Coming back while down 2 runs in the 9th inning is the sign of life that we fans needed to see in the team. Consistently good baseball in the next 2 months is the only key to success if they are serious about a playoff berth this season.
They don’t have a chance. This is fun and all but this is not even close to a playoff team. They won’t be contenders until the farm is on the roster and that’s a big IF they’re mlb level. Guys like cassie, Shaw, Horton, bastelleros etc.

Arizona won NL pennant last year being only a few games over .500, and I think they were under that mark much of the season. Anything can happen in today's playoff system much to the chagrin of division winners who win 95-100 or more games.

The summer of Tauchman 2.0. Honestly for what started as a fill in player last year, he’s grown to be a legit MLB’er and one of my favorite cubs. He’s just a clutch baller and great defensively.
Imanaga may not have been at his best this game, but his teammates were there to provide run support. Suzuki and Bellinger provided the offense and result in a walk-off win for the Cubs

Even though I don't like the Cubs with the Umpire deal with that call strike 3 when he said the guy was not at the plate it was a bad call. The guy was in the box ready to go and then he stepped out with a timeout

The *Samurai Japan* showdown between Imanaga ⚔️ Nootbaar ended in a victory for Imanaga! Though he wasn’t at his best today, allowing 10 hits and 4 runs, the Cubs win when he pitches. It’s great to see Suzuki and the other hitters step up for him.👏

Helsley blew it at the end. Very unusual for him. Also Goldsmidt might be making a come back after a really bad first half of the season.

Helsey might want to consider changing speeds a lot more to keep hitters off balance. I remember when Houston Astros' Roy Oswalt used to float 73 mph curveballs up to the hitters atter throwing fastballs.
Gray looked fairly sharp, offense did its job for the most part, but Helsley looked like 2023 Helsley. We need him back on track if we’re going to make a push.

If he hits this well in Chicago, then you have to try and sign Paul Goldschmidt because he terrorizes us and he kills it at Wrigley Field, plus he’s exactly the type of player the Cubs want. Would it cost a lot of money sure but not a ridiculous amount of money, I would rather have him than Dansby Swanson because I think we have enough solid shortstops who can hit in the minor leagues and although Dansby Swanson is a very good All-Star shortstop, I think the Cubs have enough talent to replace him and then spend money on guys who can hit 40 home runs and drive in 100 runs or more like paul or someone else. We need run production. And it’s nice to see Pete Crow Armstrong finally Getting some good at bats and driving and runs he could be a star one day, and I hope Brendan Davis will come here, or is it Brennan? Regardless, we need as much young talent as possible, and just get rid of the older guys not because I don’t like them or they’re not good, but you have to get younger as a team otherwise, the same stuff is going to happen
Nah Goldy is already 36 years old. Definitely not worth it when they already have an above average 1B in Busch. Ironically (this year) Busch has Goldy beat in defensive rating - leading in outs above average, runs prevented, and defensive success rate.
You talk about them needing to get rid of old guys and get younger. But then you're arguing that they need to sign a guy that is nearing his 37th birthday who's best days are long behind him. The cubs are already one of the youngest teams in the league. Bellinger, Swanson, Suzuki and Happ are really the only marginally older position players they have and they are all significantly younger than Goldschmidt. And the cubs already have four guys that are posting the same or better offensive numbers as Goldschmidt, including one that plays his position that is eleven years younger.

The pitching was getting smacked around the entire game. The cards were incredibly lucky that most of them were hit directly at fielders. Nobody on the cards pitching staff was fooling anybody in this game.
