    An extra bit of lore on Kindred, I may be getting the minutia a bit off, but the general gist of it is:
    Lamb understands feelings, but cannot feel them. Wolf can feel emotions, but cannot understand them.
    Some of their dialogue shows this, as they often converse between each other:
    Lamb asks Wolf what hunger feels like, as she knows what it is, and understands it, but cannot feel it.
    Wolf replies stating that hunger is always there and that he doesn't like it, but Wolf doesn't understand why he feels this way.

      There's also the theory that Lamb is blind and Wolf is deaf; Lamb asks Wolf what people see them as, and Wolf asks Lamb what people sound like. Along with the feelings and emotions that you mentioned already, it's like when Grey Man split themself in two, the two halves had to share feelings and senses between them, which is a really cool concept 😊

      In general Kindred just has some of the best voice lines and VA of any character in the game imo. There are a lot of stand outs, but the duality of lamb and wolf is captured so perfectly and so many of their lines are so poetic and thought provoking. My personal favorite is "Tomorrow is a hope, never a promise." which I think just encapsulates the champion so well.

    My interpretation has always been that Lamb is the Cello and Wolf the Piano. The reason for this being that Lamb's voicelines in game are all very sombre, I remember reading and listening somewhere that her walk animation is more like a funural march. Wolf's voicelines on the otherhand are more playful, sometimes even innocent but the given to wild frezy when he senses prey nearby.

    • @Reshapable
      @Reshapable 2 года назад +52

      I lack musical education to back this up but this does seem sort of a running theme with the two, what is expected of one is somewhat embodied by the other. Also the piano has an energetic phase I tie to the excitement of wolf's hunt. But it's only the music thats energetic, it doesn't instill that in the listener because only wolf is excited. Lamb is instead deliberate and uncompromising like the Cello.

    • @bloodknyte
      @bloodknyte 2 года назад +40

      I've always thought the opposite. The piano is light and ethereal, like Lamb, and the cello provides a bit of a darker and melancholic sound, akin to Wolf.

      @northernowlmusic9825 2 года назад +70

      @@bloodknyte I think that's my favourite part about the instrumentation; depending on how you look at it, either instrument could be either figure for different reasons. The grace of Lamb, or the Playfulness of wolf in the piano. The sombreness of Lamb and the predatory nature of Wolf in the cello. Another allusion to how they used to be one being. I personally prefer the interpretation of Wolf as the Piano and Lamb as the cello due to the subversion of expectations, but I think there is still validity to both interpretations.

    Kindred is one of my favorite characters lore-wise in League. One of their stories, "A Good Death" is easily one of my favorite stories, only second to "The Bird and the Branch," which was released for Taliyah. Everything about them, their music, dialogue, everything catches such a perfect, mystical, mythological vibe that personifies death in a way I've never seen before. And when you have to write a version of death in a world where gods walk the earth, and immortal beings exist in practicality, you really have to give off the feeling that Kindred is something that cannot be stopped, and that they are inevitable. Symbolism is a thing that is so closely tied to death, and the designers at Riot do it so well with Kindred.

      Another thing I liked about “A Good Death” was that, when the main character first encountered Kindred, they weren’t coming for her, but instead she found them. It’s like a close call to death, as she was the only survivor of an incident that killed everyone else.
      If a person is not at their time, Kindred won’t come for them, as such with the main character of the story. It wasn’t her time, so they let her go, despite Wolf’s want to chase her. When it was finally her time, they arrived and took her life with Lamb’s Arrow, the woman accepting her death.

    Kindred is by far and away my favorite character Riot has ever made. There's just so much thought and detail put into every aspect of them. The idea to use a lamb and a wolf (predator and prey) as the two halves. The duality between their personalities and how they both "know" different aspects of life and death and compliment each other. How their theme is I'm pretty sure the shortest champion theme out of them all. but packs so much character and depth into, emphasized even more by their lore. AND the sheer fact that in their lore and other short stories they even took the time to include how other in universe cultures have different interpretations and reverences toward death much how real life cultures do. And lastly I don't know if you caught it, but in their short champ trailer, the story mentions a pale lonely man who split himself in two, implying even the "original" death, grim reaper whatever, grew lonely and created kindred.
    Sorry for the ramble, Its just so interesting to me how much thought and layering went into just 1 single character.

    Grey man is entropy itself, true death essentially, as if you combine both versions of death you get entropy, at least to me that's the most logical thing. This why they are so afraid of him and why the grey man is so lonely, because if they ever combined back into him they would disappear from reality itself, no longer existing. Truly dead, with no difference in how they died in the fullest sense of the phrase. Whereas the grey man would return but continue to be lonely as he is the very nothingness true death would cause, i.e. the combination of wolf and lamb

    One thing I have noticed, is the first set (IDK what you'd call it) it starts with the calm consistent piano melody, sort of representing the every days of living life and the idea of life being beautiful. Hence Lamb's line in game "Beauty fades, that is why it is beautiful." The strings kick in, signifying death looming on life's horizon. The piano kicks up, the strings start to overpower it, as if they are in a chase, a Hunt. Then eventually the keys softly and suddenly stop. Lamb's hunt has ended swiftly and suddenly. The 2nd set starts, but its MUCH more frantic, hectic, animalistic. It's comes to a struggle, before, as with the end of the first, the keys end, and the strings remain. Wolf's Chase ending with a struggle. The keys represent life, and the strings death. The notes played by the keys are short and light. The strings are looming and heavy. AMAZING piece, amazing imagery, and my favorite champ.

For me as a lore enjoyer, this game has 2 genius champions: Kindred and Jhin, the storywriting for these characters is unmatched, not just in league but in all fiction, i put them on par with Arthas from WoW, who for me is the best written fictional character. Oh I am going to fist-fight RUclips, because I NEVER got a single notification about this video despite it being one of the few that I was looking forward to the most!! But I'm absolutely delighted that you got the opportunity to give their theme a listen and an analysis, and I'm VERY happy that it's your favorite this far! I think their theme song, at least for me, stands out that much more because of how relatively simple it is. It's just a piano and a cello, but it's SO effective. I'm a sucker for cello especially, which I consider easily one of the warmest "voices" in music, it's so deep and lovely and melancholy.
    Also really happy that you also got to look them up and dig deeper into their lore as Death manifested! Kindred are my absolute favorite of any portrayal of a psychopomp/representation of Death in any fictional medium to date, solely for how unique yet sensible their design is.

    Yeaaa, finally, my favourite of them all :D Kindred's theme is just stunning. I think they're League's most interesting and original character, personally, even though they don't really have as much lore as some other champions.
    An interesting fact about Kindred is that they're not the only Grim Reaper on Runeterra. There's some other ones in different regions, and then there's also... the grim reaper of grim reapers. In the card game (Legends of Runeterra), there is a card called The Etherfiend, who represents a different kind of death, which is being forgotten. It comes for manifestations of death/spirits who are not worshipped/believed in anymore, and it's currently going after a lil fella called Fading Icon. This guy was once worshipped by beings who have since become practically immortal, and therefore don't really think about death anymore.
    Kindred's alright tho, they're by far the most popular reaper out there.

    Things get weirder when you also start digging into the greater place of the setting. In Legends of Runeterra, the card game they made, they snuck in more lore about these two. Death, or 'The Gray Man' had a really hard time competing with the Rune Wars, too many people were dying, and the shadow isles thing kind of happened just before, so Death was just not able to really compete. And thus split himself not into two, but into many many pieces.
    There are 'Representations' of death for every species and culture (Except for Yordles) in the setting, and when either that species or culture stops believing or is killed off entirely, another representation of death comes to collect that representation of death specifically. Because the only way representations can die, is if they're forgotten, also known as 'The Second Death'.
    We also know that the Kindred are the strongest of them, and are destined to be last Representations to be forgotten, in the plays that depict their existence, at the end of one of them, it clarifies that when there are no more living beings left, the Lamb and the Wolf will not be taken by the other Representation (Known as the Etherfiend), but will rather actually inflict brutal murder upon each other to take one another into the great beyond, as there will be nothing left not even the Etherfiend.
    Now, that's a long long ways away. And they're not going anywhere really. Lamb and Wolf are so ingrained into Runeterran societies, that in Arcane during a scene where Vi and Caitlyn go to a Brothel, you can see two people wearing similar fashioned masks as the Kindred, though they can't be exact copies of the mask because well, you die. And most curious enough, Caitlyn ends up talking to the one wearing the Wolf's Mask while Vi was busy. A minor minor background detail, but it's one that really stuck to me because I've been digging through Kindred lore since their release way way back.
    Another great video! I know I haven't said anything prior to this, but, well I've been a Kindred fan for a long time, and I have a great abundance of their trivia and lore within my head.
