Welcome back to another episode of RAC's Corner! In today's episode, Coach RAC Talks About Flowing Like Water and the benefits it serves.
Bruce Lee talks about becoming "like water". To flow like water on the ball field, we must have a fearless mentality. Any inhibitions will mess with our flow and ultimately mess with our performance.
Bruce Lee was right about needing to be like water. Martial artists and baseball players need to flow like water. That’s how you MAXIMIZE athleticism. But well intentioned coaches often won’t let their players flow like water because they keep doing this one thing. And it’s the reason their players underperform.
I promise this is how to get the most out of your players in game.
When I was a wedding photographer I would take photos of people who loved photos and hated photos. Stick with me here. But by the end of the day, everyone always looked their absolute best in their photos. Why? Because I would make them comfortable.
I’d take a photo that they maybe felt awkward in, and maybe even looked awkward in, But i would give them some instruction on how to pose, and say fantastic job you nailed it, and move on to the next spot. If I told them “hey you look awkward, loosen up”. They would be more self conscious and wouldn’t be able to relax and FLOW.
On the ball field if a coach says something like “you look unathletic, stop swinging at bad pitches, stop walking everyone, you don’t look ready to play today.” Players have a much harder time “flowing” if you want the best out of your players, give them confidence and express your belief, then watch them flow.
