So using the plate (option 2) wont allow you to simply pop the fin out, however, keeps the fin more secure? Is that why you would use the plate?

Seriously...lmao.
What do you do when your whitewater paddling and your fin smashes into a rock with so much force that it bends the screw going through the fin and the extra amount of screw "under" the fin bends at a 90 degree angle not allowing you to unscrew the fin?
