In a recent issue of PEOPLE magazine, Jackie candidly admitted that she continues to struggle with anorexia, which is heartbreaking. Anorexia is the same ailment that prematurely ended the life of Karen Carpenter, one of the world's finest musicians. I ask all Evancho fans to pray that Jackie will fully recover her good health and continue to entertain audiences with the extraordinary artistry and musical genius that the Good Lord has given her.

You’re a very brave young lady for coming clean about such a difficult topic. I posted online about my own struggle with anorexia about a year ago and I don’t regret it. I was diagnosed at 20, though I have struggled since I was about 18 years old. I can’t say I was surprised to hear about your revelation as it’s fairly common among young female entertainers, but rarely do they bring it into the eye of the public. Personally I think going public is the best thing to do. It helps bring light and attention about the illness, to others. Keep fighting it. You will beat it. x

When the voice of a generation Karen Carpenter died from Anorexia at 33 it shocked the nation! This little known disease then, was brought into the spot light. Karen's death saved countless of young women from the same fate! New and effective treatments were developed. Karen Carpenter is thus an angel sitting on both of your shoulders. You and millions other of our precious irreplaceable young women.

Child singer Lena Zavaroni also suffered from anorexia starting at age 13, as well as depression later. It wasn't only anorexia itself that killed Karen Carpenter, it was her bulimia--the abuse of the emetic ipecac, which is a heart toxin, and stays in the system the system for a long time, after chronic use, had damaged her heart, and even though she was recovering from anorexia, she died of a heart attack.

I must say, you are one of the bravest young women out there, I have also struggled with eating disorders (anorexia first and then bulimia) from the age 13 and it is not easy. Talking about it out loud to others and letting them help you through it, is the best way to get healed. After being adopted as a baby and the pressure that I firstly put on myself and all the other pressures, I also had that loneliness inside of me that was eating me alive, but thankfully through lots of prayer, therapy and God's Grace that I always had to remind myself off, I have been free of that for almost 6 years now. I am praying for you. You are really so beautiful.Love Lleneke van Rensburg

Being able to acknowledge you have an eating disorder was an important place to start. I think being in the spotlight at such an early age has to be a huge challenge for such a normal young girl. Having a supporting family is so important and at 18, Jackie is back on track to further her career in a healthy way. That little voice in her head that was telling her she had a problem with her body is the same voice that also told her to be cautious of strangers and situations that didn't seem right. Having a brother who has much bigger struggles than her with gender identity must have helped her deal with social issues at a very young age.

Jackie, you are a very brave young lady for talking about your struggles and doing it on national television. By being willing to share your struggles publicly like this, it makes you an even better role model for other young people. As a mutual friend of ours, Miss Anastasia Lee, said in her comment, body dysmorphia and eating disorders are fairly common among young female entertainers. The late Karen Carpenter died from anorexia at 33 years old and her death brought the disease into the spotlight. In the wake of her death, new and effective treatments were developed and countless young women were saved from a similar fate. Your story is bringing it back into the spotlight again.
The entertainment industry bombards us with unrealistic body images, and younger people (some older ones too) feel they have to live up to that image and be perfect. There is no such thing as perfect. Anorexia and body dysmorphia are an illness, and you going public about it brings it into the public eye. You are not alone in your struggle. You have a great support system in your parents and your siblings who love you unconditionally. Your Heavenly Father loves you unconditionally as well. You also have a lot of fans who love you. Keep fighting, and you will beat it.
We all have our struggles, our crosses to bear in life. That which doesn't kill us makes us stronger. I pray for you everyday, Jackie. You are a remarkable young lady with a bright future.

Jackie’s openness about her Body Dysmorphic Disorder is inspiring. I have the same condition, and I’ve struggled with it since about the age of 15, the same age she developed her eating disorder. Keep in mind though, these two disorders CAN go hand in hand, but they are not the same. BDD is actually classified as a form of OCD, and is not an eating disorder. Obviously, Anorexia is. She, unfortunately, appears to have both. My heart breaks for her, but her openness is something to be respected. I couldn’t imagine having to deal with an eating disorder on top of my other health issues, not to mention, she’s doing it in the public eye. We love you, Jackie. Stay strong. ❤️- Another Pittsburgh Native

Having such disorders may actually help sufferers transcend the usual views people have of themselves, even those seemingly satisfied with their self-image not really understanding their greater selves. True Identity runs even deeper - or maybe higher. "The most common ego identifications have to do with possessions, the work you do, social status and recognition, knowledge and education, physical appearance, special abilities, relationships, personal and family history, belief systems, and often also political, nationalistic, racial, religious, and other collective identifications. None of these is you." - Eckhart Tolle

Best interview I've seen of Jackie. Sounds like she's becoming more real and not the perfect little angel she was marketed as. How could she continue on pretending to be the girl sent by the Almighty to bring people to Christ? She never said that directly, but that's how people were seeing her and how she appeared on her album covers and in the songs that were chosen for her: The little girl with the divine gift who is going to demonstrate the glory of God for all the world to see. How could any human live with a burden like that without going nuts? And why would anyone do that to a little girl; market her as an ambassador from heaven? I hope she recovers from that. It's not guaranteed though. She's still very young and impressionable. And there are still people out there trying to make money off her.

    • @stevebilliter
      @stevebilliter 4 года назад +1

Pat---bringing people to Christ involves much more than entertaining people with some songs that may be similar to hymns. First, one must accept Jesus as Saviour and Lord, meeting all the conditions for salvation, and then witnessing for Him by the example of a godly life and overcoming all sin with His help--being involved in Bible study, and actively working to bring others into His kingdom.
In the Bible, everyone sang and I see no example of any Christian that had an entertaining singing ministry. Is Jackie's talent a gift from God? Sure it is--our entire life and being is a gift from God--we owe Him everything!
I believe that solo artists and other musicians do have a place in evangelism, but it's not something worldly involving lots of applause, adoration, and the lifting up any human being as an idol. In fact, applause is a form of worship and is also a kind of flattery that comes not from God, but the evil one. In my church, we don't applaud anyone for anything, and I don't do it myself either.I just say, "Amen, praise the Lord." That way, God won't judge me for flattering anyone and possibly helping to ruin them.
This is not a judgment on Jackie or anyone else--it's only my opinion based upon Bible studies.
When a person is constantly praised and flattered it takes a tremendous negative toll on one's emotional health that also promotes false pride--only God, our Creator should be praised.I agree that Jackie is a wonderful singer and she brings joy and happiness to a lot of people, but that's as far as it goes.

I have never heard of any prominent males becoming anorexic or bulemic, or, for that matter, dying from it. It appears (at least to me) that it is a purely mental issue with someone who just has trouble in dealing with life issues. Things like this are given names so they can write editorials and create "treatments" which are nothing more than what you get from some time in a psychiatrist's chair. It is a clear shame when you let it get so bad that you die totally unnecessarily, like Karen Carpenter.

So the good and bad co-exist in everyone's mind. This is called the angel and the devil in religeous term. (Ha Ha, this will be described in detail for my new book to be published soon-advertisement time). People do not work by reasoning very often. The majority of actions actually come from suboncious mind, and peosons affect persons by the "flock of sheep effect", that whenever someone start doing something, the whole flock of people follows, without reasoning why!
Talented and successful persons are always the victims of jealousy. People hate them, because of their selfish genes. I am not successful at all, and I have been bullied for 35 years. People abuse me many times a day, which includes serious psychiatric measures, and sometimes physical measures, such as blocking me so that I dropped on the ground while I was doing sports. Fortunately I know a little bit about balancing and was not hurt. Doing dangerous things in front of me so that I get scared, hoping me uncontrolled and has an accident, happens everyday. Stealing my thing in a Police Office, with CCTV Cameras in action, also happened. Breaking my things, stealing my things and sometimes putting them back, happened hundreds of times. Too much to be mentioned, so I stop here! The fact that I saw people hurting much more than me, but never stop. To be continued.
