ve been using it for several years now- so worth it!
@@FueltheFires ok, I will check into that. I knew they made one but wasn't sure if it was worth it or not. Thanks brother.
It's called use a smart water bottle it connects to Sawyer water filters...
What is the neck knife set up you are wearing in this vid? I know you may have gone over it before but I'm new to the channel. Thanks!
I was just thinking about some water system for me. Thx
Cool! You’re welcome and thanks for watching 👊🏻
They have a pouch you can put your smart water bottle in and clip it on your side.
Thanks JJ. do you know of a cup that would fit over the bottom?
You’re welcome- yes, you can use a couple different ones.. Self Reliance Outfitters has one specifically designed for the Grayl and GSI has a larger/taller cup that will fit as well 👍🏻
I have the cups from pathfinder with the GRAYL logo on them ordered them with the GRAYL’s
Nice upgrade 👍🇺🇲
I’m Diggin’ it so far- time will tell 👍🏻
Very cool!!
Thanks J.J where do I get it
You’re welcome.. Here’s the link to the page.. They also have accessories for it 👍🏻 grayl.com/products/transport-bottle-sling
There's a water bottle clip for your belt which clips to the top of the bottle.
I don’t see a link or anywhere to buy it?
G'day JJ. Are you making excuses for old school systems? Everyday solution achieved by customising what you have in-hand. Just an old school mentality. It's 4am here, just in time to hit the paddock & do the daily chores. Ours can be securely clipped to the belt, molle & truck's door handle, the magnets keep it attach to the door etc. We never boil nor cook with the Grayl, got other containers for that, to keep its consistency in filtering. Saw "the cooking" vid, very imaginative, something one cook when one gets the munchies. FTF.!
Hey! Ole skool still works… Just trying to advance a bit.. I like the idea of the magnets for the door! That’s pretty groovy in my book.. Glad you saw the cooking video- munchies are always good 😂
Some schools teach that boiling water is the standard but I think they really don’t factor in how much effort and time you would have to put into it to meet your daily hydration requirements.
I totally concur with your statement! I have 2 of the same 16ozti the JJ does and an older 24oz. I also got the 32oz cup ( ss) to set the entire unit into so I have a second cup in which to cook with negating the cross contamination.
Thanks for showing this JJ and thanks for adding to it Mike. Am
Working on carriers myself with Dakota of the Woods.
MSR Trailshot gives some capabilities that Grayl can’t. However, this is “use case” oriented. If you’re a “woodsman” in the Eastern woodlands where streams/creeks are everywhere or are very sure your survival scenario will be there, the Grayl is an excellent solution.
Could you elaborate for me a little bit on the MSR for me.. I’m interested
@@FueltheFires Sure (based on your channel videos, I am pretty sure you could read reviews or product descriptions of the MSR _Trailshot_ , so what follows are my insights which are derived from my own perceived "use cases").
About 4 features which set it apart from others (I listed more features):
- independent; does not need to be threaded or attached to another container
- shallow water capable; "just the tip" depth is all that is needed
- "extended reach"; tube allows one to maintain a bit more distance from water source
- durable; no levers to break, pump parts are contained and, reportedly, quite tough
- compact and light; could fit in a cargo pocket, a suit coat pocket (a little bulky, but no one notices), a purse, a probably some wide mouth bottles, etc.
- _contamination minimization_ ; the only "dirty" part is how much tubing you insert into the water
"Use cases". Let me mention what I am NOT needing to do when using it:
- I don't need to carry contaminated water, so I don't worry about it contaminating my hands, gear, food, wounds, etc. _But I could_ e.g. if I was concerned about bad guys surveilling my water sources, I could minimize my exposure by quickly filling a container - like a durable plastic bag (maybe from WAZOO) - at the source, then going somewhere safer to purify the water.
- I don't need to find water deep enough or flowing enough to get it into my container. Nor do I need to have a scoop to fill my container from a shallow source (which is not easy and increases likelihood of contaminating things from spillage).
- I don't need to be super close to my water source, which means I am less likely to lose my balance and fall into it, get my hands dirty/wet/cold, and I can keep my head a little higher so I can use my vision/peripheral vision to look out for dangers/predators
- I don't _need_ a container at all. I can drink right from the source, containing it where it matters most - in my body.
- I don't need a specific container. I can integrate it into existing systems - "CamelBack" style bladders, canteens, plastic water bottles from 7-11, etc.
- I don't need to "swap spit" with whoever might be with me, by sharing a bottle or pouring from a bottle that has touched my mouth. I can just _fill_ their container.
- I don't attract attention; the "gray man" philosophy. I could, if necessary, carry it in a way that would not signal to to others - "prepper". True, it isn't as stealthy as a condom and some water purification tablets, but it nothing's perfect. It fits in many jacket pockets.

Ok JJ now I gotta do more research.
🤨
😂😂😂 sorry
👊🏻👍🏻
👊🏻🔥👊🏻
If you have to take the belt off us a clip.
Very expensive for what is, there are better and cheaper options imo
I don't know why I m watching this...
Sorry but all i see here is just another carrying case, just like a small backpack but with less carrying space! Just stuff the grayl into your backpack, and don't waste your money, unless of course you like walking around with a man bag! 😏
