    That's my Sunday fix complete and agree it is so satisfying when all good and equally frustrating when things go wrong, oooooh for the love of our water babies. Mine are greedy pigs too lol. The Koi look gorgeous in all the tanks & main pond Adam. Wondering if you can rescue those abandoned Koi, would make the late owner pleased. Stay well & safe.

      Thanks Glad you liked the videos, it wont be the last time that abandoned pond makes an appearance im hoping they will get an estate agent to sell the house then i can contact them and ask them if i can clear the pond out but we will see what happens although the last thing i need is more fish 🙂

    Just curious, how much space does each Koi need? ... I used to have a Pond, that I now know was too small really, with goldfish and 2 Koi that I rescued from an aquatic shop. One was consistently bumping into the sides of the shop pen, and the other kept tipping over and floating upside down. I saw the shop scoop them out and put them in a dry bucket. They said it was the kindest thing for them. I begged to have them, so they were bagged for me, while I was told I can't eat them, and I'm stupid for wanting them - I paid £6 for them, because they didn't want me to take them for free, which annoyed me, but I did it because I just wanted to give them a chance. I isolated them in a temporary pool, and the rolling over one, I massaged it, while trying to find a vet. I Had no idea what I was doing, but thought it might be a swim bladder issue, and the 4 vets I called had no Fish experience, although one gave me some antibiotics. And after an hour's massaging them both, they seemed to improve, I fed them, treated them, and 14 days later they were like any normal Koi, except Oberon still occasionally went into things. 25 days later, I moved them into the main pond. The worst one, we called Puck was such a cool character. He could do tricks, both liked to run themselves over your fingers, and liked their snouts and heads rubbed. They'd even come to signals. Lol. Gosh we loved them. They came to us a couple inches long, and over the years they grew huge. Oberon was 32.8cm around his middle, a week before he died! ☺ We knew our Pond was really too small but they seemed to do well, and kept growing, so we began to discuss how to extend the Pond for Puck and Oberon. Sadly, someone knew we did rescue and rehab work, and the RSPCA had recently sent me into a dog fighting place to get out some animals, and somehow we were traced, we think by them. They broke into our garden, vandalised our garage, tipped Battery Acid, and another corrosive acid into our Pond, and a damaged Car Battery with all identifying marks removed, and killed the lot. The Police never caught the culprits, but our grainy CCTV footage showed 2 people doing it. We were so heart broken, we buried all our 12 fish (all had names, and we could identify them individually), with our beloved Puck and Oberon, in tears, stripped out the liners, and didn't restart the Pond. That was over 15 years ago....... But, lately, I've been thinking about restarting a Pond again, because I really do miss Puck & Oberon deeply. Who'd have thought these magnificent animals, could leave such a big hole in your Heart. ....... So, I'm just wondering..... how much space/Litres are needed to keep 2 or 3 Koi, all their life, from young (I can't afford full grown adults, and its good to watch them grow), and a few Goldfish? ☺ Thanks in advance. ☺

    Hi Adam. I am a long time subscriber and I have always wondered why you don't use any plants or algae scrubbers, resembling an aquaponics system, to scrub nitrates out of the water? I mostly keep larger tropical fish but I always put some sort of bed in either a sump or suspended and put a few plants in there. It does wonders for balancing the water out chemically, removing nitrates, and you even get big plants. With koi this size you could no doubt grow entire fruiting plants like tomatoes or peppers, all whilst cleaning the water.

    • @AdamJulyan
      @AdamJulyan  3 года назад +1

      Thanks 🙂 I can't have the plants in the pond the fish would destroy them pretty fast but I don't have any issue with Nitrate its very minimal in all of my ponds mostly becasue of the filter media I use and I keep a good fresh water circulation. I do use a lot of the water to keep my plants and garden watered and it all does grow like crazy this time of year i can cut the grass daily and all the plants grow like mad its great but that's using the waste water from the pond it does not re circulate.

    Your a natural so pretty much any topic is good on the ears ... the topic of the day for many koi keepers this year has been parasites and mainly battling flukes....lots of people are trialling Flukesolve Pluswhich is new on the market. Koi can live with a certain amount of parasites and control themselves to a certain extend (as every single pond will have some parasites) ... so many videos out there throwing in treatments left right and centre. On a another topic, many of youtube videoers seem to be either upgrading their pond or swithing to drum filters. That would be an interesting topic if you could go through options out there. As an owner of a large multibay i'm still occasionally battling with trich which i'm guessing drum filters eliminate. Be well mate, your doing a cracking job
