    I am always amazed when I watch your videos and see how many koi you keep in each of your ponds/tanks. By most standards/recommendations made by many so called professional koi keepers your tanks are way over stocked but you obviously know exactly what you are doing and the koi look great. So sorry you did loose a few though, unfortunately it happens to all of us from time to time. Looking forward to seeing what you do with the new tank. Cheers.

    Great to see you back. I’ve been keeping fish for 45 years and it’s never nice to lose stock suddenly so I can empathise with you. As for filtration I’m a big believer in keeping it as simple as possible. I’ve never been keen on fluidised beds or skimming and always gone back to gravity fed alfagrog media beds with a good layer of mechanical pre filters that can easily be stripped out and cleaned off and then chucked back in. Simple filters partnered with high turnover are the cheapest, most effective and reliable filters in my opinion. Merry Christmas mate. Get some more videos out 👍🏻❤️

    So glad to see a new update. Glad to see all is well. Sorry to hear about your loss earlier though. I've heard that happens, and you never figure out why. I personally think it's just part of fish keeping. Who actually really knows what each fish's immune system can handle. I think some are just weaker, from birth, than others. Same for humans, and other living creatures for that matter. Hope you had a Merry Christmas, and wish you a Happy New Year. Wishing you all the best in 2024. 🎉🎇❤️

    Nice to see you back Adam. Not nice losing fish but so frustrating when you don’t have a clue why. This seems quite a come thing this year with lots of people losing stock with no clue as to why. I personally think it’s something to do with the water supply. As you done a big clean and drain down and had to refill with fresh water. I’m convinced that something extra is in the water that we are not being told and it’s affecting the fish. Anyway. Great looking new tank look forward to seeing that one come together

      Thanks 🙂
      yeah i have no idea if draining all the water was a good move or not they did seam happier to start with then a few days later the first fish died but i also salted it one of the thoughts i had was that the salt has reacted with something in the tap water as it was like they where being poisoned but took 6 weeks for first to last death and they deteriorated in hours.

    It’s interesting about the wheatgerm, one wholesaler says their fish get large bellies from it. Which is confusing when you’re trying to decide what food to use. I guess once your pond gets out of balance you’re more likely to get problems. I wonder if it’s air circulation around the heat pump that’s the problem. Interesting video as usual 👍.

    • @AdamJulyan
      @AdamJulyan  10 месяцев назад

      Ive not fed wheatgerm in years so ill keep an eye out for any adverse affects.
      Thats a good point it might be a little better if there was more air gap.
      Thanks 🙂

    Hi mate how much does it cost to run the pool heater on the fish out side

    • @AdamJulyan
      @AdamJulyan  10 месяцев назад

      it varies so much and i adjust the temperature of the pond to the weather so it doesn't work too hard in cold and bring it up a bit when warm and cheaper to do so. in the winter id say average is usually £1 per day

  • @ItsWhatIDo
    @ItsWhatIDo 10 месяцев назад +1

    It's horrible to lose fish and not understand why. In reality we often lose fish without knowing for sure what the reason is but we have an educated guess. It's not having a clue that really hurts. I've been there so I understand your pain. That EZ pond you have looks like it will be a good set up. A friend of mine has a large one for his main pond and once you trim them up they look great. If you are looking to get rid of those tanks give me a shout. I'm looking to rebuild my pond next year and may need to get some tanks for my fish while I do it.

    • @AdamJulyan
      @AdamJulyan  10 месяцев назад +1

      That's defiantly been the worst thing about it not knowing what i can do to prevent it again.
      I'll never sell them i know what I'm like ill just end up with more fish and need the extra tank space lol

  • @ShmoogleOsukami
    @ShmoogleOsukami 10 месяцев назад

    It's always dreadful losing fish and not having the slightest clue why. Tis why I have a massive pond filter running my 350L tank, I'd sooner go overkill on filtration than ever have issues with water quality but even that isn't enough to prevent deaths sometimes.. I think most of my fish die due to previous issues during their lives catching up with them, most being second hand fish no idea how they've been kept before getting them. Lost 2 this year, one had a catastrophic stroke I think, happened right in front of me, the other just sudden turned for the worst and gave up.
    Worst part.. that I hate the most.. is taken them out and 'putting them down' as it were, cause you know they are suffering and there isn't anything you can do to fix erm cause it's just to far gone.

    • @AdamJulyan
      @AdamJulyan  10 месяцев назад

      Yes thats what I like to do all my other ponds have way oversized filters and they are spot on this one does have an oversized filter but only slightly so i think it might be a good idea to add more and a different media type.
      One of the last ones to die actually just had a stroke he could only swim to the left and not very well I put him in the Quarantine tank for a week before i decided to put him down as he wasn't eating any more.

    Could of been eggs spoiling the water and causing wounds to get infected and then passing it on to other koi?

    • @AdamJulyan
      @AdamJulyan  10 месяцев назад +1

      honestly it has broke my brain trying to work it out the only thing i do know is it looked like the koi that died where poisoned as all their organs failed in different and rather shocking ways and quickly i had fish go from happy and eating to dead in hours but some completely fine and it was over a 6 week period from first to last death.

    • @drkempo
      @drkempo 10 месяцев назад

      Sorry for your losses Adam, fingers are crossed that its sorted now, do you sell your koi?

  • @drkempo
    @drkempo 10 месяцев назад

    What salt did you use Adam?

    • @AdamJulyan
      @AdamJulyan  10 месяцев назад +1

      i use PDV salt it's what Ive always used so I'm not sure but it did get way worse after salting so i thought the salt might have reacted with something else in the water but I've no idea.
