Yes...beautiful music. A man is dying...thinking back to better days...his. youth...the Timpani beat is his heart beat...the man dies and the transfiguration theme triumphantly comes in..Strauss was very young when he composed this masterpiece. It was a thrill to perform it with my orchestra !
Strauss was just 24 when he wrote this. Envisioning the end of life after long sickness and how the soul will soar into infinity after death.
He also quoted the theme of the transfiguration in his very last work "4 Letzte Lieder" when he knew was actually not that far away from that final journey himself.
Strauss is easily my favorite composer next to Mahler; His orchestration, storytelling, and energy is so far beyond most other post-romantic composers. "Also Sprach Zarathustra" is my all-time favorite piece of music. ever.
Love that you loved it. Thanks Gidi
You should not miss the chance to hear his four last songs! Sublime music!❤
This is one of my favorite pieces. Got to play it this year, truly a spiritual experience. Thanks for reacting :D
Getting to hear your reaction two days in a row! Sublime...
Big love to you as always jim!
@@GIDIREACTS How big?
You'll definitely should listen to Ravel: Introduction & Allegro
I love seeing you enjoying music with your eyes closed at 13:48. I myself realized a few months ago that this is THE way to listen to music. One can immerself oneself completely in the music and focus 100% on the sound of the music if he closes his eyes (though closing his eyes, of course, is not sufficient!)
And as you like tchaikovsky you should try Manfred symphony. And the tempest. Let's enjoy
Sir Georg Solti, the conductor in this video, conducted at Strauss's funeral in 1949. Strauss, who wrote this piece in 1889! Also, might I suggest a composer for you? John Adams, in particular his work "Harmonielehre."
I'm playing this piece with my community orchestra this weekend! (1st trumpet part)
Gidi you need to listen Bortkiewicz, Piano Sonata no.2 and his 3 piano concertos. Its amazing you ll love it.
You need to react to Clara Schumanns Piano concerto, you'll love the second movement I promise
I always note when listening to this work, that John Williams sorta borrowed a bit of it for the love theme ("Can You Read My Mind?") from Superman - The Movie.
Not the best recording, but enjoyable reaction. (Still recommending Ravel Left Hand Concerto. And maybe something less well known: Grofé Grand Canyon Suite)
It's a fantastic interpretation av this piece! The sound quality, while not great, is surprisingly good considering it's a live performance from 1975.
@@Gutterra Agreed...
Second the Grofe!
My first time listening to this performance, I think the brass is too overbearing in some spots and I wish they blended better with the orchestra. Lower strings could be more as well. Other than that a fine performance with beautiful solos!
@@mintchoco5640 Old Orchestra Hall, Chicago did have a tendency to push forward the brass.
Hi Gidi huge fan really enjoy your videos! Please do, if you have time, react to Evening hymn by gardiner, it is an absolutely stunning piece of choral music
Broo pls listen to strauss four last songs it changed my life
Have you tried Debussy's "La Mer" ? :)
