May I make a recommendation for another series…. You could call it “The day it all came together” and it would be about 1 time winners in the Cup series.. just an idea.. love these videos!!!
I like it. And honestly, I would also hope to include drivers who had 2-3 wins in total as a Cup Series driver, because some drivers had "day it all came together" kind of wins that already had a win, because their first win was because of how a scoring error worked out, or it was a rain-shortened race. For example, David Reutimann. His first win was the 2009 Coca-Cola 600, but that was a rain-shortened race. However, he scored a much more merit-based win the next year at Chicagoland in 2010, and that felt more like a first win for him.
Ron Hornaday, Jr., "the animal that he is" - Matt Kenseth. Truck Series Beast but another in the long line of drivers that either didn't get a full-time Cup shot at all or got one in garbage equipment. Funny you uploaded this, I just snagged a Ron Hornaday, Jr. 1/64 Racing Champions die-cast for my collection. That 14 car wasn't great, but it did have some good runs here in there in 2000, 2001, and 2002 with several different drivers in the Conseco-sponsored car, and is a good indicator of that era.
Ron Hornaday was one of those guys I always say that if he had better equipment in the Cup Series, he would've done wonders as a Cup Series competitor. I could've easily seen him be the first driver in NASCAR history to win both a Truck Series and Cup Series Championship.
Ron was a better and more accomplished racer than Waltrip and probably would have had better cup results. Michael was only a winning contender at restrictor plate tracks. Hornaday deserved at least another year in the Busch series if not in Winston Cup with DEI. The reason Michael was chosen for the Cup car was because Michael was a better salesman for NAPA.
It's crazy how successful Ron was in multiple series, but no one ever gave him a top level shot in Cup. 2001 was the only full time season, and Foyt's team wasn't exactly great. I'm not sure what it was about the trucks he preferred, but he sure knew what he was doing behind the wheel of one.
Going back to Hornaday's time at DEI, Dale actually was seriously considering putting him in the 15 car but chose Waltrip instead. Many fans at the time thought Dale shoulda chose Hornaday. Looking back at it, they're probably right. I woulda liked seeing Hornaday in that ride, he probably would have won a couple races too
That is true. It even looked like his car that he drove in the Busch Series in 2001. But Dale didn't let his driver down, in fact he was the one that told A.J. to hire Hornaday. Dale would always do that for drivers who needed that big break.

This is a great idea!! Would be a lot of fun!
Terrific idea!
I love that idea.

That’s a great point!
It's crazy that there were 5 first time winners in 2001 and there could have easily been about 4 more
What an awesome era!
Even though he wasn't as successful in the highest level, he'll always be a legend in the Truck Series.
Shoot, he was also pretty darn good in the Xfinity Series. I remember him being a championship contender all the way to the last race in 2003.

I grew up watching him at Saugus Speedway back in the 80's and early 90's. It's great to have watched his success in racing over the years.

The same can be said for Todd bodine
Imagine Hornaday driving the #15 in 2001

That better salesman line just gran slammed

I’ve always wondered what he could have done with the same amount of time in the DEI 15 as Waltrip had.
Would love to see this series continue! Kevin Lepage (Texas 2000) is one I'd like to see covered.
That’s a great idea!

@evanwilliams6406 Huh at least he didn't leave Hornaday out to dry
Request rich bickle
He’s on the list for sure!
LFG!
Truck GOAT
What’s the intro music? If you don’t mind me asking
It’s a song called “Never Know” by my band Zeffler
But the guy was near unbeatable in the Craftsman Truck Series
