I have one of Dave's sets, complete with pots and wiring loom, and I must say it's the best I have ever heard. It sounds so close to a real Burst set, I'm not sure if I could tell the difference with my eyes closed... Absolutely killer set.
Sounds incredible as usual Dave, you can't rush this kind of workmanship for sure, your attention to detail and your incredible knowledge to me seem unsurpassed and your work speaks for itself . Unfortunate for you to deal with impatient and unreasonable customers. I wish you all the best my friend. Always look forward to your videos and your correspondence, you've taught and informed me greatly and it really speaks to the amazing guy you are . Have great day Dave
Hello Dave, I am so sorry about your story. If you do not receive feedback from your customer I am happy to buy the pickups. I wish you good health and happy new year!
Thanks for the nice comment. It seems like at my age I keep having these annoying little skin cancers, infections, the cataracts, needing more sleep like an old Granpa, which I AM, and it interferes with work more often than not. Lets see if he responds, sent him the link to the video. Stay tuned.
Pretty sad my art table is stacked with junk these days. I just heard about a new expensive ink from Platinum thats deep deep black and water proof, but something you shouldn't keep in a fountain pen for very long as it will clog your pen.
@@SDPickups I'll drop you an e mail. I really enjoyed talking with you. Sorry I fell out of touch. This past year was a big year for me. My daughter graduated high school and we had so much to do. She's off to college now, so I am kind of settling back into my own things!
Oh, I vaguely remember you and I talking cartoon art, inks etc. The art on the wall is vintage original art, couple from Elwood Smith of Pushpin Studios fame, one from a cartoonist who wrote one of the really great how to books on cartooning a long time ago. Plus some pen nibs. I collected a few cartoon strip originals for awhile too. I have a huge collection of correspondent cartooning courses and how- to books going way back to the 1900's and even before that. sadly my eyes are pretty bad now, bad neck problems and haven't done any real art for a few years now. Sometimes I think I'll sell all of it, but then I'll start looking thru them and just enjoying them so much, I decide to keep them. Just hope I don't die and it all ends up at goodwill or some place they have no idea what it all is and ends up thrown out in the garbage.
@@SDPickups Definitely keep them. Those are yours to enjoy. They'll inspire, bring back memories, and give you some fun. I am really sorry about your eyes and neck. You draw great and sound excellent on guitar. I'll drop you an e mail and say hi!
Thanks. I wasn't really feeling it this time, stressing on getting some playing that didn't suck, its like stage fright in front of the camera some times, but thanks for the comment ;-)
Dave , these sound superb !! I love my 1920 set ! Anybody listening that doesn’t want to try these …….consider me next in line Dave if you have trouble with the next in line I’ll find another guitar and take them . I’ll keep a watch and be ready when you are hopefully
I finally heard from the guy, he left for 3 weeks, without telling me. I finished all the harness and packing them up tonight, and let him know if he doesn't want them, I have a bunch of guys who will take them off his hands right away. So, I have to wait to see if he's finally going to send me his shipping address. Most likely he'll take them, but we'll see.
Hey Dave ! That tone sounds right . I've been posting links to your channel on videos that talk about tone wood and hardly anything about the electronics and hardware . I believe still , as a 43 year old guitar player who has played since I was 15 . 90% of the sound of solidbody guitar is the hardware and electronics . Because of your video I switched a lot of my Gibson hardware for Faber . Dave , you wouldn't believe the P.O.S. bridge that comes on the 2019 60th Anniversary 1959 Gibson Les Paul . The screw that holds the saddle don't sit in the slots . So it pushes the set screw up to the string . I've tried pushing it down but haven't had any luck . Once I get the money that is being changed . Pretty sad for a $6k guitar to come with cheap hardware . Love the videos ! Hope all is well . Happy New Year !
Thanks. OH YES, I would believe it. Originally this customer was going to send me his CC LP to check out and I was going to do his set a little faster so I could see what these guitars actually are. Customers have told me the CC's are inconsistently bad or good, its a crap shoot. I did pickups and hardware for Stan Webb of Chicken Shack's CC Les Paul and he was blown away. I don't think any of the LP's being made today are any better, they are so overpriced and in the end you still have to replace the pickups, harness and all hardware to get decent playability and sound. Why even bother? Go buy an older beat up model, and change the stuff OUT. Save a ton of money and get better sound. Or get a Japanese model like this Elitist is and do the same thing. The 2002 era Elitists have real Brazilian fretboards that make a huge difference compared to the cheap Indian Rosewood they are using now, much duller sounds.
Yeah, its so cool when that kind of stuff pops up. I have our Four Uncles bridge in this LP and I think those sounds are partly coming from that bridge. Its the only true vintage ABR1 replica being made in the entire world. Not mass produced, a bit expensive but not many are being made because they take 6 hours or more just to make ONE. Magical.
@@SDPickups I bought one but haven’t installed it yet. It’s a backup for my original that’s still holding up. I’m assuming with being such exact copies they’re also prone to sag under heavier strings? I use 8’s so don’t think it will happen but I am curious.
Dave. I love your pickups and dream of playing it one day. Im on the process of building my 59 replica. What do you think the most accurate vintage aluminum tailpiece replica and studs these day?
There aren't any accurrate ones yet. I like the Kluson ones, they are a bit brighter than vintage but very affordable and sound good for me. Faber makes one thats a little darker sounding, Gotoh makes a horribly dark sounding one. 4 Uncles wants to make one but a mold costs well over ten thousand dollars, very expensive to make one. Not anytime soon.
I don't know yet, I emailed him one last email with link to the demo. He paid for them, makes no sense to be bashing me when I was actually building his set based on the date he paid, so it WAS his time to get them, just took longer than wanted to. I want him to have them, but its up to him, just hope he will reply and watch the video. If he has vanished then I'll let everyone know they'll be available. Thanks.
Hey Dave, I'm wondering how long it will take to buy a set of your HD PAF'S? I'm not sure what model specifically but I have a 59' reissue, so probably a 59 model set. Please hit me back if you can
Unfortunately for now I am only selling the NOS wire sets that are very expensive. I have too many old orders to fulfull and will take more than a year to finish all those, so have stopped taking orders for my regular sets for now. I HATE that I am in this position and its always hanging over my head, but I am just one guy, making all my own covers and parts so all my sets take weeks to make, sorry.
I don't know what micro tonal means? Thats one of my 6 Epiphone Elitists made in Japan. Frets are vintage height I think, not big so you have to have a good grip when bending. These are amazing guitars better than Gibson in most ways. Real Brazilian fretboard, long tenon neck joints, full maple cap, no veneers, Grover tuners, medium thick neck. Replaced harness, hardware and it now has the Four Uncles bridge on it too.
Will have to look up what he paid, was around $2650. These are the most difficult of sets to make, the wire is almost 100 years old and super super rare. I'll wait to see if he responds first.....
Great playing and tone thank you!

If those were my pickups , and I heard them sounding EXACTLY like Paul Kossoff's like that . I'd swim to America from here in the UK to get them !!!!!
