This guy truly knows who he is as a person and built his life to reflect that. Smart man.
@Mobley House Video Yeah I'm sure he worked hard for it. Nothing is free in life, he's living his best life because his hard work paid off.
@Mobley House Video with hard work anything is possible
Yup. Hard work and diligent planning.
@@NocturnalToothbrush very funny
anything IS possible, anyone can make change, if you say you can't thats just an excuse
"When the sun goes up, it's time to get up. When the sun goes down, time to go to bed", man if I did that in Sweden during the winter I'd have to sleep 18-20 hours a day.
HAH! That's funny :-D
tapp3r
I slept that in Michigan
Same in Estonia. And when the sun comes out, it's still this grayish weather so I'm never sure if it's 9 am or 3 pm.
Hello from 69 degrees parallel.
@@aksa706 Lithuania as well :) We call it cepelinai weather :D
From the start, Ryan was very helpful and is continuing to be helpful about his ruclips.net/user/postUgkxGqOCINHE0Z0E5gxzSdNi9NWGugRY5Hm2 Plans . Also, they have answered all the questions I have asked & I got outstanding support from his My Shed Plans full package.
At first when I heard you say it took you 5 years to build it, I was like "whoa, 5 years to build a 250 sq foot home?" But then when you start the walk-thru, I'm stunned by all the detail work. Everything in there is a piece of meticulously crafted art that all fits together. Lots of thought and lots of hard work to make that a stunning and unique home. Now I'm thinking how hard you must have been working to get that done in 5 years, ha ha. What an awesome place!
That house is absolutely gorgeous and it looks so relaxing and peaceful
bravo
225sq ft !
very funny
Guy needs to list this spot on AirBnB as an experience. I'd pay to spend a night or two there and do some snowboarding.
this dude is an *extremely* high quality human being.
Came off fake as fuck when you start listening to some of what he says.
liiiiiike?
@@littleoldal Well saying that he rejected the golden ratio and came up with his own is one. Pointing to DC aux jacks and calling them rectifiers. Few other things too, but I don't hang on to other peoples bullshit that long. Kinda just laughed and moved on with my life. Especially after looking up how much the guy was still worth. I don't need an aging millionaire hanging on to that cool guy in the loft fantasy to tell me about living in small places. I got a few buddies that are life long truckers. I'm strangely sure they'll be more down to earth, and more knowledgeable somehow lol. Even when it comes to bulletproofing them lol.
The bulletproofing comment for context. The last few years robbers and thieves started just shooting up truck cabs while the driver is sleeping. Shoot em up. Detach the trailer. Hook it to a new rig. Take off. Dirty and dangerous stuff.
@@zyxwvutsrqponmlkjihgfedcba0 i didn't get those feelings when your points came up in the video.
i did think it was bs that he ?planned the beginning/foundation, and all else came organically.
if you've been dreaming of living off the grid since you were little,
you've been kind of planning lots of things for ages, right?
it is a sweet little cool spot he got up there.
must be nice to have money like that. i'll take these 40 acres in the tahoe area.
it'd be more impressive if he was living check to check.
Holy cow.

ok. the star shadow on your birthday is the coolest thing ever!!
I wonder how he designed the star to fit
He mapped it out on the glass when it was his birthday! Obviously!
Hellz yeah!!!! The tiniest detail can mean sooo much!!!! Also, he's easy on the eyes, lollol!💝
@TheFallsCapone Which part of ireland would that be?
TheFallsCapone are there any videos online of this?
There is so much attention to detail in this house it is mind-blowing. The idea of learning as you go has a nostalgic feeling of ancient civilizations using cultural ecology while building on this mountain top. The star that lines up with the pentagon is the most amazing thing I have ever seen. Using the method of ethnoecology to utilize every natural piece of material to build the entire layout is really impressive. I love the table that has the rock within as a hot plate. This entire build has so many layers I can imagine how proud you must feel after it was completed.
I like how he didn't try to simplify his life but instead embraced it and is one hundred percent devoted to it. Very humble and grounded outlook on life. This one man possess more qualities, traits and crafts than any ten people I know. Amazing home and great looking dog
... and great looking dog
😆
Harsh random diss to all ur friends lol
also being rich is a good thing if you want to live cheap.
Dog's gone.
Notice the absence of one thing in that utopia. A woman. Than may be why he finds such peace
It's wonderful, looks creative and cosy. Great light too. You've done a beautiful job. Love that you celebrate your self within your home.
You are so self aware. I’m so glad you’ve enjoyed life so much, from competitive snow boarding to living off the grid while still building new projects. Such an interesting and inspiring video.
"Life is not exactly designed to be easy." Very wise guy. And incredible how multi-faceted he is.... designed and built his own (beautiful) house, maintains equipment and welds, and is a pro snowboarder to boot? Most people would be lucky to have a handful of these talents and experiences!
"life is suffering" It's the 1st Noble truth of Buddhism. Not saying he's not wise just not the first one to come up with it.
I remember seeing him years ago up there in his cabin. His beautiful dog was still with him then. Such beautiful insight, ingenuity, and and genius. Really cool guy and awesome story!
i got sad when i learned that his dog passed away. a beautiful husky.
Hayes Riviere where does it say his dog had died....I must have missed that
he has his own chairlift. that dog was so cute.
It was a subtle reference when he shows the sandblasted window.
The way this man's brain works is artistry at its best.... everything he touches ..he puts his personal stamp on! You can't just go out and buy something like this or put a price tag on countless hours of hit & miss... if I had 10% of his skill and energy I would be a proud man.... I just loved it from every angle ... congrats on a way of life you're living and away from the 40+ hour grind.... I mean he has a chair lift outside his door ... his off road RV is also another extension of his artistry ... (dude stop it already) .. you're making the rest of us look really lazy and just plain regular ... here's to your next adventure because we all know by no means are you done yet.... well fn done ... you know I was just starting to feel good about myself and I ran into your RV vid... kidding but dam ... if this was a contest .. you win ..by a long shot!
"We are energy making matter"
I had to raise my pint to that. This man knows what life is truly about: hard, fulfilling work, happiness and understanding.
Wow. Talk about a labour of love! Very cool!
Thank you...
We all need to get back to this sort of stuff in any way we can. Amazing, and unique craftsmanship. I was impressed when he mentioned building things with the golden ratio in mind. This guys living the dream.
WOW! This house is a piece of art, a functional home, and is well integrated into the land and surrounding environment.
Watched this many times now. Really love the house. It’s architecture from the heart. This guy is a legend.
The star that appears in shadow on his birthday is my favorite part! What a creative and awesome job!! Love love love it!
this man is a humble genius
This guy is a master craftsman. And as has been pointed out he is multi-skilled. Great work & thanks for sharing.
The typical man-made structure is an affront to its surroundings. This blends in beautifully. Very nicely done.
Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
Awesome vid, so stoked to have joined your journey on Patreon this week. Keep the great content coming.
I love how he melds glass and steel and rock and wood... so beautiful and warm!
WOW WOW and WOW!!! Every video outdoes the last. This was just over the top Awesome. SO Inspiring. Great shots of everything. Camera work is always top-notch. Love all the off-the-grid videos. Dont stop :)
Seems like a humble and crafty guy. The cabinet he sandblasted with his dog on it is pretty cool. Definitely a beautiful spot to call home. Like the tunes playing aswell. Well done sir.
the tunes? royalty-free generic guitar chords? lmao
@@CodeProvider yeah dickbag....THE TUNES, however basic they are.
This guy is so humble and honest, I love him! "Live isn't designed to be easy, I hope everyone understands that in some form." I honestly feel like because of all the wealth in western countries we do forget this sometimes, and heartship can actually be very rewarding, like you said! Fantastic video.
Most beautiful cabin I ever saw. Your Blessed
You're*. Sorry I had to :)
Beate Moseidjord he is not blessed. He is f$£₺ing rich.
I love this human, so cool. Our poor society is so convinced that we need all these things. There was this great saying I herd " be careful of the things you own, they might end up owning you."
Where do you think he got the glass, chair lift, the welding station, battery pack, solar panels etc. etc.? He got this all from "our poor society."
I think he should have every right to pursue this as his dream. In many areas of civilization, this would not be allowed by not having permits, following building codes, etc. Blue states are very intrusive with these building permits and restrictions.
1990notch I've lived in both blue and red States and I'll take dealing with public building officials in blue states over homeowners association boards in red States any day. The real issues are urban versus rural attitudes towards property and building codes. I am just starting construction on my retirement dream "man cave" home- the Grouse. Half garage and half house. And it's being built in a very liberal blue state county. The project would never be approved in an urban or suburban areas. But in a rural area the rules are different. A 750 sq. ft. apartment built into a 1600 sq. ft. garage/workshop. One of the inspectors has been incredibly helpful and also obviously envious of my new place. Which I have invited him to check out and see. I have managed to do what I wanted and build a home that meets fire and building codes. And I will be able to insure it because of following the rules. Living and building in a rural area is the biggest determining factor as I see it.
I live in CA, a blue state and have rural property in another blue state. On the rural property, I can change a light bulb without a permit but just about everything else requires a permit, $$ and inspections. Many are non structural like alarm systems, sprinkler systems, etc., require permits. I just googled "states with highest HOA fees", the top 10 cities with the highest fees are all in CA, NY, HI, MA and FL. FL is a red state but the rest are blue!! CA has HOA's all over. I do agree with you for the need to have compliance to safe building standards for safety and insurance, etc. My first post was merely to point out that much of the way that he built this house would not be permissible in many areas. Try to create your own solar power system any way you please or mill your own lumber and see how that goes over in some of these strict localities. The trend towards more sustainable alternative housing may have an impact on changing what's allowed while still maintaining adherence to safe housing principles. We'll have to see. If you prefer blue state living, then great. To each his own.
1990notch No problem. I admit a strong bias against homeowners association because of a previous home. If it hadn't been so infuriating it would have been laughable. I started off on the wrong foot and went downhill from there!! LOL!!! I am sure the board were considering hiring off duty cops for security reasons after my visits to the board meetings. Definitely thankful to have moved on to another state. And I am sure they felt the same way....
You have the best, aesthetically, pleasing, off-grid site. I love it, love it, love it.
I just became ten times lazier watching this video . Going back to bed . Very cool !!
I like how everything overlaps seems cozy
*There is so many clever design concepts in this house and the birthday star on the pentagon is legitimately brilliant. What a home*
That’s the coolest cabin I’ve ever seen!! Great job! Awesome use of stone and wood!!! Wow
This here is a guy who knows what he wants and knows how to get it, I’m have maximum respect for you!
Having a net worth of over 17 million doesn't hurt either.
He goes from being a snowboarder, being tired of that...then learns to sell photography to support himself...that's evolution.....really inspiring.
So amazing! Thanks for posting this!

l have watched this twice now over a space of several months, and it won't be the last time! At 76, I do not anticipate ever doing this myself, but I can still enjoy the concept and live it vicariously.
Wow. Amazing.
I love how his house not only fit the environment on the outside, but also on the inside
Coolist off-grid video ever! This guy has been able to convert his dream into a medium that we can all appreciate.
beautiful soul and an amazing home!
Wow, that place is AMAZING, so blessed to have that, it looks so peaceful!!!!👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Love this. Watched it years ago, brought me back after watching videos on sacred geometry, mathematics and golden ratio. Understand his thought process for this build. Amazing
I moved to country side from city in South Korea. Recently the temperature goes down and winter has came. Freezing cold and a bit frustrating but your vibes makes me so warm today. Awesome question! I've always wonder that

maybe about the book from the snowboarder, maybe there is an email inside? but also the publishing company has his dates, i am sure.

nah ill still take the mansion. cool house nonetheless
i'd take the 200mil mansion, sell it and buy 100 of these off grid cabins

His house is amazing i must say. Im a architecture student and although i do not agree with his presumptions about the golden ratio, he came up with a amazing piece of architecture . All the placement , allocation of room, bedroom , kitchen are based in the real though that architects go through to plan a house. Im sure that if this guy submitted his house to any architecture prize, he would win.
Yeah, his confusion about the golden ratio was frustrating, but it's minor in the face of all his incredible work.
i will give you a short answer because its easier to find videos about it. But it's a ratio that can be found through fibonacci sequence. The sequence is a math equation that was observed in animals and nature that follows a geometric progression in wich every segment is the double of the segment before. The ratio is then defined by the intersections of this sequence. In a a4 paper, the ratio in in the thirds, wich is a simplification of a more complex division coming from the a0 paper, wich is 1mx1m
if i wasn't clear, i really recommend watching some videos about it. It's a common knowledge that everyone should have.
cr pk he probably related to The Modulor a concept developed by Le Corbusier, based on the golden ratio. Inasmuch as the proportions being evident in the human body, "own golden ratio" implies proportions of one's body to the surrounding space construct. Hence devisal of metrics of space based on own body size.
cr pk image.slidesharecdn.com/lemodulorfinal-140328005510-phpapp01/95/le-modulor-final-5-638.jpg?cb=1395968185
I just wanted to say that I thought I'd like this video, and it was incredibly far more interesting than I thought it would be. It's rare to find someone who puts so much thought into intelligent design. It's an amazing build!

The birthday thing is a very cool idea, I love it
Oh wow this is like a dream of a cabin, its beautiful! I started doing time restricted eating last year and, I have found as a result, I am finished eating at 6pm and as a result go to bed earlier and wake up about 5.30am. It seems to have fallen into a natural rhythm and I'm sleeping much better and have more energy as a result. A wonderful cabin in a location like this would also put you back in touch with your circadian rythm too. I love this one! Its maybe more work to be up on that rock but I bet you go to bed tired but happy every night!
Can definitely feel that he had a close relationship with his dog. Those dudes are closer than family sometimes
How the hell did he figure out the star fitting the pentagon on his birthday. Id fail the hell out of that math problem
he probably placed the star on his birthday. ez.
Took him 5 years to build it, he had more than a few tries.
draw the star on the pentagon, wait till your birthday, take some masking tape and when the time is right, tape the outline of the star on the window, so the shadow matches the drawn star on the pentagon. Then make it in something more definit. If cloudy, wait another year. 😆
@@Onrust1 If you track it for weeks or months, you'd be able to fill in the gaps you missed due to cloudy nights.
on his birthday put masking tape on the window
Wow! Absolutely stunning home!
Great video, Awesome life.
Whenever I see videos like this, I am always curious about cost. Like how much did the land cost to buy? How much did it cost to build? And How much in property taxes does he pay? Is it less because he built an off grid home? My dream is to buy some land & build an off grid house someday. I have been researching the best states to do this. But the laws are always changing and vary wildly from state to state and even from county to county on what is legal and what isn’t. I would really love to see a deep dive on this aspect of tiny living. Otherwise very cool video. It’s always inspirational to see people living an unconventional lifestyle and making it work.
Well for some perspective if you google his net worth its 18 million dollars- don't care how accurate that is , and he bought 40 acres in the Tahoe area which wasn't cheap.
Who is he like to check out is snowboarding..
@Multorum Unum He built most of it himself. Besides the land, I’m sure you could do it for pretty cheap if you DIY. He said he even milled the wood. Sure the land is in the Tahoe area, but if you look somewhere else, I bet you can find inaccessible land like this for relatively cheap. I’ll send this to my architect buddy and see what he thinks something like this would cost if you were to DIY. My bet is around $100,000. This guy may be worth $18 million, but he appears (based on this video) to live a very humble life.
People with a hefty trust fund are hardly worried about cost... kuds to this man for having the means to an end though
You know you are truly in touch with yourself when you make a house that reflects you as a person.
What a truly rewarding life.
Not many homes have a petrified mammoth bone hot plate!
I have a pile of petrified buffalo poop. Does that count for anything? It didn't to the buffalo
@@robertgarland805 probably not but one day it might offset a carbon footprint or something. As far as dung goes that is top shelf :-)
