  • While doing this restoration, I took care to preserve the originality of the scissors.The seller said the scissors were made in the 1900s but when I was restoring it, I realized it was much older.When I saw how old it was, I decided to keep the scissors for myself and use them at my workshop. I used ordinary tools to do the restoration.Also I used simple techniques and machinery.
    When I cleaned off all the rust, I realized that the scissors were shining too much.I had to coppper plate it to make it look old.It also helped to stop decay.
    The scissors originally had fabric on the handle.

    I don't understand one of the steps you took. You put them into I assume was a copper solution to darken them back to where they looked antique again and then proceeded to start the grinding and sanding process over. Am I missing something in the process.

      When I restore an object I want it to keep its original appearance.I dont want them to look new.After removing rust it become too shiny for my taste .So I copper plated a little to give an aged look .Then I removed excess copper.Thanks for watching

    I really enjoy this type of project but I don't understand why they are wrapped with cord. Seems awfully uncomfortable. 🤷

    • @AntiqueVintageRestoratioNs
      @AntiqueVintageRestoratioNs  Год назад

      I'm very happy that you liked the video. I think when using the wrap when the rusting process starts, they wrap it either to prevent the rust from getting into their hands or to cover the bad look of the scissors.💛💛

      Perhaps the person who used the scissors added the material to pad the handles so their hands were more comfortable when they used the scissors, maybe certain parts of the handle hurt their hands and the Mattison material eased that...just a thought 😊

      Tony these are coming from the same seller.I write antique, but in fact, these products do not have antique value and the seller do not want them to be sold as scrap.They are in this state because they are waiting in the open.I'm just making little touches for the thumbnail.(like highlighting the blues). Thanks for watching and taking your time to comment.

    Cutting paper with scissors dulls the blades. If you are going to use them on fabric, they will not cut as well.

    when you drilled out the nut and bolt, you destroyed the history of the scissors. shining the metal also erased the patina, it is like refinishing an 18th century piece of furniture. You did do a good job of returning it to new like condition, if that was your intention.
