My father enlisted at the age of 14 and served in WWII and the Korean war. He never talked about it....ever. It just so happened that my father, my son and I took an Amtrak all the way across the country and we just so happened to be in Washington DC on the day they were dedicating the WWII memorial. There were hundreds of older gentleman there who served in that war and I was able to witness my father heal that day. He was able to talk to men he never knew, I saw my father cry for the first time in my life. These brave men insured our freedom and sacrificed so much that we will never be able to pay them back. My father has since passed away, and I have a picture of him in uniform. I want to say thank you to all the men who served and died to ensure that I would be able to live and be free in the country that is my home. Thank you!

I was so touched by the Judge's talk about how patriotism has changed. All 3 of my husband's Uncles were in the wars, 1 died in the clean up at Pearl Harbor, 1 was in the battle of Bastone and lost half of both feet and almost his whole platoon and the 3rd never spoke of his battles because he felt enough horror had happened to his only brothers. There mother flew her 3 stars so proudly even though there was so much pain. I only wish more families instilled family values and patriotism in their homes. It would be such a better America and I love my country as my dad also fought for her. Blessings and many thanks to ALL of those who protect us each and every day.

My best friend and I were in Paris in 2019 and we met a gentleman at the top of the Eifel Tower who had served in WW2. He was a very kind hearted man and my friend (who is a bit more open than me about going up and talking to strangers) approached him and spoke to him. In the end, I got to meet him and we took pictures with him and exchanged stories. It was a very memorable day and one I will not ever forget. My great uncle was at Pearl Harbor when that happened, but he never spoke about it and I never felt inclined to ask, perhaps because I never wanted to bring up tragic memories in others.

I visited the beaches of Normandie where D-Day took place so long a ago and as a veteran I can't believe that people have crossed these beaches while beeing under heavy machinegun fire or all that other stuff that has been in the air these days. And I can truely understand that they couldn't have stand the opening scene of that movie when they have been there.
I served in the german army and I sure know what a terrible weapon that MG42 was, cause we used the same decades later and in part, it's still in service today.
Only to cross the beaches, if you ever saw them, at low tide was the most heroic act I can ever imagine. Thank you all for your service to liberate Europe and the oportunity to a free and democratic life. Greetings and a salute from Germany.
