You make me miss my SL haha. I probably missed out by not trying out a native L lens! Photos are gorgeous and definitely a good example of how nice the sensor and your editing skills are👍 always good to hold on to something that just works! Looking forward to your SL2 unboxing in the future😂
Haha! Don’t live in the past Samuel but also the native lenses are so huge and it would have probably just held you back from using it the way you were.
Love your pictures! Beautiful subjects, light, contrasts, composition and colors! Everything is beautiful. I also appreciate the fact that you took the time to appreciate the camera before making a video. I like that the video is not about specs but about how it makes you feel and what it has done for you. My journey with Leica started with the T with the 18-56 mm lens. The first time I took the combo out, I was already blown away and knew immediately I was gonna sell my other pro camera. The pictures were sharp and the rendering was just incredible. Recently, I got the SL with the 24-90 mm lens. I took it on a trip to a desert recently and shot raw and jpeg. The resolution of that lens was just incredible. I felt like I could count the grains of sand in a picture. I converted some of the pictures to b&w in Lightroom, and omg, the raw files were very pushable; and the tonality was so rich. I love my T, but the SL is on a different level.
First, I totally appreciate the slow burn camera reviews. The perspective of someone who has really lived with the camera - as a tool, as an ergonomic object, and as a vessel for creative expression - is always compelling. Studio tests are great, but this kind of review is even better. Also, I *feel* you about Bruce Davidson "Subway" book. It has been a well of inspiration for me for years as well. Thanks for taking the time to put work like this together!
Excellent photos, I’ve watched your video 3 times now and finally convinced me to buy the 24-90 for my new SL2-S. subscribed and looking forward to seeing what else you create.
Kind of wish you showed which lens was used with the photos. Anyway, Great photos, love the colors & that looked like a great trip. How did you hook up with the antique motorcycle crew?
Something really great about a big sturdy camera that just says "Let's F*ing get shit done." I am also considering the SL2 or 2S in the future but my current priority is that 35 cron asph v2. I would love a video on your thoughts about that lens too.
The SL2 has been what I've only been picking up ever since getting leica sl glass! It's truly amazing. It's a beast of a camera though and I just recently ordered a handgrip for my m10p in the hopes I would start picking it up again 😂
Hey. Amazing video and I love the SL2 as well. One question. Which monitors are you using in your desktop setup? Thank you for your answer and all the best ✌🏼
Your work has been super inspirational for me lately as I’m progressively discovering my style. Thank you for that. Also, I love when photographers show their work in product reviews because it validates their conclusions and also I learn so much seeing peoples’ work. Lastly, the camera that does it for me the way the X-Pro2 and SL2 do for you is the X-Pro3. I literally have it on me at all times and it does everything I need from wedding to street. Just amazing stuff and it being titanium, I have literally no durability worries lol. Good stuff man
Austin, thank you for the kind words! I couldn't agree more about showing the work. I much rather show a ton of pictures to establish quality then point the camera at a test setup to prove sensor quality. Thank you for the encouragement. My brother shoots with the X-Pro 3 and raves about it. I may need to trade my gear with him to show some Fuji content some love.
Love my SL2. Only issue I have found with it is despite all of my attempts at altering menu setup, the batteries go quick. Like really quick. As in planning to travel with this camera I feel like I need 4 batteries in a day. Any insights on that? Is it just me? Great video. Thanks for sharing.
Hello, can i ask you the brand of your adaptator for M Lens. I hesitate between Novoflex (or other brand) and the original Leica (more expensive). Is it a real différence between both ? Thanks for your respons.
Great that you're giving the SL2 some credits, I use it in my studio with the SL 24-90, files are absolutely amazing right out of the can. I haven't used it out on the street, but might now that I've watch this video :) Great work!
Cool talk, super nice series those photos, Interesting approach and steps with the SL2. In my case, I still have the X PRO2 I love it and continue to learn with it. I'll be really curious to try one day the Leica sl2, I have never tried any Leica either until now.
I'm similar, coming from Sony I bought a original SL and still holding on to my A9. But with time I find myself using the SL more and more. Probably a native lens would be a winner but financially I just got a Sigma 65mm and a 7artisan 35mm and a Panasonic 24-105 is on the way. If I'm still happy in a year then I'll safe up for the SL2S or even better for the SL3s(phase detection af is coming).. Let's dream forward :-)
Absolutely stunning photos! I love the colors and contrast of these shots and of course, your composition and experience is what makes a true difference. Also cool to see Jason Momoa in your shots as I believe he is another Leica fan. My "love camera". Nikon D700 when I had it and now the Lumix S1R though it's still new to me. I love to partnership of the L-alliance to be honest. As far as auto focus goes with Leica and Lumix DFD, most of the people who complain about it have never used it. They read "contrast detect" and go screaming. The S1R is blazing fast as well.
I love SL2 and using it since it was out.. using mostly voigtlander lenses. I am super curious what lens you used for the portrait at 6:52 man with glas and helmet... it’s such a great portrait.. loved the Colors and Low contrast.. just great
The best camera is always the one you bring with you. (Y Maintani). If I could afford it I defo get an SL2… for the time being Im gonna stay on spot with my EM1 MKII. 📷
Fantastic colors - absolutely great photos - I am blown away - I use and love my M10 P and M 240 - but these colors are unique - this is the older SL or the SL2 - shoot in DNG and what software ? Need to try this combo with the 24 -70 right? Thank for your answer - this video made my day
A new video, ha. Haven‘t seen one from you in a long time. Anyways, good to see again. Those colors are truly gorgeous ngl. To answer your question: my favorite camera to take to war is the Fuji X-H1. I‘ve shot with it in snowstorms, in rain pouring down like a waterfall and also (peaceful) protests. The camera survived without any damage. My other camera is the X-Pro3, and even though the X-Pro3 is as durable, and I have also shot it in heavy rain, I have a lot more confidence in the X-H1 for heavy weather.
Man I have two SL2S bodies and 5 lenses but my favorite lens to shoot on them is my 50mm Summarit! I’m buying the 90mm f/4 and the Voightlander 28mm f/2 but let me tell you peaking is the shit shooting M-Lenses! Don’t sleep on it!
I'm on Leica M240 with 50/Summilux and a Q. Have some R-lenses for the M240 too. That's all I need for my daily work as press photographer. Superb shots. Nice video.
i am considering an SL2 (most probably the S, as i already have the GFX for High MP) and i have not seen good sample shots of the 24-90 that convinced me, but your sample shots are awesome.
Welcome back!! Question: for something like the image at 9:05, are you throwing some fill flash back at them, bouncing sun off something behind camera, or is the SL2 just pulling the info outta the shadows even heavily backlit???
I have to say the xpro 2 is the camera I always gravitate back to. It’s just an amazing camera and I love the ergonomics. One day I’d like to get a Q-P though and give that a run. 🤙🏼 need to find a friend around the DMV area with one to run around with it for a day.
I picked up this camera ‘cuz I’m getting to an age where I’ve gotta get used to autofocus saving my butt due to “too fuzzy for rangefinders” eyesight. ☺️ But in the meantime it works pretty darn well with M lenses via the adapter. (Glad you got the peaking thing sorted!) Good to see you using it well.
Great seeing you making videos again Jason. These photos have a message and tell a story and as someone else said in the comment section, your eye is the gem in all of this not necessarily the camera. Although I get your point about gear. I've had my G.A.S. eye on the SL and SL-2 for some time but my pockets can only afford the Panasonic versions of these cameras the S1 and the S5. 🤣🤣🤣 That said, I dropped Fujifilm about 3 months ago as my main shooter and believe it or not went back to MFT and the Olympus brand. I needed a light kit and that X-H1 with lenses was killing my wrist and back. I still have an X-E2s which I use for street photography solely but any professional work is done on my OM-D E-M5 Mark II. Keep making art brother. In my opinion, you could do it with any camera system even if it were the Etchosketch camera. Stay blessed.
@@Stockezy I had the X-Pro1 and X-E3 for a few years. Loved those cameras but... The Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark II is the perfect size for my street work. I have an X-E2s and I'm never selling that one. Ha! As for the X-100 series, no. If I buy a digital fixed lens camera it will be a Leica Q2, which might happen later this year.
Do you shoot all your shots in Raw? I have been shooting JPG on the fuji system for a while but the way you have edited these shots are awesome and I would like to try get a similar look with my fuji
Cool video Jason ! The intro reminded me of "Django Unchained". Like this Street to tree photography idea. The images coming from from this camera are amazing.
All amazing shots dude..the Q-P definitely did the same for me.. something about the size and lens and color rendering on that camera really felt like I was finally getting the shots I wanted all my life... I picked the m10-p and sold the Q-P and it was the worst thing I could have done...with my bad eyesight (not getting better at 38) the evf is definitely something that helps...so I picked up a Q2 monochrom...so we'll see how that goes for me ...
I really enjoyed your video. Maybe I misunderstood your comment in the video, but focus assist works correctly with M lenses. I use an SL2 with my Leica 50mm M Summilux and focus assist/peaking works correctly. I'm using the Leica M to L adapter, not sure if the manufacturer M-adapter makes a difference or not, but the Leica version works correctly.
I’m enjoying my SL2-S and your photos are inspiring me! How do you like using M lenses on your SL2? I want to trade up my Cron 35 for a Lux 35. It’s addictive!
I love shooting the M glass on the SL. I totally understand that need to upgrade but I've made peace with my summicron simply because I never try to focus them wide open for the type of photos I take.
@@Stockezy I’m also trying to make peace with my summicron since it is so small and light. I only recently got the camera so I should probably try to stick it out for a while. Like you said, if shooting on the street, I usually stop down and zone focus, and if I was in search of “bokeh” I would probably be using a different lens altogether. Keep sharing videos! You really have no idea how much it helps me get off my lazy butt. If you have the time to shoot jobs, shoot for pleasure, and then post videos about it, then I really have no excuses! ;-)
Nice video. Love my SL2-S and it's quickly becoming my favorite M camera lol :) ...Not sure what you mean when adapting M lenses and not having focus assist. I use my m lenses on my SL2-S all the time, I push in the joystick to zoom in and have focus peaking on red high. If your not seeing the focus peaking then check your profile settings and make sure it's on to show on viewfinder/lcd.
I enjoy my SL. Got it barely used (store demo) late last year. Leica seem to just get how something should feel in hand if you are going to use it all the time. Ergos plus design equals enjoyment.
thanks for another great video. Would like to try a Leica if it wasn't for the budget. The truth is, i absolutely fell in love with the X-Pro2 "again", since i swapped the 23F2 with the 23mm F1.4. Thank you and hope to see more videos soon! :)
@@Stockezy a little but it was just as you said I wear glasses and I bought an M10, it was a disaster for me and i returned it the next day, i need the evf.
Those some amazing photos. If the Leica L-mount lenses seem too big and heavy, there are other options. Sigma makes the Contemporary I series for L-mount. I own the 45mm f2.8 & 35mm f2 and they're both pretty small.
Inkeltech Desk Mounting Stand - 12.0-19.5 inch Adjustable Tabletop Aluminum Light Stand with 1/4" Screw Tip for Ring Light, Video Light, DSLR, Action Camera www.amazon.com/dp/B087CS83C2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_0R496KWRGBWZHTH0J40E?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 It’s just ok. Kinda cheap and wobbly.
I love my trusty Nikon's D800 series of cameras. I live in Finland, and I had to use those cameras in -30°C the cameras worked perfectly, the user not so much. Pouring rain of the fall, the burning heat of the summer, it's all the same. Camera works flawlessly. On my personal time in a casual photography I like to use Fuji X100v and film cameras.
I've used it a few times for video and the LOG footage is gorgeous. I shot it side by side on a gig with the BMPCC 4k and the footage synced beautifully.
@@Stockezy Thanks! Curious if you found any good sources on how best to process the Log footage? Haven’t found much content online so appreciate any tips.
Being in Florida and everything being open since last May and with all the festivals and bike week last week it’s been one of my best years for photography
totally agree with your observations. Leica haters often forget that it s not just about the final photo but the journey to get there .no one critisize Cartier for making expensive watches that give the same time as small Casio ones ..ahah . Do you really find a significant color difference with lets say the Q-P ? is it depth of color / richness or accuracy ..?? thanks
I find the files of the SL2 to be more robust when it comes to manipulating colors. The QP files are just as gorgeous but when I start to play around things can get funky. With that said I was also completely in love with the QP files. I never really shot anything that needed this much processing with that camera. I used it for mostly street and would never ever ever bring it to the desert on a shoot like this.
@@Stockezy yep I get it . Also , since I created profiles with xrite and a software called Lumariver the colours of my Q-P are just much richer and true to life . ( compared to suing Xrite own software . )
@@Stockezy Downsized to the XE3, mainly for street and travel. I found I wasn’t taking the 6D out of it’s bag as often as I should because it felt kinda awkward in those environments
That's a Sneaky one. You use the SL2 as a Trojan Horse to show us these absolutely gorgeous pictures. 😍 Good decision of Leica to lend you some cameras. An SL2 would be a dream the colors of this camera are absolutely amazing. Until then I trust my Leica M6 & M3 for most of my work.
Leicas are about photography.. not gadgets... I have always felt a special pride in the photographs I make (have made) with a Leica from my first M2 in the early 1960's to current SL2 & M10
@@Stockezy I have over two years, patiently shopped on eBay and assembled a collection of four . . . the Elmarit 100 Macro, the APO 180 Elmarit, the 80 Lux and the 50 Lux . . . all later serial numbers in mint condition. They are all truly remarkable lenses - I guess it depends on your personal photographic preferences? I think the 100 macro is perhaps the best macro ever made - period!! (and it does great portrait and landscape too) . . the 80 Lux is a legend. They are all superb. With the focus peaking in the EVF on the SL cameras, the R manuals are very easy to use and nail focus with.
Can anybody explain me such a fascination for a Panasonic in disguise? I might understand the appeal behind a M rangefinder, but this is just another DSLM … which price has been tripled after application of a red dot😄
You forgot to mention full metal housing, faster AF, built in lens profiles that control distortion and more stringent testing for lens imperfections… I think more people are fascinated by saying it’s a Sigma lens (not Panasonic). I could careless, I prefer the leica branding first and foremost because I love the brand and the brands history. I’ll pay the premium for a red dot any day because I also know the customer service that comes with it.
You can use focus assist with this camera! Silly mistake! Sorry!
If you use the Leica M to SL mount adapter then 6 bit M lenses will communicate with the SL range :)
Even with a non-leica adapter you can programme in which lens. Focus peaking definitely works with m-lenses

Any consideration for the SL2-S? Just the low light ability is very appealing for stills.

How about in low light environment? How was the cameras performance? Is there a lot of noise? Or it still sharp and crisp?
Not great to be honest. If that’s a concern the SL2-S is a much better option.

Thanks for sharing! I misspoke there! My apologies.
Awesome video.
Any clue where to buy that Pearce Motorcycle Co. Jacket @2:00?
It’s actually a coverall and it’s vintage so I don’t know if you’ll find that anywhere.
@@Stockezy Ughhh it's AMAZING.
I figured that out today! Sorry for the mix-up!
I need to get my hands on the SL2-S
I enjoy my SL. Got it barely used (store demo) late last year. Leica seem to just get how something should feel in hand if you are going to use it all the time. Ergos plus design equals enjoyment.
that sl2 is a beauty bro! gfx50s has been my work horse ... everything about it is perfect for me 🙏🏽
Also such an incredible camera. I really didn’t get enough time with that before Leica entered my life.
Hello from mother Russia! New fav channel for me
Stunning photography 👌🏻
great video and beautiful stills. I picked up an SL2-S recently and haven't touched any of my film bodies (which is what I shot mostly) since.
Congrats on the new rig! That camera is so tempting. I need to give it a spin.
thanks for another great video. Would like to try a Leica if it wasn't for the budget. The truth is, i absolutely fell in love with the X-Pro2 "again", since i swapped the 23F2 with the 23mm F1.4. Thank you and hope to see more videos soon! :)
Good choice! I only used the 23 f1.4 a few times and I regret not owning that puppy.
Xpro 2 still has my heart 🙏🏾
I still think about her. haha
Great work. I just purchased the older SL and love it.
Glad you're digging it! Did Samuel influence that decision?
@@Stockezy a little but it was just as you said I wear glasses and I bought an M10, it was a disaster for me and i returned it the next day, i need the evf.
Bro I’m wish you on this one, I just got a new sl2s along with my SL and I have no complaints
Congrats on the new rigs!
Those some amazing photos.
If the Leica L-mount lenses seem too big and heavy, there are other options. Sigma makes the Contemporary I series for L-mount. I own the 45mm f2.8 & 35mm f2 and they're both pretty small.
Thanks for the suggestion. While I don't mind the heft when shooting something on a set I never bring them out in the streets. I'll check them out!
Hey bro what is that desk stand you have for your camera behind your moniter? Thanks and much love
Inkeltech Desk Mounting Stand - 12.0-19.5 inch Adjustable Tabletop Aluminum Light Stand with 1/4" Screw Tip for Ring Light, Video Light, DSLR, Action Camera www.amazon.com/dp/B087CS83C2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_0R496KWRGBWZHTH0J40E?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
It’s just ok. Kinda cheap and wobbly.
@@Stockezy thanks mate appreciate it 👍
damn i'm such a fan of your work fam!! Yeah I'm in love with the SL2-S. fantastic camera
Thank you brother! You definitely put that SL2-S on my radar. Can’t wait to check it out.
I sold a few Fuji gear to get my first Leica (m10-p) but I’ve been thinking about getting another xpro 2.
Not happy with the M10P?
I love my trusty Nikon's D800 series of cameras. I live in Finland, and I had to use those cameras in -30°C the cameras worked perfectly, the user not so much. Pouring rain of the fall, the burning heat of the summer, it's all the same. Camera works flawlessly.
On my personal time in a casual photography I like to use Fuji X100v and film cameras.
Thanks the way to do it!
Do you use the SL2 for video? If so, do you shoot log?
I've used it a few times for video and the LOG footage is gorgeous. I shot it side by side on a gig with the BMPCC 4k and the footage synced beautifully.
@@Stockezy Thanks! Curious if you found any good sources on how best to process the Log footage? Haven’t found much content online so appreciate any tips.
Those photos are ridiculous! The colors have this vibrant gel feel to them. Beautiful stuff.
I have an autographed copy of Bruce Davidson's Subway - amazing work, amazing book. ❤️
You've got me searching for one on Ebay now!
@@Stockezy I got mine years ago at an Aperture Foundation book talk and signing. ❤️
Glad that your back but I don’t appreciate you trying to pry me away from a GFX 100S as the next studio camera 🤣
Haha! The switch makes total sense. You'd only lose a couple Mega-Pickles!
Also you can use focus leaking with M lens I have the older SL and to change it to have to press the bottom right button a few times
Thank you! Which right button do you mean? I’m going to try this out now.
Figured it out! Thank you. 🙏🏾
Love the ending, feels like every awkward Zoom call (chef's kiss included)
Haha!
Hold up...when you adapt M lens, you can NOT focus peak????
I was very wrong. My apologies!
@@Stockezy I almost already went and cancel my SL2-s order :D
Nice photos 👍
Love your videos bro!! Keep doing it 💪
Colour rendition is also very much affected by the glass. Leica glass has a reputation for a reason.
bruh. That call out. 👌🏾
I'm shook. Lol.
Haha! Should have put you in the beginning credits as a producer. 😂
Being in Florida and everything being open since last May and with all the festivals and bike week last week it’s been one of my best years for photography
I can't imagine the chaos of street photographer in NYC when things go back to normal.
totally agree with your observations.
( compared to suing Xrite own software . )
would you consider showing us how you edited those photos ??
0:27 what song is that ? 😳
leica loaning you a sl2,
what's next leica making a special edition stokezy sl2? :)
🤩 a guy can dream?!
Love the intro 🔥👏
9:06 is just bonkers
It’s the Canon 6D for me. Sold it when I switched to Fuji but I still miss it sometimes
Definitely a workhorse. What did you switch to?
@@Stockezy Downsized to the XE3, mainly for street and travel. I found I wasn’t taking the 6D out of it’s bag as often as I should because it felt kinda awkward in those environments
That's a Sneaky one. You use the SL2 as a Trojan Horse to show us these absolutely gorgeous pictures. 😍 Good decision of Leica to lend you some cameras. An SL2 would be a dream the colors of this camera are absolutely amazing. Until then I trust my Leica M6 & M3 for most of my work.
Haha! It's all about the photos. I don't mind talking about the cameras but I hate specs and camera sensor comparisons.
@@Stockezy yes me too, too bad that youtube and the whole algorithm is so product-oriented that you have to be so creative to get around this problem.
9:06 !!! Print it. Frame it. Sell it. Hang it. Done and done !!!
Leicas are about photography.. not gadgets... I have always felt a special pride in the photographs I make (have made) with a Leica from my first
M2 in the early 1960's to current SL2 & M10
Well said Stuart!
CRAZY about my SL2-S (with vintage R lenses).
Those vintage R lenses are all the rage. Might grab one. Which would you suggest?
🔥🔥🔥
Love the vid. I’m getting Roman’d, but my wallet is checking me.
Your wallet is telling you to cop two! 👌🏾
Can anybody explain me such a fascination for a Panasonic in disguise? I might understand the appeal behind a M rangefinder, but this is just another DSLM … which price has been tripled after application of a red dot😄
You forgot to mention full metal housing, faster AF, built in lens profiles that control distortion and more stringent testing for lens imperfections…
I think more people are fascinated by saying it’s a Sigma lens (not Panasonic). I could careless, I prefer the leica branding first and foremost because I love the brand and the brands history. I’ll pay the premium for a red dot any day because I also know the customer service that comes with it.
Is that Jason Momoa in the desert??
A7ii Zeiss 55 is the combo that works for me.
Cool content! "So long" however ? its not even 2 yo....
