Thank you for the great information - very much appreciated !!!
Glad it was helpful!
Ty for another informative video! I've rly been enjoying your content~ I also heard about the light rail system that the city is planning on building!
Fantastic advice loved this video
This is priceless info. Using a motorbike looks very fun, but after experiencing Thai traffic, city and country, I would be paralyzed with fear to drive anywhere there.
Thank you for this awesome information...we are visiting in June for the first time and this video is so great. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Great information. I will make sure I choose my rental condo in a location with things nearby.
Thumbs up 👍
Thanks 👍
I'm a Bangkokian who has a house in Chiang Mai. The city has a subway project as well as a new airport project in the pipeline. The subway project is still in its infancy and it will be many, many years from now for Chiang Mai to see it. The city needs this project because its population is growing fast as the traffic gets worse. The new airport project will materialize much sooner and it is reported that the new airport will be situated in San Khampaeng District, to the west or northwest of the Square. It will be quite far away from the city center. Chiang Mai desperately needs a new airport because the one it has now is way too small and is almost in the middle of the city (not to mention that it has to share some facilities with the Air Force's Wing 41). More importantly, when the new airport is open, people living in Muang and Hang Dong Districts (and some neighboring districts) would be much, much less bothered by the noise pollution caused by airplanes taking off or landing.
Great info!!!
@@TheNarrowGate There is an error in my comment about the site of the new airport. San Khampaeng District is actually to the southeast of the city center. Sorry about that.
Great video !
Keep the good job !
Does Grab/Bolt work at Chiang Mai airport ?
How much cost to go from Chiang Mai airport to Old City ?
Thank you very much !
Thank you and yes. 😊
Tourists ... stay away from bikes and motorbikes ... I know, you young ones think you're immortal, but it really is dangerous ... you'll come here and watch the locals drive their motorcycles and think that their driving looks like there are no rules to follow for motorcycles, but that would be a mistake ... there are lots of unwritten rules, and the 'dangerous' things locals do are well tried & tested maneuvers that the local car and motorcycle drivers are used to and expect ... a young 'farang' who comes here, rents a 500or 750cc motorcycle and thinks that this means they get to weave in and out of traffic from the far left to the far right lane going 200Kph will end up in a very bad situation!
Driving in Chiang Mai you expect the bikes to mostly be in the far-left lane. What you watch out in normal fast flowing traffic is motorcycles while mostly staying in that far-left lane, will at times drift a bit in and out of the lane to the right as needed (obstacles or getting to a right turning lane or u-turn lane) so you need to pay special attention to that lane for potential 'unexpected 'moves by motorcycles both in front and behind you (and they usually don't look, so if you are quickly overtaking a motorcycle in the left lane they many times suddenly decide to use the next lane to the right and drift over without looking and expect you to be ready to slow down to avoid running into them (and if you do, my understanding is that this is your fault, not theirs.)
If the traffic is stopped or very slow then you need to watch all around since motorcycles will 'wiggle' between cars and lanes to work their way to the front of traffic (this is all done very slowly so not much danger of serious harm or damage)
Farang on the other hand seem to be totally unpredictable ... they get here and don't know the 'unwritten' rules and are all over the place at speeds that are not usually expected of motorcycles.
Just to note ... the order of things here are 'motorcycles own the road', then car & trucks, then pedestrians, then soi dogs, cats birds and lizards, and finally bicycles;-)
Thank You for your video. I was wondering how is parking in Chiang Mai ? is it easy to find parking and how does the parking on the street works
Many Thanks
Parking stinks. Never park at the red and white curbs.
I type "The Narrow Gate", and all I can read & spell is "The International Geographic"!!!
🎬📽🥇🥇🥇
Thank you!!!
Hi there, thanks for the great information again. I sent you an email regarding that we like to meet you and your wife. We're in Chiang Mai till the 28th. Is it possible to meet up? Thank you very much and take care!
Sent message to your phone.
It always makes me laugh when Americans are concerned about driving on the other side of the road. We hired a car and I cycled Doi Suthep and the Samoeng loop as well as riding around the city. I found the drivers to be respectful giving me room. Far safer than drivers in Phuket, London or Perth where we live. PS. Have driven stateside and lots of European countries without issue
I had my first drive on "the wrong side of the car/road" in the rush hour downtown back in 2012 in a rental car with manual gear shift. It was no problem at all. What can be a "problem" are when you enter an empty road om the right side just after returning to Thailand. And that the turn signal and window wiper "sticks" also are on the "wrong" side. Something that can make some funny situations when I am back home after driving in Thailand for a month or two. 😝
GRAB IS GREAT! I WOULD NEVER RIDE A BIKE ANYWHERE!!
when arriving in Chiang Mai at airport, does the taxi driver take credit card or cash only ? and is there grab at airport ?
Merci
I’m not sure if they take credit cards but I do know they take cash so I would have that readily available. I would think that grab would work at the airport because they would just drive up and pick you up. It’s not as strict as other parts of Thailand.
do you have any recommendation on car rental in chiang mai?
I have never rented a car here so sadly, no.
I am not able to travel to Thailand due new regulations . I have to cancel everything… 😭
We have issues now with people coming as well. 😟🥲
Sorry to hear that.
@@TheNarrowGate just canceled Alices team rental search.. 😢

I believe everything happens for a reason. Stay safe guys and be careful. I think this Chinese tourism during this new outbreak time will cause some problems .,
