If the unbecoming platform shoes can be quickly edited out, we have an excellent chance of taking this thing viral, despite the unfortunate pronunication of the word knuckle.
I'm afraid that the professor is wrong when he says that the knuckleball isn't possible without its seams as a football and a ping pong ball can be used to produce a knuckleball despite lacking seams.
Definitely. The Jabulani ball from the South Africa World Cup 2010 is very smooth with so little seams, but it is very well known for its knuckleball effect
The dude at the end reminded of Joaquin Phoenix's version of the joker. I was waiting for him be like" you get what you deserve".( baseball through the skull). lol
Basically it’s air resistance on the ball. Kind of like a piece of paper and gown it drops from left to right. How to throw? Hold with fingertips and throw without flicking wrist.
What I've noticed with knuckleballs is that while they may wobble on the way, they almost always break. I'm nothing close to a professional baseball player and really not even a good one, but I would think you could treat it similarly to other breaking balls rather than a pitch that is more about the lateral run with relative success. Just ignore the wobble. I suppose knowing which side it's going to break on is important to know though.
I was sitting here listening and not noticing the nhk logo and wondering where I've heard these voices, and then I remembered: ruclips.net/video/Z926Kky76dQ/видео.html Then I noticed the extremely obvious logo.
How was it possible Professor Zota was not literally beating away swarms of thirsty women with that pimp hat? (My guess is they were just off camera.) 0:46
But the ball doesn't rotate at all when it moves frantically as a knuckleball. on the experiment however they allow the ball to rotate and that's y the air behind it deviates
Hoylt Wheilham, is one of the true Kings of the Knuckleball, met him before he passed back in 1984. Got one of his baseball autographed.. His knuckleball moved like a soccerball in air shifting angles instead of arcing or dropping. He had 3 of them types of pitches..
As shown in the video, the knuckler deceived and confused catchers as much or more than it did batters. Bob Uecker, who had to catch Phil Niekro, said the way to catch a knuckle ball was to let it stop rolling then walk back to pick it up.
This is awesome. I've never been into baseball but I never realized there was an element of fluid dynamics in it... Now I'm interested in baseball. Great analysis and lesson!
Baseball is VERY statistics intensive, more than any other sport I would say. A ton of analysis goes into it from spin rates on pitches to launch angle in batting. If you're a nerd, baseball is your sport.
It would "seem" that the seams have nothing to do with it since soccer balls also move crazy when struck with no spin. So there's something else going on.
It's not that they have "nothing" to do with it, but they aren't the main cause, correct. The lack of spin allows for the unstable motion, whether there are seams or not.
Yeah me too but it was the majors and I was on the Yankees. Me and Jeter used to laugh about it all the time. It was great, but then my hemeroids got too inflamed and I had to retire.
That was my first thought, but one definition in baseball is a breaking ball is any ball thats breaks, and knuckleballs do that so.... fuck. Annoying none the less hahaha.
Sure you can. You better grow up fast then, there are only two major league pitchers who are regular knuckleballers, there's plenty of room for another. If you can throw major league distance, CORRECTLY, with speed and limited spin you will be in for sure. I thought I could throw one when I played A ball too.
Another commentary on our sad country. Asian kids watching news on science of a pitch and wind effects with seams on the ball. American kids learning the science of wind effects thru a bong and the seeds placed there in.
Charlie Brown Asian not pc enough for you? So in what country is the Fukuoka Institute located. Thought Asian captured most people in that part of the world without my trying to guess where exactly someone is from without offending. You're up a little late aren't you? Shortbus for you to catch in the morning. nighty night.
Charlie Brown I am so glad that I was born when I was and not raised in a generation of the easily offended when there is typically no intent to offend. I see you are one of those. And the proof is that instead of you understanding the content of my original message, you picked on something that offended you. I am not glad or sorry if you were offended. The point Linus is that somewhere in this world there is a certain group of people of some descent that are interested in something that a certain group of people in this country and of some descent are not smart enough nor able to comprehend what those other people from another part of the world are doing. See how much easier my first comment was? Oh...sorry there I go again offending people since I assumed you understood sarcasm and that you understood the basis of my first reply. Please forgive me...the person likely not using their real name....dang it....there I go again....
That last dude can't be real. He looks like Billy Ray Cyrus' special needs brother
And sounds a bit like norm macdonald.
dudes a perf lmao

I see Tim Wakefield, can't fool me.
I have somewhat an idea of turbulence now lol
What's the background music at the beginning?
He would be a good host for a blues clues show

Love Japans TV shows.... not what we have in the states lol
@JBryan314 so you prefer what.. big brother or survivor? I'd rather learn myself.
It should be called a finger nail ball
judge judy
Whats up with that dude's hair.
White dude at the end couldn't make it in his home country so he fled to Japan where his awkwardness was found to be... endearing???
Lol 😁
knuck knuck knuck knucklnucknuck
SCIENCE FIGURED IT OUT? BS. SIENCE CAN ONLY EXPLAIN WHAT ALREADY EXISTS, NOTHING MORE
The douche at the end killed it. Phil kneikro was the all time example.
the knuckball lmao😂😂
Ayy lmao
Haha!
i know right? its pronounced knaakubarru
She’s super cute so it doesn’t matter🙂
that killed me
I lived in Japan for ten years. That awkward, annoying white dude at the end is unfortunately a pretty common type there.
It almost seems like they picked the guy based on being an irritating white guy stereotype.
shut you jew.
so painfully true.....
@@nunyabidness117 you are judging him from 2 minutes of his life, go out breathing some fresh air and don't bring social medias with you
@@unoqualunque5484 It's you.. You're the annoying guy aren't you?
Next segment was on the science of the mullet.
This is awesome. Not as thrilling as ESPN science; but way, WAY more informative. I love the Japanese.

The dude at the end reminded of Joaquin Phoenix's version of the joker. I was waiting for him be like" you get what you deserve".( baseball through the skull). lol
Right you are, Ken!
Never thought I'd see an MXC comment, but this made my day!
Definitely an awesome comment!
Thanks for that Babaganoosh.
Called the nuck ball. Lmao
Lmao..4:35, yeah, he made it very awkward, killed me with the little monster hands though... Face included.
Reminded me of Jim Carrey.
THAT HAIR.
So, the physics and reasoning of the knuckle ball is no longer elusive to me but this guy’s personality is - 4:34.
If only ESPN did pieces of this intelligence and intrigue. What a great bit of reporting!
The studio people are hilarious. She says the "knuck-ball". And he thinks it's held with 3 or 4 knuckles. LOL
Here it comes, it's gunna get ya, the claw!
Is the narrator the grandson of the guy that did grade-school science movies back in the '50's and '60's?
Great vid up to 4:35. Learned a lot. Then the gaijin came on. 😫
fuck off weeb
Basically it’s air resistance on the ball. Kind of like a piece of paper and gown it drops from left to right. How to throw? Hold with fingertips and throw without flicking wrist.
Whoa. Did I just accidentally get a Physics degree?

Is that Kenny Powers stunt double?
do they load the ball in the exact same seam orientation into the canon to replicate movement? or just stick the ball in and fire?
I’m more interested in this English language Japanese produced tv show
The narrator sounds like a caffeinated version of Ted Wasanasang from King of the Hill
Everything about this video is so charming
Edit: everything about this video *up to a point*
Teen Wolf at the end! “Little Monster”, she was talking about him!
Best analogy I ever heard was..Hitting a Knuckleball is like trying to hit a Butterfly.
In short,,, you cannot throw a knuck with a tennis ball ... No seams.
The nuck ball ???????
she said the nut ball. why can't they get some that can speak american to be on this?
The narrator sounds like a japanese guy trying to talk with an american accent
Its wrong tho. You can hit a knuckle ball with a complete smooth ball
Didnt take spin into account whatsoever, flawed as fuck
Nokboh

Leave it to the Asians to break baseball down to a science.
And why does the knuckle ball look so weird when it's going out of the stadium.
Charles Crowell lmaooo I got this 😭😭
@@JeanAvant Do you think its possible to throw a epphas knuckleball?
Because you can't throw one

I want to see a 100 mph knuckle ball!
cheesegyoza that would probably look like a wiffle ball
That would be wild. Lol
You won’t see it lol
At least from a pitcher's arm.... Never happen.
4.50 that's not how ya throw knuckle ball
Corey Feldman at the end
He reminded me of Bill Hader.
The white guy with mullet hair ruined a good video at the end.
Basically like a 'swing' in cricket. In or Out swinging deliveries
The guy at the end is 100% Canadian
Not just difficult to hit, throwing it is HARD AS SHIT
This video deserves more likes because it is so informative
Is that Thane Camus? What's with the... wig, I'm hoping?

who the fuck hired the voice over

The hex-and pentagonal portions of a soccer ball can create their own turbulence, if the ball isn't spinning.
The Ugandan knuckleball

I used to throw knuckballs when I was in the minors.
