- Steve & I camp out for the night at a "majestic" spot amongst the grass trees up on a mountain somewhere. The beers and whiskey flow freely that evening, and in the morning we set off early through a bunch of awesome trails on our way to a beach camp at Kinkuna. Unfortunately an invisible log jumps onto the trail out of nowhere and we both hit it, with Steve going into a sideways slide before eating dirt on the other side. Damn that was a hard crash, never mind all the experts. We hope Steve is okay! We've been trying to find a little pump that is packable for our mattresses, still looking. The XL chair looks really comfy. Nothing like a good whiskey by the fire, we had a good laugh. We're catching up on comments. Another great video, see you in part 2 🍻

10/10 target fixation, you can watch Steve's head lock on and follow that log, could probably have gone straight over it if he was off the brakes. Lucky it was a fairly chill crash :-)
If that log was suspended on my side as well I'd probably have ended up on the pile 😁
Just lack of experience to hit that hard under brakes sideways, had to wash speed like he did but let go and straighten up for the hit

That stack of Steve's looked nasty. Storms over the last year or so have really taken a toll on the roads through the Aramara - Wongai area and I see that log bridge has lost a few logs. I haven't been through that area for a few years. Good stuff guys 👍🏾

Ouch! That was a heaping pile of sh*t for lunch. Looked like the rear brake slide did the opposite of squaring him up to that trouble maker. Nice to see him ride away at least.

Any idea how it could have been prevented? Seems like he locked up the rear, causing him to go sideways and hit it at an even worse angle?
So maybe brake as hard as possible, and just before hitting the log get on the gas to release pressure on the front to make it easier to pop over?
My observation- first off these guys are really good, and I am NOT. :) These bikes are heavy, it's hard to keep them upright. He nearly spilled it several times in the ride because of the weight tipping. These bikes are powerful, the rear wheel ripped and slipped multiple times on the ride causing him to tip and nearly spill. Coming up to the tree, he was going too fast. Several times in the video he "shut it down" locked up the tires into a skid because of an unplanned obstacle. Each time he did manage to execute a save. He was standing just before the crash. He panicked, sat down and scrubbed off speed right before hitting the tree. All the wrong moves combined. If he would have stayed standing, maintained speed and rode over as he was doing before, he likely would have crossed the log and maybe bucked the rear wheel. Not that I would have or could have done what I just said.
Yeah we think he would have had a lot better chance at staying on if he'd just hit it straight on, but as I mentioned we only saw the damn thing last second and hit the panic button 😬 Lessons learned, hopefully 🍻

That was stupid crash - breaking compressed the front susspension making it stiffer and less able to absorb the log. That log was small - all you had to do is just really stand up and add some gas. Did you go to any offroad riding training before?
Was bigger than it looked in the footage mate, as with most things on GoPro. That's why I never film my schlong with it 😉
Agreed on the go pro, but.. he ain't wrong. Panic braking never turns out well. He could have just squared up as much as possible and rode over it The bike was capable Glad he's ok.
