Bold of you to assume my first build works
i always go for some sh1t that will definitely not work as my first build and my second build is my actual league starter.

I never sell my first build to fund a second build. Ever. That one thing maybe delays the second build a bit but it prevents me from playing myself. Once the second, or third, build functions well I might start selling off items that have value.
I've bricked entire leagues selling my starter. I can't emphasize enough how important it is to never remove power. Invest into yourself and only accrue the interest
yep every time i sell off my starter thinking i'll get a better build for 60ish divines or w/e, it's the beginning of the end for me. Promised myself not to do it this league because I haven't had this much fun with a league mechanic in a long time. I'm still on my league starter, and have no plans to reroll anytime soon.
Indeed the only way to really screw yourself is if you do sell everything to fund the second character grinding a bit more with that league starter is typically FAR smarter.
Why? Just farm the rest of what you need.
I also wanted to say, a whole video and lots of talk, conclusion, don't throw away the starter before your endgame build performs good enough. Don't quit your job, before you got a new one, same applies to partners ? :p

I got lucky with stacked decks and reliquary keys to fund my second build, however the third build is what was breaking me
You can always make currency in hideout, even if your build doesn't work properly yet, like flipping, crafting, sextant rolling etc

If you really want people to quit the league, tell em to go click sextants in their hideout.
Or doing a low tier Memories for small profit, like Breach one or Abyss. can always just farm essences and beasts for something like 5 hours and you ready to go.

slap all essence nodes and just speed run these prep 60 maps in a dump tab and just go 1 min per map just clicking essences and you can make bank on a pretty weak build
thats like half an inventory of essences each map with the league craft
I never understood rolling sextants, you're basically doing slave labour for slave pay and it's never been less rewarding than this league IMO, you can do almost any content you want and print divines this league really easy and actually have fun

My issue is, not just poe but with other games is, i get bored and would always want to try another build no matter how strong/fun the first build is
Same here I finish the campaign, do a few maps then get bored and want to try something else, it's my first proper league so I guess will take a bit to find my fav archetype but still It's getting bad
Same here LOL I've spent 900 hours in Baldur's Gate 3 playing and rerolling builds but I haven't finished the campaign yet.

Normally my 1st character lasted to yellow map then got bored. Tried 2nd one to red map then got bored. Tried 3rd one to boss but failed then quit. Never finished more than 2 voidstones lol
I had a real juicy t16 map on my leaguestarter and dropped a few divines, 2 Valdo's boxes, a voidborn key, and tons of other currency. I got the FOMO and tried to farm up an MF char but I'm a little short of power to run the t16's and now I'm floundering a bit. All good points in the video I can relate to.
Just do the t7 strat

I have one more point to add why a built might suck. •) If your pc can't handle dots (poisons) on 100+++ targets you shouldn't play it or avoid atlas strategies that involve them e.g Big Bomba Expedition. unless you are into za warudo fights

Been putting together tunas fulcrum build. Every time i think ive purchasd the most expensive part, i find something even more expensive.
Got all the equipment and i just looked at prices of charms, clusters, and the gloriois vanity or w/e its called. Got dayum, i need to farm a lot more.
Normally, i dont play a 2nd build but this league's mechanic is tempting me

Subtractem made a good point in one of his videos about why content creators put so much emphasis on uniques like Lightning Coil, rather than rare gear. It's because you can't craft Lightning Coil incorrectly. There are way better rare items for your build that you can craft, but the majority of players don't know how to craft, so that's why items like Lightning Coil always show up in league starter videos, even though it's possible to craft much, much better rare items.
Nah, cuz content creators spend more time in a day then most people do the whole league....
If it's about Lightning Coil it's because Lightning Coil is actually insane on Pathfinders. Phys taken as ele is a ridiculously good defensive layer on PF.
@@JVL1988 It's not abot just Lightning Coil, but if you want to make it about Lightning Coil, you can.
LC isn't the end-all be-all for all builds, but it is a very good item for all builds in the early stages of the game, and more importantly, you can't screw up the crafting on it like you can on a rare item, which is why it is much easier to put into a build guide for a league starter. A player with under 2k hours in the game isn't going to know enough to craft a strong body armour that competes with LC, and it's better to assume the majority of players that are viewing the guide don't have the crafting experience needed to craft a rare, even though it might be better for the build overall.
If you look at the top 10 PF on poe ninja, only 5 of them are using LC. And that's just for PF. You can check the other ascendancies and I'll bet the majority of them are using something other than LC, with a good deal of them being rare chests, which have far greater potential than LC.
This applies to more items as well, not just Lightning Coil. Kikazaru and Lavianga's Spirit are other examples of league starter items that are great for getting your maps done, but can be upgraded with rares, fixed with jewels, or Clusters later on. You just have to have the know-how and it's safer to assume that the majority of the players that are looking up league starting guides are probably not going to have that.
Well I mean if you need Phys conversion its VERY hard to craft a better defensive chest than lightning coil. But yeah on Trade there is a reason why you see so many uniques being used in beginner guids
@@panda93247 But well thats just a terrible comparison honestly XD. Obviously Lightning coil is insanely strong, FAR stronger defensively than any rare chest you can craft on characters that usually dont scale armor. And on every Build that scales ES or Armour, lightning coil is straight up bad compared to a good Rare body armour. If lightning coil and Taste of Hate are your only phys reductions then they are BiS 100% of the time. And the more phys reduction you have on other gear pieces or from your tree the better any non LC Armor becomes.
You dont use lightning coil because you cant mess it up, you use it because its one of the best defensive Chests in the Game, especially on Pathfinder with perma Taste of Hate
I don't know, this sounds out of touch but I might be the one out touch.
1. Who farms 200d on their league starter? Juicers, yea but most people don't do that. People play a lot the entire league and don't make that much during the entire thing. I'd argue people reroll a second build with 20d at most.
2. Who sells off builds? You keep them so you have fall backs and each can specialize or respec into something.
3. Who dumps money into luxury upgrades like awakened gems before it even starts? Those are marginal upgrades at best. Just use the normal versions, the upgrade isn't that significant to bankrupt yourself over. They make a good build better but won't fix a bad one.
4. You don't have to juice, at all. I think people forget this part. I'd argue the game is far more enjoyable without all the bullshit on the screen, in grayscale running at 15fps. You need very specific builds to do all the juice and this limits what you can do and what is "viable". You don't need 200mill dps with 200k ehp. You need 2m dps and 20k ehp and you can most of the endgame just fine.
This mindset opens up much of the game and there is so much more you can do, for far less in currency. If you haven't yet, watch builds from non-racers or min-maxes. There are a bunch of content creators that only do meme or medium investment builds. Mathil's builds are the perfect middle ground of meme and uber viable and he ususally rerolls for under 10d and crafts his own gear.
Sorry for the rant, it just feels like the player base is playing a completely different game from the content creators sometimes.

Some poe rules that i follow:
- Always, i mean ALWAYS. Your farm is your major priority. Do not spend a single chaos before letting your farm up and running.
- I never sell any of my main build items. Always have a safe place to go back.
I mean your first point is accurate Endgame, when you have a mapping strat you wanna do. Buying an upgrade with all your currency like an HH and then having no currency to invest back into mapping is stupid. But Saying dont spend a single chaos before your farm is up and running is just not true for anyone but Endgame Map hustlers that setup intricate and juiced grinding strats. You need less than 2-3 divines to get almost every single Farm up and running except for endgame bossing and high tier map juicing
Usually my first character sucks, the second character is usually best in the league.

That was me lol, re rolled into magic find and quit.
Yeah I play off meta. Storm burst decay. It is a lot of DOT for a single hit. And you can just run around without attacking for 20 seconds. Or you can facetank everything because you hit a billion times per second. 20 cast per secone 13 second duration, they jump every 0.4 second. So that is 650 hits per seconds at maximun stack. Sure decay only works once, but the more damage keeps up. So now you poisoon if you want. How many poisions recently 2600. How do I make sure all hits hit the target? AOW is bugged and the spread is not affected by increases in AOE but the jumping explosions are affected.
Switched to brand inquis from srs... Started boss farming
Might have 100+ div by the end of the day
But what then? Invest all in the build and continue farming?(sounds boring... But good currency wise ig?)
Orrrrr build a new magic find character? (Haven't tried before, might regret it and hate myself)
Am I a total outlyer here? This shit has never happened to me. I have never made crazy currency on my league starter, probably, because I don't no-life the league start and I don't trade much. Normally I make like 1-2 divines on my first char, before I look into starting a 2nd char in search for something I might enjoy more. Happened to me this league again. Started the CA of poison pathfinder and found only 1 divine. Then I started a double strike champion to check out the transfigured versions of that skill gem and could put together something workable with that 1 divine from my league starter. Funnily that champion found a mirror of kalandra in a tier2 map. So I guess now I can investigate what to play next. Sadly it looks like GGG didn't make any of the stuff I like into a great new gem, so I'm actually struggeling to decide what to do.
I respecced my SA/CA Balista Pathfinder to Penance Brand. Before switching I calculated every needed item and made sure I have enough currency to buy what I need. But buying and checking suff (damn you seed numbers!!!) took me so much time that I could not finish shopping in one day and some prices went alot up or some things I misscalculated and had to cut few important pieces and repalce them with some placeholder items.
Overall I'm still happy with the switch but my build is not that good like it should be and need abit more farming and adjustment.
I can say I never run into this problem, because I have probably the opposite problem. Just like in real life I try to save currency, so I keep playing on a relatively small budget, stall for a second build or actually just play one build the entire league :D But yeah I recognize a lot in this video in guildies of mine, some even thinking they can reroll day 2 in a juicer while they just expect everything will be available.
These are the videos we need. I'm so sick of seeing walls of "make 12 div per hour with this strat" bullshit. I tried to start Scion Smite Armor Stacker on day 4 with a budget of 15 div... then got pissed when I couldn't kill the boss on tier one maps, so I went to the builders discord and made a total ass out of myself. Needless to say i went back to boneshatter and started farming up what I really need to make the Stacker work. Great Video.
I started my 2nd build before Xmas, I had 50div to finish my build, I came back online yesterday and everything tripled in price, 5 way costs 1 div per run.

By the time you saw that video all the essential gear prices went up 1000% and you have to pay unreasonable amount of currency for the build

I don't know how to craft and am always poor, so I can't buy good items nor craft (because crafting is expensive and I am dumb)
I successfully practice the exodia method: Get together all the essential pieces that make your build work first, then check for attribute requirements and res gear. Only once you have a stable frame of items ready do you actually switch. While it is true that levelling awakened gems right away would be nice, i wouldnt delay a new build waiting to finally get the currency together to for example expensive awakened spell cascade or something. it is fine to swap later aswell
My two rules when it comes to making a new build:
1 keep at least one build fully functional so you don't hard lock yourself until you have done major changes
2 keep some change on hand so you can get back to generating currency if you underestimated the cost. Unless you do some alch + go shenanigans that doesn't need no capital.
that way you will never deadlock yourself

Think you're losing a lot of ppl by saying they invested 30 div on their second character. Maybe scale that back to like 5 div if that
Just don't dismantle your first build unless you're giving the items to another character. Problem solved.
And that's why I don't sell the first build. Not to mention that it's fun to re-live rhe journey sometimes and fund it frlm scratch

I feel that it's the complete opposite for a SSF player. I keep a bunch of gear that I feel would be great for a different build as I go through content on my starter. and when I get enough pieces, I'll reroll a new character that would synergize with the gear I found.

Here I am sitting with my first ever Mageblood and 60divs feeling all my "second chars" suck. And I call this at 70-80lvl... So I guess I lack persistence 😅

1:26 I think this is the thing that puts me off PoE as a not _new_ but certainly not particularly experienced player. The fund for whatever my second build is what I personally farm _in currency_ while completing my atlas minus what I have to spend _in currency_ on gear and unique maps, because figuring out what to sell, for how much, listing, and constantly going back to hideout to trade, or sit for a while after listing while not playing the game, is. not. fun.
I have 5 maybe 10 div _at most_ by the time my atlas is complete and ready to transition to bossing. At which point I'm like 5-6 days into the league and find that any build I'm looking at is 10-20 _times_ what I can afford. It's a fundamental disconnect between content/guide makers and people that actually want or need a guide to figure out how to get good enough to actually do the pinnacle content.
i started totem pf CAoP and SA menance, keep dying at tier7-8 maps, have 6 totem, asenath glove, wilma. the build came to my hand just did not work. and worst CA/SA in my build is slow and 0 raw divine drop. finally saw a cheap TS build from ninja, reroll at level 80 to 5link TS, farming chaos recipe saving up for rings, belt, doryani t-shirt, and lack of xp as bought wrong belt with +lightning resistance, keep farming until convert doryani build DE TS, earlier glass canon start to have fast clear capability and raw divine strat to drop. now finish T16 maps, left few unique maps to be cleared. aiming second tanky build for boss.
Agreed. My Guild buddy is now on his third char that isn't working out and still calls me stupid for still playing my League Starter because I want to make sure my next char works from the get go.
I have made and leveled 4 builds since I started, and I started on the 21th. Almost a new build every single day, I did manage to scrap together 35 divines despite spending more time leveling than mapping, my atlas progress is bad. But I have my 15div bow defianfe of destiny, bloohnotch, lightnig coil, taste of hate, caustic arrow of poisoning build up and running.
I did not understand why my damage was so horrible, then I checked and saw 62% chance to hit. Then I reached 99% chance to hit, and it felt good. And I also used my manaforge arrow setups. Deapair on hit, and all annoint. I played the build most of today with galavanic arrow and storm rain as my only manaforge, with 50% chance to poision and maybe 70% chance to hit, and I could not understand what I did wrong. xD good think i did not sell my gear for profit and went inti a penance brand build. That was my plan.

I transitionned into another build too early because SRS was boring to me and ended with a build with lots of problems when you try to budget it
My first friend quit after switching his original skill into a new one, but SRS guardian is less tanky than SRS necro and he was pissed to not be able to clear content
My second friend quit because the league mechanic was too hard and pretty unclear before all the videos came out explaining the mechanic like on week two... And concluded that the league wasn't interresting because of the insane difficulty.... Which I agree somehow, it's kinda sad to play a league without playing it's mechanic, but if it stays on the Atlas Tree after, it could become really cool as an "end-game option"... But as league mechanic, sad that we couldn't adjust the difficulty it was adding...
My Cleave of Rage really isn't that great atm, I feel like making a poison Pathfinder will help me more to push further. League mechanic makes maps so difficult.

Had a casual HH drop with my Toxic Rain starter. Sold it. Bought Nimis for 32 divs and i'm 100% building my next builds around it.

Jw, do you level up in white maps to yellow then red like a natural progression or 5 way right after campaign/story mode? Or do you invest enough to go straight to t14 or something like that?
Good video. I had big fomo seeing people juice, while I had started the league a few days late, and was doing some humble alch n go city square farming. Knew I had to stick it out on ballistas for longer than I wanted to in order to avoid this exact problem. Made enough for a fulcrum build + 15 ish divines on mapping materials and it was off to the races. Paid for that build and probably two or three times over the next day
Could have gone horribly wrong had I rerolled with nothing for a chieftain but the staff and spent more days waffling

My second character this league was actually my best in quite a long time. I've gotten to level 92 for the first time.

I always try my own builds instead of playing a meta but my knowledge of the game really limits me.
Thats exact what happend to me, i switched from ts to hexblast mines with like 60 divs and it felt soo weak, i sold the gear back and switched back to ts haha

the part about having to adjust has never happened to me since I always get all the items I need for the new build to be at least 20% better before starting a new character and then reroll for just currency I will use down the line after my new build is functional
i reroll too early from DD elementalist (not even eater's watchstone, fuck hunger boss) because i was having so much trouble with the 2 button setup, my pc is low tier so with some random fps drops I fucked up so much on 2 button playstyle.

i played dd last league after hearing about it for so long and absolutely hated it, and I hear a lot of people say the same. I guess the numbers are still good on it (despite being nerfed a lot) but it just feels like ass to play. Pal's CA build felt like a dream compared to dd

Every item will be miles more expensive on console, and just don't spend money on console stash tabs because they don't transfer to pc

Biggest problem is that Poe does not really have good low cost mid to early high tier gear. it jumps from trash to divines. Ok chest from 5 link to 6 links is already high cost. Because high need of fusings. There is actually no over flow of 6 links in market. I think it would be good for beginners. If need for fusing would be lowered for 6 linking. Making 6 link currency crafting actually viable in earlier in the game. Also lowering staring cost for second build. High tier gear is already really inflated.
I didn't see movie yet, but I assume usually it's because people spend less time on second character. Based on my experience when I finish campaign I put gg items and want to do uber juicy content. But I need to level up more, spend more time on character. Ps I will watch movie later.
