    that's all my mum could afford back in the 70's, i wore these for school and for everything else, walking, camping, horse riding, working on the farm, swimming in the rivers, i gave them hell, and had the sole restitched, just bought some for my motorbike, i hope there has good as the 70's ones.

    Great review I have just purchased a pair because my work boots died. I have always wanted a pair and learned a lot from your videos. You remind of a younger version of Robert Elms who also is a fan of monkey boots as well.

    This is a cracking review, cheers👍
    I had a pair in 70 or 71 when I was 12 or 13.
    They were more comfortable than the DM's I later got and about an 1/8th of price.

    I really like my Dr.Martens Church Monkey boots. They are not made in England, but are still of a great quality. The leather is soft and they become REALLY comfortable after 5 times of wearing them.

    Grafters are manufactured in India.
    If you can tell me where to find ones made in the Cheque Rep please do as the Indian ones are narrow. NOT WIDE

    I wore the Nana’s all through the 90’s and on up. I’m getting a Pair of Grafters black..thanks! Great review! 😊

      Yes! I had the NaNa's too! Docs were most popular at the time for the alt crowd but I prefered to be a bit different so instead I wore Monkey Boots and London Underground Creepers!

      Same for me in the late 80's. Nana black amd Nana boack suede. I loved those! I'd spray them with rubbing alcohol to get that deep black color back. God I miss those. Just got some Grafters today. They are indeed stiff!

    Nike bought them in 2003. Had a pair of Converse as a kid. Being in Minnesota my comment about the Monkey boots, they would be good in the snow! (or not) I wear hiking boots in the winter. I'll look for them in the stores. My best footwear are Redwing work boots, with steel toes. The company I worked for paid for them. $200. Last forever and very comfortable and made in the USA about 90 minutes from my house.

      I hear great things about red Wings, in winter here I wear a pair of German police motorcycle boots which a friend gave me years ago and are superb

    Better than DMs. The most comfortable boots I've worn. Currently have 3 (black, brown, tan suede). Getting a pair of wine coloured next week.

    Great video. I've been buying converse all stars for a couple of years and my last pair the sole separated from the uppers after 6 months too. I stuck them back together with gorilla glue a few months back and they're like new again. These boots look interesting though.

    I had a pair of monkey boots when I was 15.. I thought about getting my son a pair who is now 17.. they are very cool... like them battered up like your original pair.. I have skinny feet like my son, I'm sure I remember them fitting my feet much better than my DM'S that I had later on... x

    Good and fair review. I got my grafters resoled with a Vibram wedge sole 👍but it was the same price as a new pair, so ya pays ya money and takes ya chance.

    I wore a pair of Monkey Boots back in 1971 in Blue and wire them on my Outward Bound course at the Moray Sea School hiking in the Cairngorm mountains etc and they really stood up to those conditions. I had forgotten all about Monkey Boots until now, so yes I am going to buy some Blue ones.

      I remember wearing a black and white checked Ben Sherman with them and and a Harrington.
      A few years ago I bought some Fred Perry shirts, a new Harrington and a pair of Flemings jeans which had been in fashion 50 years ago.
      But after a few months I decided I looked a right pillock and got rid 😄
      I still like those monkey boots though.
      Mine were the oxblood colour with round a round toe box.Some of the other kids had one with a square toebox.

    • @babyvanta

      They’re made by Solovair. Owned a pair for two years and they still look new, definitely worth the investment. The quality of the boots not produced in England pitifully pale in comparison to the England boots.

  • @ladyeclectic

    These look SO similar to my Dr. Martens Church Monkey boots, as if the same exact design. Who started with this design?

    • @Molach101
      @Molach101 2 года назад

      These, as far as I know, are the original monkey boots. They were Czech army boots from WW2 and the Grafters are still Czech made. Dr. Martens and Solovair and other companies now make very nice, higher-end monkey boots because they became so popular in the UK.

      @@OliverPickard Cool. And when you say that the cardboard toe cap can collapse, would you say that ruins them for wearing or is it just an aesthetic problem?
      Wonder if you can replace that cap.

    • @OliverPickard
      @OliverPickard  4 года назад

      It's just esthetic my old pair are still going strong and extremely comfortable. if you use leather dubbin on them from new as I have with my new pair the toe cap will last as long as the sole does and then you can have them re-soled
