it's about negotiation, he pissed off the UFC with his fake retirement, Dana hates when someone becomes champion and retires he learned with GSP it's for the money, Henry really did fumble the bag
@@josip342 I’m sure the people that work out pay know something numbers wise that justifies 200k. The ufc isn’t really a company known for paying people a lot of money unless it’s somehow justified
Henry Cejudo decided to retire at the peak of his career and while he had the absolute most leverage on his financial situation 😅 and Henry only has himself to blame.
He did it to be there for his kids, which i understand and respect, but he came back to mma a couple years later while they're still kids 😅 so it was a waste to leave in the first place. A father that does nothing but provide everything is a great father. Kids don't remember much through ages 1-7, so cejudo retiring to be there is something cejudo and his wife can appreciate, but the child won't remember. Wish cejudo knew this way back when.
One of the worst comebacks I've ever seen in anything sports or otherwise, nobody was even that excited about him returning just for him to get manhandled by contenders 😭 just go back to coaching Henry it's over
“Manhandled” is such a stretch. I get it, Henry is dumb for doing this, but that’s a poor choice of wording. He came pretty close to beating Aljo and gave Merab a hard time in the first round. That’s not “manhandling”, and both of them are champions now, not just prospects.
Its comparable to basketball wives leaving their husband after retirement...its a mix of gold diggers losing the prestige of being with a professional, nationaly televised athlete...less income comming in...and going from always being appart ( training, traveling etc) to being together ALL DAY.
Much like Khabib, Henry fumbled the bag, but his legacy is solid. Made a public bet with Dana to save the flyweight division, essentially forcing Dana's hand to keep his word. Historical af, the likes of which will never happen again. No other fighter will ever be able to say they saved a whole weight division from being cut from the company. Every ufc flyweight today wouldnt be fighting in the ufc if Henry hadn't done what he did in the fashion that he did it. And the way he broke Moraes and TJ was legendary.
What is more shocking that Dern making more show money than Cejudo at UFC 298 is that Miranda Maverick made the same as Cejudo at the same event. Maverick got 150k to show and win even though she is an unranked flyweight, not as well know as some of the other female fighters, and fought in the early prelims.
Henry ALWAYS deserves respect for his Olympic Gold Medal and for improving SO much after his first fight with DJ. Idc if he was cringe, or only beat TJ because he was starved, or if he ruined his legacy by losing to Aljo and Merab. He deserves to be in the HoF for those accomplishments
ALL FACTS. Everytime i think of something id like to add to the conversation, you actually cover it. You covered it all. I even agree with your opinions
Little dudes can’t skip their prime like heavier fighters can man, they just don’t hold up, the stats prove it. At this point it’s not a “curse” or coincidence.
If he would have stayed active, there's no doubt he would have more money in his pocket right now. Assuming however that spending time with his family was a real desire and not just a negotiating tactic, it's hard to put a specific monetary value on that. I think if he has "enough" money, he made the right choice. Obviously if he had won against Aljo there wouldn't be a debate.
I didn't watch MMA when Henry retired so I'm happy he came back because that fight with Merab was entertaining af, one of my favorite fights of the year. Also he wobbled Merab early on so if he capitalized a bit better on that he could have been headlining vs Sean on Noche.
Henry definitely doesn’t get the respect he deserves. He took Aljamain to a close decision at 38 years old. If he fought Aljamain in his prime I think he would’ve won. And possibly would’ve beat Merab too. People just give him too much hate
The funniest part of Henry is being big brothered as the BIGGER FIGHTER by Merab. Merab carrying Henry like a child will never not be funny or humliating.
Henry grossly overrestimating his value only exposed how deepy the casual fanbase does not give a FUCK about him (with all due respect). He spent years living this Triple C character. For what? So that even the hardcores didnt want to see him anymore, the only people that care he exists in MMA? He was originally a flyweight. He shouldve known better. His MMA career mirrored his Olympic career.. from losing to DJ and redeeming himself to retiring early and attempting a failed comeback identical to his wrestling career
Still crazy to me that a judge scored the 5th for Sterling, and ultimately decided the winner from it, when it was clearly Cejudo's round. Fight maybe wasn't a "robbery" but giving Sterling the 5th def was
What's the saying for when you get the right outcome but through the wrong method? Aljo won that fight 3 rounds to 2, even debatably 4 rounds to 1. But the judges gave him the wrong rounds
I said from day one him retiring was the worst thing for his career because nobody cared about him coming back so he just wasted a few years doing nothing
Henry for sure is one of the all time greats in the sport, he just never got the respect he deserved. And now people look at him as even less than they did before because of him losing both his fights since returning to the octagon. Especially the loss to Merab was humiliating, merab literally toyed with him and beat him in all aspects of MMA including wrestling. I think he definitely made a mistake retiring early and wasting 3 years of his prime. He bet on himself and lost. However I will say, that the time he got to spend with his kid during the early years of the kid’s life is priceless. He definitely tarnished his legacy a bit and screwed himself financially but hey, he took a risk and it didn’t pay off. That’s life.

To this day you still have fighters that call Connor out, call jones out and they barely fight.
