be me: >comes back to game after 7 month break >gets all bis stuff to farm croesus on my ironman over the course of a month >about to get pickaxe of whatever >jagex nerf croesus 18 months after release
I'm mostly okay with Jagex nerfing things if these come in a timely fashion. But when they wait so long to nerf them, just because they couldn't foresee how broken these new items/abilities would become, that's when we have an issue. On the other hand, people like The RS Guy are the ones voicing our concerns to the Developers, but I think a huge majority of people may have forgot he's actually in the P.A.G (Player Advocacy Group) so it's basically his duty to speak for us; I'm typing this because I've read some people online saying Jagex is only (almost exclusively) catering to him and his concerns, but they may not be aware of this FACT. My takeaway on this? Nerf sht a week later (at most), or maybe, just maybe Jagex, properly playtest stuff before release. What if Jagex just make a Beta World with these new weapons/abilities to let people play with them before release? This will, 100% get them hyped to farm them in the live game, I for one would be hella hyped to test the weapon and see if it's a good upgrade or not. Edit: Man my english is terrible today :S
pro tip for nuzz nuzz (im a pro gamer btw) you can drag the little line on your friends list between the names and the world numbers so that you can read the names
The Ring of Death change went too far for me, it's so absurd the only explanation I could possibly come up with is someone had a personal vendetta against another player using it. The fact that sign of life takes priority over ROD now shows how out of touch with the game they have become. I watched all of the videos surrounding it, the counter arguements were complete nonsense too. Won't name names but "people were abusing it". Abusing what? I'm using the ring they just changed how is simply using the item "abusing" it.
@@Kranon Yes, as they are in many other mmo. Some offer incentives, some have a massive enough player base who in parts is curious and want to test the next new thing asap before it goes life.
They just need to talk about the nerft. -right after release: "Perhaps it needs a nerf, we'll wait and see..." -a month later: "A nerf seems likely, but we're still gathering data. We don't want to overcorrect.". -Half a year later: "It's going to get a nerft, but we're still testing how to do it right. We want to not have to change it again."/ -a year later: "The nerft is comming soon...".
One example of a really big nerf or change that made myself very frustrated and I'm sure thousands of other people as well was the comp capes after being bis from may 2011 to June 2019. Some of the changes made I do agree with and other not so much. Another example of a major changes years later which for me was the most frustrating part.
Im the same way. Like with ED3, it just took so insanely long for those to get nerfed that it was just annoying more than anything. The problem is that sometimes it feels like they nerf stuff just because they can, not because they should. With croe, runescape 3's first and only skilling boss, people were doing it so much just because it is what it is. Finally something different that doesnt have you sweating over activating abilities and prayers on the right tick for an hour. People played this boss because it was different. That does not mean you should nerf it. I get the xp rates but the common drops? almost a year after the boss came out? come on.
People played the boss because the XP rates surpassed most of the skills' other training methods from 70 onwards and made people millions for even less work. The boss was literally all upside compared to the majority of other methods, why are you acting like people were running multiple alts on Croseus just for funsies?
It's a tough topic. Nerfs coming long after a release shows a lack of mastery in the world of balancing. Which is completely normal - if the game isn't as old as this one. Usually this means the company isn't really thriving at retaining all of its best thinkers. On the other hand - what are they going to learn if they keep getting away with it? Also, it's their game. We've all had the option to leave for a long time. Also they are making bank off the game, so are a ton of other people. So idk, I don't see this topic ever being resolved.
There is an answer yes, Jagex has terrible timing. Nerfs are okay if done in a timely fashion. But it seems they just can't foresee how far the community will take these new weapons/abilities.
Not against nerfs totally but the communication and timing is abysmal at times, and like u said they bring out a new item (fsoa) they nerfed multiple things that have been out for years to accommodate how op the new item is and are still scrambling to solve an on going rune supply issue from said op item
I wish I could have gotten a refund on my ring of death after I bought it to help me save gp while pvming, but now after its nerf, it's useless in my bank and a waste of what, 90m gp? That's the impact that spurs players, when their hard work that had finally paid off, no longer does.
jagex has many of these problems but once they try to tackle them fully, they try and do a good job of it. like the GE tax. but sometimes the damage done by then is so great it seems like a lost cause or waste of time and effort i feel.
Jagex invests money into some type of content or gear, baits the player base into feeling safe, nerfs the method or item to the ground. Never thought of it like that before...
Why do I lose all the food (usually 28 Rocktail soup)my familiar is carrying when I die while trying to boss ? No food can be found??? If I don't bring food I die quickly, if I die quickly I lose all the extra food I bring is lost. Great Fun.
While I’m not a fan of all the nerfs I strongly believe nerfing things are needed. A lot of the content we have received over the last few years have been strong when it comes to upgrades. That’s both good and bad because amazing we have stronger things to use and grind for. But also they need to be able to make new content without ruining all older content. Obviously there’s ways around it but I like what the nerfs COULD lead to
I’m still convinced they’re gonna nerf the fsoa pretty heavily and it’s made me not want to buy a back stock on grim pages and other crit boosting supplies.
I hope they dont but what makes sense that makes it close to bolg spec, is if an ability crits, it fires off only 1 auto even if the auto crits, only 1 auto will fire after the main ability crits, but screw that. Really dont want that to happen
@@EVILalwaysDIES I mean all styles are in the same area dps wise. In my clan Zer0 pvm we do dpm challenge gems on dummies to apply for dpm tags within the discord server. The tags go up in intervals of 150k damage and a new tier is only added if someone actually achieves that dpm. 1900k in 5 minutes is the highest threshold in all 3 styles that someone has reached with no one reaching 2050k yet. So at the highest level of pvm all styles are within that 1900k-2050k range. Pretty balanced if you ask me.
I made bills off FSW, I bought a bunch of good gear and items and learned Glacor for the first time. They nerfed ring of death and I just figured they'd buff it back later. So I've been skilling instead. It killed my motivation to PVM when imo the coolest item was just well ruined basically.
Death costs are super low now.. the only reason I used ring of death was so my masterwork armor wouldn't degrade so heavily if I died. It was the only gear I worried about dying in
Yeah even based on the video it looks like it's one of the reasons why a bunch of ppl are already turned off from endgame content now. Spend hours and hours to get an item/ability/skill level only for it to get nerfed. It just sucks when stuff gets nerfed. They buff certain parts of it and then nerf it to the ground after that. What's the point of doing that? I understand nerfs are necessary but that's not how u deal with nerfs. U gotta test it multiple times before u even release whatever content u plan to release. I definitely agree with some of the comments here. Jagex needs to have a lot more QA testers for whatever item/ability or skill which will be released so that they understand how it works and how it's gonna impact the game and economy. That way u'll have way lesser nerfs compared to already 3 nerfs in the last 3 months already and more incoming till the end of the year.
Nerfs are fine if they are done correctly which means in timely fashion (grico yikes) and not as overkills (feeling pumped/ring of death yikes). If you get used to the idea of x being a stable piece of content and then start to save for it, buy it and use it only for it to become piece of crap for (at that point) seemingly arbitrary reason, it sucks. Atm I'm not feeling too motivated to chase new goals because next week anything could be 20x easier (maybe even through mtx cough) or harder so idk where to focus on.
The changes that where made for Croesus really hit me hard I just completed the pick of earth and song and all quest to go along with it and farmed out a whole golem max 3 combo to become ready for are small team of discord friends could start attempting to run it. so we all did all this work to start will only a few of us even having one kill and now rewards to be cut common drops, after buying a ring of death was told to help new players get in to pvm then nef it as well. I feel like I always get close to my goal then bam its gone. I think the hunter xp nef was good idea though on Croesus they should have just started there....
4-man croesus was barely hit at all. 90% of your profits comes from uniques, it was maybe 5% hit to total profits. The nerf really hits low level players who did Croesus for reaper tasks, as well as ironmen who did it for skilling supplies and onyx. Making a nerf that only targets low level players and ironmen seems senseless to me
Jagex needs to stop caring about players wanting to maintain their wealth, and players need to stop caring about their worth being devalued. That is why things either get Nerfed 5min after release or a year after.
Kinda the main issue I have too, that or nerfing something else instead of the actual problem. Like nerfing shattered worlds because of the spec power of Dragon Weaponry.
I’ve stopped playing because I feel like jagex does whatever they want and have zero interest in what the community wants. It was a fun go around this 3rd time playing but the lack of regard for community is very frustrating.
Well, of course some nerfs do come late, on the other hand - they changed the ring of death quite early, and it also upset ppl, what makes me think, a lot of ppl do dislike nerfing in general. But nerfing, no matter if it happens soon or late, is a tool to shape and fix the game. Of course, this creates an additional risk when it comes to money, but this is the exact number 1 reason, to not be part of the "hype n' hate" culture. Simply think about what you can, want and should afford, be Always aware of the risk, and never make desicions that you can't explain with YOUR knowldege, unless you have a trustable source of information. A lot of ppl are very loud, but it's wiser to listen to the quiet ones.
It should have been changed after 1 day maybe 2. The rod was obviously broken as hell. While it was early compared to other things it was still late. Maybe a week.
Good, nerf things if they think it will make the game better. People are going to be pissy about OP things they feel as though they have to run, and they're going to feel pissy when those things are made less powerful. Having broken things exist in game and not fix them just creates a chain reaction of impacting and ruining other things. Jagex's timing is horrible, and they probably can prioritize better things to nerf, but I am beyond happy with the change.
I agree with some other comments, Jagex should implement a public test realm. Many, if not most, MMO do it these days, to avoid exactly stuff like that and also to stress test certain functions/new places in the game (lag at forinthry on populated worlds sends its regards). Some even give a minor incentive for players (some free goodies) if they need more bodies to test. Why does Jagex seem so adamantly unwilling to do this...? I don't say that will avoid any late nerfs, but it certainly could cut their number down.
I think all of the problems boil down to transparency and communication with the community. When everything is a secret or kept under wraps people feel distrust. If they were more transparent about how they go about nerfs and communicated with the community about nerfs or potential nerfs would make the majority of players happier about nerfs as a whole. Personally I don’t really care about nerfs much as I don’t pvm anymore because my computer is ancient. At this point I just do other money making to fund my unhealthy obsession with dyes. Honestly I actually kind of like nerfs sometimes because it means I can get my favourite new weapons and armour for cheaper allowing me to put what I save towards more dyes.😅
If we want to talk transparency, Phreak over at the riot games balance team makes comprehensive videos about the changes at least he is part of making, including reasoning, cause, and estimated impact. Admittedly afaik he does that in his private time
That's kind of a bad take but I can see where you're coming from. So it's valid. Merchers are the consequences of belated nerfs. But not necessarily the driving factor.
I think having a public test world would be able to fix most of the overpowered items. Have a world where everyone starts out at max levels. Where the GE has unlimited of every item. Etc. Let the players test the items before they are in mainscape. Im honestly surprised a test/beta world isnt a think after all these years...but we can have FSW.....give the players what they really want
I feel the exact opposite. When something comes into any game i would expect that they have taken the time to forsee how this will effect the state of the game. Nerfing an item over a year into it's life makes perfect sense as how else will they introduce new stuff if the old items are the best? Also if you got over a year to use an item you should be content on how much you paid for it vs how much you got to use it.
In the pvm community all styles are pretty balanced right now which is why nerfs don’t make sense. Magic was behind for so many years and now they’re going to put it at the bottom of the 3 again.
@@zombieepx1933 Oh the irony. Mage was king until SGB got buffed and ECB released, even then mage was still king. Melee became good on release of ED2 but it was a massive cost investment at the time for many players and a lot of skill to perform well. Mage was only the weakest style for a very short period of time considering it was by far the best since eoc release until 2018/19 and then came back in 2021 barely 3 years after its crown was removed and was also given the biggest safety net to learn. What was the point of using other styles when you take far less damage and dealt more as well?
Mod jack said that they're thinking about making kills limited to time. So in a day/week you can only get a certain amount of kills before you cant kill the boss anymore. If that would happen im 100% quitting and never coming back. Im just so paranoid about playing this game because of jagex constantly nerfing the trends people have adapted and evolved around. Idk how much more i can take.
its simple if you kill a boss to fast with low food cost. you need less coins ! how to sell bonds to people who need less coins? and thats the game they dont realy care about how you play it and what you think about it. the main thing is selling bond and shit.and they get away with it because they know we dont throw away years of work we put in the account.
They did the same thing with the Bik book. You used to be able to toggle it on for a few seconds at the start of every minute to get the prock for the clue scroll while consuming only a few seconds worth of charge every minute. Some say this was unintentional and a bug but I disagree, the Bik book was the only one that worked that way and the only one without cooldown on the toggle. In either case they nerfed it last November, a year aftrr release, so you can no longer toggle it and the cost of the pages doubled Other examples are the greater chain nerf, the xp/gp nerf to ED3 trash mobs, and the last patch's nerf to chinchompas and incendiary shot (which was in the game since EOC started) This style of delayed nerfing is bad, not just because it makes people hesitate buying new stuff because they don't know if it'll get nerfed, but also because it creates resentment in the people that got onboard late, since they know some people got to abuse the overpowered boss/ability/weapon etc for months or years while others never got the chance. Jagex should look at how new content plays out, decide if that's balanced or not and nerf it in short order, within a month of release, or else let it be in the game as it is
FSOA 2 years of the rich players making billions off it as the meta. the rest of us finally get our hands on the gear they have, by the time it's all nerfed and crashed.
While I do not personally work on any teams that regard game balance, I do work in Video game development, so I hear the discussions being had in regards to balance, I just don't often have any say in them. There are an endless list of reasons a developer may choose to rebalance something. Usually, players see balance as an issue of what an item does or doesn't do, or how well that item does a thing. However, thats not how development sees it. It's all about player interaction with that thing. So to speak on balance in general (and not specific to anything in particular) something could be very overpowered, but if its not "abused", its not ruining anybody elses experience and its not causing any real issues it will likely go unchanged. However, if there is a change in the user interaction with that thing, thats new information that could sway the developers to change their mind. I personally believe that the most likely explanation is that the item is so damn expensive that the player pool to had access to it was too small to call it "problematic enough" at the time to justify a change, but once there was enough of a player base that had it, it became more evident that there was an issue. Either that or it just took them that long to think of a solution that wouldnt result in the subreddit threatening to firebomb the studio lol
i've lost faith in their mods and dev teams. the lack of testing and just throwing it live is amazing.. not caring mentality that doesn't go well in my industry but with these guys its ridiculous.
They need to leave the damn game alone. How about fix some outdated stuff? Make mini games fun again? Introduce new invention complements, such as chaotic items (make dungeons fun again), I could go on and on. Yet they sit here and ruin the current state of the game for everyone. Sick of it
My and some of my friends i know talked about these late nerfs, honestly it would in my opinion after content been untouched for year maybe keep it that way.
I feel that the reason they take so long to nerf things is because they take that time to get into the hands of the "masses" (the group of players playing at a high enough level/money standpoint to buy these things) and then they see the problem on the scale of thousands of people using it over hundreds. A couple extra thousand or mil into the economy doesn't seem to hurt it when a small amount of people are doing something like Crosus, but when it's the only thing pushed for everyone to aim for mid level it starts to stick out. Same with Shattered worlds, ED3, etc. I'm not saying that these nerfs are good in any way, but I can kind of see why they come so much later. If you think an item is going to get nerfed you wait on it, and if it's been 6-7 months you go "oh, damn, looks like that's intentional" and grab it. After a bunch of people have that realization it still takes time for those people to get used to it and max out the potential. The problem comes when a lot of people reach that milestone, and the devs all of a sudden see "6 trillion more gold than we expected was dumped from Crosus yesterday, we need to change that soon." Again, not defending them, just saying one possibility on why it can happen.
If that is the case then it's pure incompetence on Jagex's part. They have the data, they can see how the new content plays out and extrapolate what happens when x number of players uses it. And even then it doesn't explain some things like the Croesus nerf. Croesus has very low barrier for entry, it has not seen any increase in popularity (in fact the opposite is true from my experience), and there was no new content released that made it extra fast to complete. They just observed it for a really long time before nerfing it out of the blue for no reason
Having done a bit of game development, and working with teams with production manufacturing, I can tell you that there isn’t a true answer. Management makes anything difficult! Coding or ideas sometimes just go with the mood at the time. Also people always have a bias, regardless of who you are runescape mods/developers absolutely have a heavy bias. I recommend watching a lot of the development talks and the history videos where they show forum posts of opinions, ect. Wow there is no way you are guessing why they do it because they say one thing and do another lol. Nice vid btw, gotta hope this helps even a little!
Personally I think there aren't enough nerfs. Mainly animate dead/cryptbloom and fsoa which I think overly simplify some parts of the gam and make it less interesting. Another thing which I'd like nerfed is the alchables from GW3 is which probably the primary source of inflation these days. Personally I think a nerf is never too late. If something is badly designed, it should be changed.
I only did pub sus. I don't like to sweat a skilling boss and now maybe only getting 2 rolls on table for my standard amount of points in a pub match isn't worth it and being forced to do 4 man.
I think its justified for the integrity of the game, but I also there should be some transparency about them. I think quitting is a bit severe. But I do think things do deserve to be nerfed.
Short answer, yes. Long answer Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees. Most of what they seem to nerf is quality of life and time savers. Its almost never anything massively game breaking or horribly strong. Im honestly surprised animate dead hasn't gotten kneecapped yet. edit: god fucking dammit
I'm guessing the number 1 reason for nerfing or "rebalancing" is due to bots that are "farming" at areas so the more quicker they can get their skill levels up the more likely they will farm at places with higher gp value (fast money making) Naturally it's still not easy for Jagex to detect bots because there isn't really any online game that can do it with 100% accuracy, so it may take time to nerf something. Another reason is "New Fast Leveling and Fast Money Making" guides which bots can do quicker than real people. The best money makers are Bosses, so naturally some weapons will be nerfed but even PvM farming is a target for bots. Anyway, the answer to why there has been a nerf really does come down to a New Faster Way of Training or Speed Killing Guide that the Developers haven't considered until it's obvious that it will unbalance a game.
If they can't nerf it in a month of less they should leave it alone. For example, you talked about GRICO. What does nerfing it now accomplish? PBs have already been set, the meta has shifted towards it. It's like they're trying to balance all the 3 styles or so they claim and melee is always the bottom tier choice because it almost never sees anything significant. Bottom line for me is obviously it wasn't hurting the game bad enough that they felt it couldn't wait, so why nerf it months and months later? Then the reverse... make an item OP such as RoD and then nerf it into oblivion so it goes from meta to unusable and a total waste of my Ironman's resources...
I always find the nerfs a bit of a bummer. I'm a returning player and have been back for a little over a year. pretty much every time i get to new content, it isn't worth doing because it has been nerfed into the ground. It makes it tough to not just skip content and go to the newer things. Definitely makes dead content, already an issue in RS, more common. It also makes a feeling that the players who got to that content earlier have a huge advantage over players who need time to get into content. It's rough investing so much time and money into getting upgrades and just hoping they don't get nerfed and you lost everything you worked for (finally got a fsoa, so preparing for the nerf)
i feel you, i returned in november on a all high 80's account and started to get into PVM. When i finally hit max late december, some things i was looking forward to get where nerfed and the trend has continued since (still considering myself lucky i was a bit short to buy Ring of Death before they killed it) edit: at least RoD was a fast(ish) nerf, but it should never have released that way as it was pretty foreseeable what whould happen (lots and lots of players cheesing content they wheren't ready for)
All I can say something has to change because actions speak louder than words and every time words are spoken the actions at jagex paint another picture. This empathetic approach to hidden money grab tactics needs to stop. I would much rather jagex tell us hey we are nurfing this because it’s too OP and we don’t want you power leveling, getting bored, and canceling your subscription or like this two faced yak track… they extend it because the masses were “not finishing it”… and the solution was to double the time for yak track, make it 40% longer, 100% more time consuming, and 80% more expensive knowing very well the the masses who did try on yak track would just buy tokens for the last handful if they had no time left. So how exactly is this beneficial to the players who don’t have time to finish yak? They essentially just mashed two yaks together tried to make it look pretty by lowering the levels but level 50 yak is literally the halfway point to level 70. If we didn’t have time to finish one without buying tokens how can we finish two? And this is why I want real transparency because now I feel disrespected as a loyal supporter because I’m getting lied to in my face by say you’re doing something for your supporters when we can all see that’s not the case. 😑
THIS! It infuriated me when i took a closer look and noticed level 50 being the half way point time investment wise, while they give the ILLUSION of it "only" being 20 lvls more then 50 but double the time, so you'll have more leisure to do it. Your point about words and actions is exactly right
Jagex has enough money and enough players, bring back testing worlds before every major boss or combat release. Let the players (A lot of which know significantly more about how things will impact the game than Jagex themselves because they do endgame PVM 16 hours a day) use them at instances of bosses or play the new bosses with endgame gear and give feedback so things will be in a better place at launch.
This is definitely the way to go. I'm piggybacking on your comment to remember everyone how much fun beta worlds were. I would PK people there all day with BIS armour, I could open clue scroll caskets over and over again, i could even see how my Telos Drops would look like and if it was worth it for me to keep streaking (drops are seeded). If Jagex brought Beta Worlds back, they could hype the sht out of everyone because we would have freedom to test the new weapons or abilities added, we could see if they're broken before being added into the live game, and to a certain extent, we could even see the price points before they get their drop rates added based on their effects alone. Not to mention this would give content creators plenty of content to make and playtest.
To be honest, I am concerned with the state of the game, just look at OSRS, they do have ways to test the updates that are going to come into the game, they can choose whether or not the update is good for the game. Have you seen the amount of effort that they have put into the new skill they are gonna release? Is amazing! Whilst we do not have the slightest clue of what is Necromancy... I do not remember where I saw it but, there was a stream where a Mod just said something like 'this is our game and at the end we are going to make it the way we want'. It's depressing tbh, I have been playing this game for 18 years but recently I just hate it, the updates are really bad, really far away from each other and the suggestions of even thinking on setting timers on the bosses is just a sign of where the game is going.... As they do not have the slightest clue on what to do, they just nerf it and say 'it is what it is'.... I even canceled my membership and started playing FFXIV because I do not want to invest any more time into this game, where the players are not even a second priority.....
The OS community really gets spoiled, ngl. I envy them. The mindset that "this is our game, we do what we please" is really arrogant and shortsighted. We the players are who pay for this game, we spend our free time playing it, WE should be the ones who decide the direction it goes. The shortsightedness of RS3 dev team's decisions is already showing, OS has seen steady growth in player count while RS3 has stagnated for more than 5 years
Well when you have a vocal people like "The RS Guy" and his goon followers complain or say shit is overpowered they will tend to listen to the people who play the game the most and not look at it critically. What should be done is like OSRS where they poll updates and nerfs would be a nice change. Or a public test realm for all the players instead of a small minority then you get a broad scope of what is and isn't healthy for the game.
If you don’t want to deal with nerfs, just use mage. Isn’t it great how the two weaker styles constantly get random nerds no one complained about but mage gets gconc, fsoa and animate dead 😂
Comparing a card game into RuneScape is like comparing your grandma to a crane. There are lots of hints from the game designers on why particular item was added into a game. There is a pattern of adding items into RuneScape and is to create variety to have a best in slot item in particular scenario. This allows the team to create new item but keep the bar in the same place.
Rico wasn’t nerfed just because it’s damage was decreased. It was actually hugely buffed in the way it interacted with bakriminel bolts, which is evident in its explosion in price at the time; that being it rose from 600m or so and capping at about 2bil at some point. Previously, you could only get 1 proc on ricochet as a whole and now you can get 7, which allows a more nuanced approach to doing dmg as opposed to a braindead increase to damage numbers.
Honestly besides being frustrated when buying a item only to have it nerfed . Grico , R.o.d …. There needs to be extensive testing before they release these items.. sometimes feel like a money grab making the more expensive items more useless or niche. But hey Jagex knows best 🎉
Makes me laugh when they allow something to be in the game for over a year(probably abusing it on their own accounts) then all of a sudden its too op and has to be nerfed.
9 days later from posting this video and now FSOA and animate dead are getting nerfed. Jagex really proved your point here.
Well I didn't realize my example of Animate dead being nerfed years later and causing an uproar would actually come to fruition...within a week.
be me:
>comes back to game after 7 month break
>gets all bis stuff to farm croesus on my ironman over the course of a month
>about to get pickaxe of whatever
>jagex nerf croesus 18 months after release
At 5:36 was this an ingame graphic glitch or something went wrong with video upload?
Yeah I think the long lengths between release and nerf is my biggest issue.

It's nerf or nothing
This might be #1 comment
@@NuzzNuzz indeed :p
The other problem is that they way too far with their nerfs.
Jagex waited 4 years to nerf dreadnips and dominion gloves.
I support some nerfs but taking years to execute them is ridiculous!!
Jagex needs a public test server before new items or abilities get into the main game
Who will be the testers in that case? The PVMe Collective?
@@Kranon Yes, as they are in many other mmo. Some offer incentives, some have a massive enough player base who in parts is curious and want to test the next new thing asap before it goes life.
Good shout
@@Kranonalso the whole community, I mean we're pretty vocal weather we like stuff or not lol
@@Kranonthe whole community. It’s pretty common for all game to have Beta testing server to try their new changes.

@@hobo753 I'm an ironman. Amazing source of alchables for gp
They just need to talk about the nerft.
-right after release: "Perhaps it needs a nerf, we'll wait and see..."
-a month later: "A nerf seems likely, but we're still gathering data. We don't want to overcorrect.".
-Half a year later: "It's going to get a nerft, but we're still testing how to do it right. We want to not have to change it again."/
-a year later: "The nerft is comming soon...".
One example of a really big nerf or change that made myself very frustrated and I'm sure thousands of other people as well was the comp capes after being bis from may 2011 to June 2019. Some of the changes made I do agree with and other not so much. Another example of a major changes years later which for me was the most frustrating part.
Croe had to be nerfed....a boss that shits out money for doing nothing is too OP
The boss was literally all upside compared to the majority of other methods, why are you acting like people were running multiple alts on Croseus just for funsies?
why bother with game balance when you can just nerf things into dead content instead
They nerf everything we enjoy using/doing, but they buff MTX
It's a tough topic. Nerfs coming long after a release shows a lack of mastery in the world of balancing. Which is completely normal - if the game isn't as old as this one. Usually this means the company isn't really thriving at retaining all of its best thinkers. On the other hand - what are they going to learn if they keep getting away with it? Also, it's their game. We've all had the option to leave for a long time. Also they are making bank off the game, so are a ton of other people. So idk, I don't see this topic ever being resolved.
i'd imagine it takes awhile to gather data to see how OP something is. Maybe not a year or two but..
Really curious to know your thoughts, what do you think the answer to this is? Or is there no right answer.
That's the impact that spurs players, when their hard work that had finally paid off, no longer does.
jagex has many of these problems but once they try to tackle them fully, they try and do a good job of it. like the GE tax. but sometimes the damage done by then is so great it seems like a lost cause or waste of time and effort i feel.
can i have 500mil ?
It’s the same with treasure hunter. We don’t know the next time they are ever going to re-release items.
I legit bought grico a week before it was nerfed. I was salty af
We should run a poll... Alex or nuzz nuzz
very fair video. well done.
If anything Jagex has let the game go too far with XP rates, so "nerfing" a lot of things to make them more balanced is long overdue
Great Fun.
Jagex doesn’t nerf, they kill.
No, they have a real bad problem of releasing things overpowered.. then fixing them pretty late.
I made bills off FSW, I bought a bunch of good gear and items and learned Glacor for the first time. They nerfed ring of death and I just figured they'd buff it back later. So I've been skilling instead. It killed my motivation to PVM when imo the coolest item was just well ruined basically.
Realize that 6 months ago this problem was way worse with death costs being high. This is an optimal time to try and learn pvm.
Seems to be relevant to new content that could be impacted by older methods. So they premptively do it.
Don’t sell yourself short, if you wanted to become a developer, you seem competent enough to learn
I feel this... I was going to start learning Croesus within the next couple weeks as I also finally had all but one of the best items for the boss.
I just think they wait too long to nerf.
I don't say that will avoid any late nerfs, but it certainly could cut their number down.
jagex been tryna scam our money bro - they did this with the green santa hat promo aswel
Admittedly afaik he does that in his private time
Nerfs arent a problem jagex is just so inconsistent with that they nerf and what not
The thing i hate the most about them randomly nerfing stuff years after release is knowing that they wont revisit the nerf for even longer lmao
poor game design leads toi nerfs which upset players
Nerfing croesus was a bad idea I'm dry 900 KC no top bottom only pet and he trolled me with 2 sacks wtf is this drop table jagex
Sounds like a merchanting problem not a content issue.
That's kind of a bad take but I can see where you're coming from. So it's valid.
Merchers are the consequences of belated nerfs. But not necessarily the driving factor.
they shouldn't work so much on nerfing items, but work on the O we dont go good with amd graphic cards. Did they buy nvidia stock?
I think having a public test world would be able to fix most of the overpowered items. Have a world where everyone starts out at max levels. Where the GE has unlimited of every item. Etc. Let the players test the items before they are in mainscape. Im honestly surprised a test/beta world isnt a think after all these years...but we can have FSW.....give the players what they really want
They had a test world before EOC release where you could test the new combat system so it couldn't be that hard for them to do.
Good video, i agree jagex like other games should have a grace period for all the future releases involving PVM
its simple if you kill a boss to fast with low food cost. you need less coins ! how to sell bonds to people who need less coins? and thats the game they dont realy care about how you play it and what you think about it.
the main thing is selling bond and shit.and they get away with it because they know we dont throw away years of work we put in the account.
It's almost as if jagex employees don't play the game sometimes...
In either case they nerfed it last November, a year aftrr release, so you can no longer toggle it and the cost of the pages doubled
Other examples are the greater chain nerf, the xp/gp nerf to ED3 trash mobs, and the last patch's nerf to chinchompas and incendiary shot (which was in the game since EOC started)
This style of delayed nerfing is bad, not just because it makes people hesitate buying new stuff because they don't know if it'll get nerfed, but also because it creates resentment in the people that got onboard late, since they know some people got to abuse the overpowered boss/ability/weapon etc for months or years while others never got the chance. Jagex should look at how new content plays out, decide if that's balanced or not and nerf it in short order, within a month of release, or else let it be in the game as it is
It's not even cryptbloom that's op isn't it mostly animate dead?
They are rigth by quitting, when u find out that they have taken down/nerfed your content you enjoy. Yeah it takes away the fun of playing
FSOA 2 years of the rich players making billions off it as the meta. the rest of us finally get our hands on the gear they have, by the time it's all nerfed and crashed.
if anything??? the should fucking buff it. literally fucking buff fsoa. if they care about fair.
Sick of it
Some kind of warning or even knowing how long they plan on watching it for tests would be great
My and some of my friends i know talked about these late nerfs, honestly it would in my opinion after content been untouched for year maybe keep it that way.
*My friends and I.
millions of xp per hour dont belong in this game
The problem comes when a lot of people reach that milestone, and the devs all of a sudden see "6 trillion more gold than we expected was dumped from Crosus yesterday, we need to change that soon."
Again, not defending them, just saying one possibility on why it can happen.
I'll give you an answer, beta test it and nerf it before release
Don't jinx it, i finally could be arsed to do most quests up to this point and plan to get it soon =D
I'm guessing the number 1 reason for nerfing or "rebalancing" is due to bots that are "farming" at areas so the more quicker they can get their skill levels up the more likely they will farm at places with higher gp value (fast money making)
Naturally it's still not easy for Jagex to detect bots because there isn't really any online game that can do it with 100% accuracy, so it may take time to nerf something.
When i finally hit max late december, some things i was looking forward to get where nerfed and the trend has continued since (still considering myself lucky i was a bit short to buy Ring of Death before they killed it) edit: at least RoD was a fast(ish) nerf, but it should never have released that way as it was pretty foreseeable what whould happen (lots and lots of players cheesing content they wheren't ready for)
wow well this didn't age well. not even 2 weeks from when i got the staff it's getting nerfed. I'm over this game
This is stupid. Isn't it better for something that should be nerfed to be nerfed late rather than never at all? ......
The shortsightedness of RS3 dev team's decisions is already showing, OS has seen steady growth in player count while RS3 has stagnated for more than 5 years
They need to get it right in first place instead nerfing, animate dead will be next tbf it is broken lol
Once the high level dweeber elitist pvmers are done using animate at zammy, they'll start complaining more about it and jagex will probably nerf it
Well when you have a vocal people like "The RS Guy" and his goon followers complain or say shit is overpowered they will tend to listen to the people who play the game the most and not look at it critically.
Would love to see a graph of sorts on items prices before and after a nerf showing how much impact the changes they make actually has

Yah for being broke and worse than terrible at this game so stay relatively unaffected except like Ring of Death. 😂
Makes me laugh when they allow something to be in the game for over a year(probably abusing it on their own accounts) then all of a sudden its too op and has to be nerfed.
But are you a game developer though?
Nope, just like I said at the start xD I am giving my thoughts from a players perspective.
You don't need to be a Game developer to have an opinion tho... If we kept our opinions to ourselves, the game would've died in 2007.
First?
yeah its a problem but im rich in runescape so i don't care
Por eso te llamas Brian, como los memes. Saludos al Kevin y a la Kimberly!
