Gameplay of Killzone 2 at 4K 60 FPS with recent graphical improvements from kd-11.
The goal of this video is to show the visual/gameplay improvements that the RPCS3 emulator can bring to PS3 exclusives when performance and CPU optimizations aren’t an issue.
The gameplay footage was recorded/played in slow-motion and then the video was sped up in post-production.

I'm still amazed at how well Killzone 2 still holds up to this day visually. Looks even better on RPCS3!

the base game running on a ps3 is lame. it was called nex-gen showcase when resistance 2, from the same year, had way better graphics
@@marcosladarense no way resistance 2 had better graphics. I love both games but that is far from the truth.
@@marcosladarense Killzone 2 was in another league of graphics compared to Resistance 2. Resistance 3 was a major improvement, but still not up to par with what Guerrilla pulled off. Check out the DF Retro video for Killzone 2

I absolutely loved how the enemies (helghast ?) reacted in Killzone 2 (and 3), reminded me a lot of Half Life 2 and FEAR. and the game looked phenomenal back in the day. Very few games have achieved the same. So great we can play it on PC.
It's beautiful. Killzone like it or not stands with the rest in terms of sheer design, such a well crafted game. It kills me how Sony forget it exists.
Unfortunately everyone only really cared about COD and voted with their wallets, I boycotted every COD.
Now we rarely get any orginal fps games the last good one was Prey 2017.

This game absolutely needs a remake
just played the first level for like 45 minutes with mods and the lowest i was getting in busy areas was around 15fps and in empty hallways i was getting a little over 30fps. reminds how I use to play games when I was a kid and I didnt have high end PC XD Keep up the great work! I would love to play this at a good 60 fps for my first playthrough!!

Killzone 2 & 3 with some nice texture improvements remastered for PC would be epic. Shame the emulation version is incredibly difficult to run

What actual speeds do you get, out of curiosity? It runs at 30fps most of the time on my machine. Rarely does it go below 10. My CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3800X 3.9Ghz (overclocked to 4.1Ghz).
10-15 FPS at best and that's only 720p, at 4K it's down to 7 fps.

@Victor Hugo Alvarez Damasceno - #SINGER I forgot what I did tbh. Somehow my CPU speed got capped at 700Mhz one day, and I couldn't get anything done with my computer. So I changed something in the registry key to stop it, and now it won't run under 4Ghz according to the task manager.
@@Aeroshogun did you ever check out the power management settings on your system? mine gets pinned pretty low too, and it happens when windows changes my power plan. changing back to the ryzen one fixes it; annoying, but just a few clicks. took me months to figure it out
I played the game till the very last level. FPS drops to 7 to 10 fps at times. The last level has too many enemies that we simply cant manage with such a low frame rate. I have a ryzen 3700x, 16gb ram and gtx 1080ti
Man I just wanna play Killzone 2 & and 3 again. I loved the campaigns, grew up playing them. I wouldn't be able to stand playing this on the emulator with 10-15 FPS. 😔

Looks phenomenal! Were any effects disabled in order to scale the resolution? Also, for some reason it sounds like the audio gets really quiet when you're looking directly at something (like on the landing craft @ 0:22 and the guy @ 1:37).
For resolution, no. The sound is most likely emulation inaccuracies.

I get access violation error instantly when trying to launch Killzone 2 on latest RPCS 3.
How u get 60 fps with a gtx 1060 at 4k? When i see other videos people with rtx 3080 having 45-60 fps

if i disable anti aliasing my game freezes in the loading screen i am using the us version the result was also same in eu version , bt with anti aliasing auto i can play with low fps, how to disable anti aliasing without game freezing in the loading screen as i heard it give good fps boost, my specs are i7 10700, rtx 2060 super, 16gb ram, 156 gb ssd, pls help sir

Could you have a go at a model swap patch? maybe swap radec with visari in his boss fight and a patch to swap sev and rico with visari and radec and play the game in reverse XD

This game was a blast on 30, 60 though looks like a completely different game. The difference is shocking. No matter what i do it hovers between 38 - 25 fps regardless of the resolution i use, which is a first for me.

I've got my hands on an PS3 from a friend and started playing this gem that never could (didn't have a ps3 on highschool, just my PC).
I was surprised how well this game holds up. Been playing on a 55' 4k tv and even if it's rendered at 720p, it's still looks and plays great.
If Sony someday makes a remaster of KZ2 and KZ3 on the ps5 with 4k resolution and some controls update (L2 for aiming instead of R3 for example) this game would kill it.

How did you get the precise camera controls? Are you using KBM or controller?

I tried to give this game a shot, seemingly its very playable. However there are persistant wireframe overlays everywhere that get smeared up with the action.. Anyone know something about this? Am using an RX5700xt GPU, Color Buffers enabled, and also tried this patch to see if it would fix anything.

I bought the Kilzzone trilogy for PS3 and I beat the first one, but I'm waiting for this emu version to run well so I can play it at 1440 60FPS!!! You think that's possible soon??
30 fps+ yes once the main graphics developer fixes the long texture upload times issue which causes extremely low performance on some games including the Killzone titles. github.com/RPCS3/rpcs3/issues/8294

Damn, Killzone 2 in 60fps feels funny, in a good way. Emulation is the real path to preservation for games not many care about🙏🗿

What is the significance of it not being recorded in real time? Does it not run at 60FPS playing in real time?
I slowed the emulator down to 1/10 of real-time and speed it back up in post to create these videos. Speed will differ depending on what the lowest fps are for different games.

It's not 60 fps while playing , check the description.
It’s less than 60fps. If you watch closely, the audio isn’t synced. The uploader edited the video so that it appears in 60fps.
Please make a video showcasing the best settings for running Toy Story 3 on RCPS3. Im dying to play that game on the emulator but there is flickering and no anti aliasing.

Its not recordered in real time so its not really 60fps. But the settings are on screen near the start of the video.

@@illusion0001 are these mods the patches availabke through RPCS3 application or you gotta get them separately from a third website?
Now we just need a mouse injector program so mouse input is possible.
You can bind joystick to mouse in the emulator pad settings but I don't expect the results to be great.

@@illusion0001 Its something but in my experience it is a step backwards from just using a controller.
For anyone thats interested, mouse injection with emulation is pretty rare. Games that have it are: Goldeneye 64, Perfect Dark, Turok 3, Turok Rage Wars, TimeSplitters 2 & 3, and maybe others that I don't know of.
The result of running this software is that you get to play these emulated games with close to native feeling mouse implementation. Almost as if the game came out on the PC with mouse support.
@@R3lik101 this isn't what you want but one one those weird mouse and keyboard things meant for consoles would probably work. There weren't many made and were kinda marketed as a way to get an upper hand or something. but you'd be stuck with that mouse and kb
@@3hited Like XIM? Yeah i know what you mean. I haven't ever used one but my best guess is that it wouldn't feel like native mouse movement because its sending inputs as a PS3 controller. The mouse experience between games can be vastly different in quality because each game has different analog stick code and its probably impossible for these devices to figure out the best way to maneuver past controller code that doesn't translate well into the mouse input. With mouse injection, you are hacking the game and manipulating the camera through external script. That way you can control the camera any way you want, including mapping camera movement straight to the mouse(no middle man).
Make the fov zoomed out a bit and it will look better

It looks much more generic, like any other shooter with increased fov. I prefer the original look by a huge margin.

It's funny how increased resolution and fov works against game's aestetics and overall look. Something is missing like this.
