Yep, one of the best bits ever. Had it on my "keeper" tapes. Made me very sentimental watching this again. This era was the best. More please!

Thank you Thank You Thank you for this. I started watching Dave in 1987 when I was 8 years old so I never caught this when it aired. Dave was and still is the GOAT. Things like this confirm it for eternity! May god bless him for the anarchic joy he has brought to my life. The genius switch was never off.

TV Nerd alert: These episodes that were shot in Studio 8H instead of 6A in the summer of '86 look the best technical wise out of Dave's whole run on NBC.

This is a much better copy than my VHS tape recorded over the air (my parents held out on cable for another four years.) Dave spent the summer of 1986 taping in Studio 8H while 6A underwent renovations. At the 12:46 mark the entrance and support beams appear familiar. Just before this, you can see the raised seating just like in 6A.
For anyone with insider knowledge, was 8H dismantled completely, or was the ‘SNL’ balcony concealed behind what look to be black curtains? Thanks.

My favourite telephone bit they ever did was "What's The Deal With Ross Perot?" It failed 4 nights in a row then paid off amazingly well on the fifth night.

KTHI in Fargo was originally ABC until it swapped with WDAY and got NBC in 1983. So when this episode of Letterman aired, it was only about 3 years into its NBC affiliation. KTHI changed its call letters to KVLY in '95. It was also the first station in the Fargo market to go HD (in '05)!
We all know Letterman moved to CBS in '93, and coincidentally in Fargo, our NBC and CBS (KXJB) stations merged under the same roof and ownership ("Valley News Live"/VNL).
