Love the DIYs! I have an mk4 and I'm getting close to doing a turbo for the 3rd time and this will make everything wayyy easier by taking the engine out.
Awesome job with describing the engine removal, straight to the point...! Glad I found your multiple videos! Plan on removing my 1.8T in the upcoming Spring to do a full degrease, clean up, and replacing any old parts. Is a 5spd easier to remove? I want to preserve my AC. Thanks
its exactly the same. to keep the ac intact make sure to have the car off the ground about 2 to 3 feet which will give you great wiggle room to prevent the soft aluminium lines from bending
Bro, i need your advice!! AC compressor!! I am ready to drop the block, but i cant until the AC compressor is unhooked?? I cant get the car to a garage. Im stooped :/
So i have to pull the trans with the motor? Maybe I just dont see a way? Im going off my 99-05 manual and it says i have to drop it down as a whole and then disconnect.. Was really hoping to just unbolt and lift out..
Correct just unbolt, disconnect coolant power steering lines, axles, motor mounts. Be very careful of the main AC line so it does not bend. You lower the motor about 2 or 3 in and it rolls right out with a cherry picker
+PincheALs Garage okay did that now when you removed the ac line from the "dryer" I believe that's what it's called , I removed it and a hiss of refrigerant came out if that's what it is , how does that save the ac then ?
Gaghunf just unbolt from the engine. There is a couple 16 or 13mm bolts that hold the lines. Then youll need to drain your power steering lines on the lower left side of the engine. There is a 10mm bolt and youll need a cresent wrench to remove the top hose.
I like ACT and Exedy clutches. Just an FYI it will be very pricey for a 6 speed one. Make sure you get a new throwout bearing and of you have the extra $$$$$ a lighter flywheel.
Woah! thanks for the quick reply. i was just expecting instructions on how to disconnect the ac lines and small things like that. Trying to clean up the bay in my mk4 jetta 1.8t :p
+Mickdoodle well to remove the ac lines you need to take it to a shop for them to remove the refrigerant. then you can just cut them out if your never going to reuse them.
Trying to get my engine back in so mainly like the boost control valve lines, coolant, power steering, and i think the gas lines that go to the injector part i have no other help
+icemandos sorry for the late response the first lift point is the hole where the engine code is located on the left side and the second life point i use is the tranny mount. i use the bolts and push them through the chain life and screw them into the mount.
PincheALs Garage i just need to move the harness enough to pull the engine and swap it, thats my biggest concern when i go to do my engine swap, everything else im comfortable with...
If I'm running stock rods with 550cc injectors, what psi would you recommend? Trying to get in the 300 range but want to be safe too. I have money to afford rods, but I'm afraid I may do something wrong.
+Quinten Bender well get a manual boost controller and a quality boost gauge. try to keep it in the 20 to 23psi range. i also suggest to do a dyno run to see what the car is actually making. depending where you live based on elevation your car can actually make less hp with the same psi.
Yes but you 1.8t in an audi has less power to 160 to 170hp. Only other issue i see with the swap will be transmission. Since i never dont it I really dont know if the trans will bolt up to it.
PincheAls Garage I just blew my 1.8t in the golf yeah I’m mad lol. But I can get a 00 Audi A4 1.8t cheap. Just wondering if the motor mounts would match. Don’t wanna make it a hard swap more like east no customization

Yup

Do you have a video on how to remove the harness?
How did you discharge the AC SYSYTEM?
In the discretion that's all the tools you need to remove the whole engine from the car? Because I really need all the tools I'm about to pull one
really appreciate this DIY... Completely helpful
Did I miss the fuel line, coolant, screen was bit? These are the bits I'm not clear on. Basically fluid pissing out.
Bro, i need your advice!! AC compressor!! I am ready to drop the block, but i cant until the AC compressor is unhooked?? I cant get the car to a garage. Im stooped :/
Thanks Al, great vid.
Your welcome
So i have to pull the trans with the motor?

Now my ign coils have no power why would that be
Can this 1.8t build be used for a Audi B6 A4? Since they’re both 1.8t but just vertical
Yes all 1.8T motors are the same internally
Hey did you take your engine harness out or just disconnected everything from the fuel rail
disconnected everything and laid on the right side away from the motor
disconnected everything and laid on the right side away from the motor
+PincheALs Garage okay did that now when you removed the ac line from the "dryer" I believe that's what it's called , I removed it and a hiss of refrigerant came out if that's what it is , how does that save the ac then ?
+PincheALs Garage also if you remove the line from the ac compressor won't that let refrigerant out also ?
+angel flores yes
How did you seperate the engine from the power steering?
Gaghunf just unbolt from the engine. There is a couple 16 or 13mm bolts that hold the lines. Then youll need to drain your power steering lines on the lower left side of the engine. There is a 10mm bolt and youll need a cresent wrench to remove the top hose.
PincheAls Garage Thanks!
Awesome
hope this doesn't sound silly but what is smog
Smog is that dragon from The Hobbit.
Not an engine problem, but my mk4 jetta VR6 Transmission went out.. any suggestions where i can buy another one??
Hit up craigs list and facebook. Pretty cheap trans. $100 to 200 for a 5 speed.
@@PincheALsGarage cool I'll check craigslist! But mine its the 6 speed..
6 speeds run around $400 to 600
Found one for $600! It looks like I need a new clutch as well! Any recommendations on a good clutch?
I like ACT and Exedy clutches. Just an FYI it will be very pricey for a 6 speed one. Make sure you get a new throwout bearing and of you have the extra $$$$$ a lighter flywheel.
1.8t I had a cam belt brake while driving did it bend valves?
jeff cunningham yup sadly
It'd be amazing if you could do this in a lot of detail because I'm undertaking this soon
what am i missing. i can give you more detail if you need it.
Woah! thanks for the quick reply. i was just expecting instructions on how to disconnect the ac lines and small things like that. Trying to clean up the bay in my mk4 jetta 1.8t :p

+PincheALs Garage to be honest you should just come and help me mess with my Jetta 😂
How do you take the harness out
Is there a video for all the tube lines and stuff gor jetta 1.8t
Chris H which lines? Manifold, intercooler?
Trying to get my engine back in so mainly like the boost control valve lines, coolant, power steering, and i think the gas lines that go to the injector part i have no other help
Chris H you can use my SAI delete video to help you delete that. You will need a combi valve blockoff plate too.
Where do you attach the chain for the hoist?
+icemandos sorry for the late response the first lift point is the hole where the engine code is located on the left side and the second life point i use is the tranny mount. i use the bolts and push them through the chain life and screw them into the mount.
do you have a diy of the wire harness removel??
Travis Reich no sorry... that is a very long diy though. i just removed a harness on a mk4 gti took me about 6 hours over 3 days
PincheALs Garage i just need to move the harness enough to pull the engine and swap it, thats my biggest concern when i go to do my engine swap, everything else im comfortable with...
Can a 1.8t Gti engine fit in a Jetta 1.8t???
No. Impossible.
Are these steps the same for the Jetta MK4 1.8t as well?
yes its the same for a jetta 1.8t

+Quinten Bender so i suggest low boost until you do rods.
Are rods a tough job? I have a cherry picker and all the tools necessary, more worried about the actual process of doing the work.
Is this legal in California?
What is? Removing the Engine or swapping the turbo?
Can you swap with a 00 Audi A4 1.8t?
Yes
PincheAls Garage Thanks for the reply. Is it easy? cuz I know the engines r slightly different from the position of the coil packs
Yes but you 1.8t in an audi has less power to 160 to 170hp. Only other issue i see with the swap will be transmission. Since i never dont it I really dont know if the trans will bolt up to it.

PincheAls Garage can u help me find a link for replacement?
How is this a how to?
Not a walk thru at all, you skipped over a lot of info that people like myself would want to see or know but good video.
Haha cherry picker? Or engine hoist. Combi valve? or egr. Engine removal? Or lost vid 😬
