Oh Lori! What an excellent tutorial! I have a Hoffman panel and can’t wait to quilt it with my Destiny 2! You gave such clear directions…I’ll figure it out!!!🤗😍🥰
I loved the close up look you gave us for this! I've wanted to do this, but I don't have this panel--but I do have another panel I wanted to quilt and this has shown me how to do that! Thank-you! 😍
I’ve been trying to find this type of tutorial for over a month now. So glad I’ve found this- exactly what I want to do with my quilt panel- thanks for clear concise and very understandable directions. I’m a subscriber now- love your technique
Thank you so much for the great instructions. I have the Babylock Altair and this will work I think. I am still learning about the machine and I have a dream big panel, I am very anxious to try. Thanks again!
Lori, thank you so much for this tutorial. I'm going to try this method on my flower panel. Question: How did you baste your quilt sandwich? Thank you.
That drag and release tip was excellent. In addition, your calm manner and detailed instructions are really appreciated. Why do you adjust the stitch length?
So glad my tutorial has been a help! I like to adjust the length purely because of the visual appearance. Try a few different stitch lengths and stitch them out as a sample. Then see which is your favorite. :)
I loved watching this and would love to start. Can you advise me where to begin and what sort of machine you are using. Or general advice for a beginner Thanks
Lori, thank you for this tutorial!! I have several Dream Big panels and now I am able to stitch the petals and make a beautiful quilt like yours. Can you link to Alyssa's? Thanks! Carol
This is just what I've been looking for. Thank you so much. I'm practicing on a baby blanket that has a lot of pink and blue My problem when i do the point to point the out line is pink and I cant see what I'm doing. How do I change the color so I can see what I'm doing Thanks
Gladys, you can’t change the color of the line with the point to point tool. You can play with making your background lighter or darker and see how the appearance is best on the background fabric you are using. :)
Hi Little Mice Dreamer :) Yes you can definitely do this on your Destiny. You will have less fills to choose from but you have the ability to scan in your hoop and use the point to point tool just like I did! Thanks for watching, commenting and liking :) Hope you subscribed
@@lorihernandez9762 Thanks. I just tried to scan the red Dream panel and it appeared on the screen, but I got a message that it was "too complicated". Any suggestions?
@@littleangelbsb I'm guessing you may have chosen an ILLUSTRATION SCAN? That would not be the scan option you want for what you are trying to do. You want an IMAGE SCAN.
Hmm, Mine does lay flat. A few thoughts, make sure not to quilt it too tight within each pattern, meaning not to size quilting pattern small. It could be the combinations of the type of batting you are using as well. I hope that helps. :)
Hi Mary, I don't have a picture of the finished panel. You can pause the video in the beginning to give you a better view of it. I have finished the quilting but intend to create a quilted vest out of the panel so I won't put a binding on it. :)
Hi Lori, Similar to what you are doing with this quilt, I want to add accuquilt appliqués to my finished quilt top. What would you do? Would you attach embroidery appliqués to quilt top and then quilt all over? Or should I quilt on longarm and then do appliqués on my embroidery machine (BabyLock Meridian) through 3 layers and stabilizer?
Hi Debra, I would most likely embroidery my appliques on the top first. I then would create my quilt sandwich, Then quilt my quilt using my scanning capability to place my quilting right where I want it, much like in this tutorial. Keep in mind your thought process for the appliques may be different than what I may imagine how you will do it. When adding texture and dimension to a top, that creates specific cases where you would not want to all over quilt unless you are setting your barriers so the embroidery foot does not stitch over those appliques. I hope this helped.
Love the lesson. but having a problem. Must be a setting. when you choose the point to point you get that line that follows you around. I do not. i get a box, and when clicking i cannot see any line but gives me a straight thick line obscuring anything I might be doing. is there a setting you chose to get the thin line and visibility of what you are doing. I have solaris updated 1 and 2 kits and version 3.06 I can send a pic if you need to explain further
Robyne, my first guess would be your Opacity setting. It's at the top - the fern leafs. Try changing that setting and see if you can see it properly. :)
@@lorihernandez9762 on the video you have a think line that resembles a thread loop. I do not get that at all. when I touch the first part of the point to point I get a box and all i can do is a straight line. no stitching that follows the petal each click makes the line straight but no line to show where I have place any stitch line. non existent. tried darker and zooms and nothing shows. can a post email here ??? I am a seasoned manual digitizer and trying hard to put all that behind me for that
@@robynephillips6263 Robyne, Maybe you have done this, but please start complete over. Step my Step. Go back to your home screen then go back into IQ Designer. I'm not sure exactly what you are doing differently than I. I have my Solaris in for it's yearly cleaning so I can't actually look right now and see if I can guess without my machine in front of me exactly what your may be doing differently. :)
@@lorihernandez9762 I click iq I get through the scan part ok. that was a trick as it kept asking to put the snow man down but got past that setting in the thickness, I click on what type of line I want and click the one looks like lightening, I choose single line , color and ok. I click on the line tool and start to click the first point and that box comes up and does not allow me to trace the petal. called my dealer. and she is going to help figure it out. must be some setting I need to change, but would love to send you a pic of what I mean in case it happens to others
I don't have that machine so don't have the scanning device - can I still do this??? Bought the panels and haven't been able to quilt them yet. Also when you traced the edge of the petal was that with a permanent pen or temporary?
You can definitely do free motion quilting. Drop your feed dog and learn a few quilting designs you are comfortable with creating. Practice first. On my panel it is traced with the stitches I've created within my machine in IQ designer. Thanks for watching and your comment. :)
Hi Lori, I am trying to quilt my dream Big Panel and have several parts done but today when I try to outline the petal it doesn't appear to working. I can't get the line to show up all around the petal and am not doing anything different. Any suggestions?
I would guess possibly you aren't seeing it due to your opacity setting. It's probably there, just adjust the light and darkness on your IQ screen up at the top so you can see it . :)
Lori I am a little confused on one step. I want the outline like you have on yours. But I am not sure how actually got that? I do the first part to trace the outline of my image ok, and then pick my fill, go thru the steps like you did, but when I stitch out I am just getting the fill stitches and not an outline. I am sure it is me the "operator" doing something wrong. Would you be able to explain the step that I am missing? Thank you! I have a Babylock Solaris 2 machine.
For this panel I used Madeira Embroidery threads. A pre-wound Filtec bobbin. You can use your favorite cotton threads also. I’ll be making a vest out of my sample and chose to use embroidery thread for the sheen of the thread.
Lori, when I connect my mouse it is just jumping over the screen and moving so quickly that I can't get it to stop where I want it to. I looked to see if there was a way to control the mouse but only found the button that determines the arrow.. Could it be a problem with my mouse? It works fine on my Mac computer.
I'm sorry this is just my opinion, but I think the black outlines ruined the beauty of the panel. I have just discovered the Dream Big panels, And having so much fun experimenting with designs....But I'm letting the beautiful colors lead me.
Lori... your tutorials are honestly the best! Such detail, super explanations, easy to follow! Thank you so much! Keep them coming!!!

I used a jumbo spool of black Gunold embroidery thread for my outline. I just happened to have that brand in a jumbo spool.
Are you hooping the panel, batting and backing at one time?
Yes Brenda. I hoop the complete quilt sandwich Backing at the bottom, Batting in the middle, Dream Panel on top, :)

Some mouses lol may not be compatible sorry to say. Some of the more expensive models don’t always work.
I did buy a cheap mouse and it is working but I'm having a hard time doing the point to point especially around curves. I'll keep trying. :)
My camera is asking me to use a snow man I notice yours doesn’t. Mine won’t scan without the sticker, do you know why.
You need to go into your settings screen and turn off your fabric thickness option. It will then not ask you for the snowman :)
