Jeff Lynne is the most talented Music God ever. He will be 71 in 2018 and his voice is Gold. All his live concerts sound as good if not better than the original recordings...Not many bands and musicians can match that. Just have a listen from Jeff Lynne's ELO at Wembley Stadium June 24 2017... Can't wait to see Jeff Lynne's Electric Light Orchestra on the 2018 Europe and North American Tour. Uh, "Let It Be" was written entirely by Paul.. the only reason why it's labeled as a Lennon/McCartney song is because it was in their contract that any song they wrote either by themselves or together would be credited as "Lennon/McCartney".
Well to make it into the top 10 you had release singles which Zeppelin never did because they wanted people to listen to the whole album and not just whichever two songs were released as a single.

+RGS Unless you are from the UK they topped the chart with Bohemian Rhapsody in '75 and was the biggest hit of the year. I think this list is more based on the American charts..
For the fun of it I went to Wiki to see the list of all #1 hits in the 70's. First of all, I can't imagine how Mojo got it boiled down to 10 plus 4. Secondly, the variety of genres that reached #1 shows the breadth of music in the 70's: rock, country, Funk, folk, pop, early punk, disco, novelty, religious (remember "You Light Up My Life"?),, etc.
I'm amazed how many people can not understand the topic of this list. Did you even read the title.? It's about US chart topping rock songs in the 70s, therefore Queen, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd etc. are not included because they didn't have any
As a child of the 70s, I could list 50 songs that belong in the top ten, but I couldn't definitively put them in the proper order. I can't argue with the list they have, though. That's what's so hard about making a list about 70s music - there was so many great tunes.
When i Think Of 70s Songs I Think If you Want Blood You Got it We will Rock you Spread Your Wings Don t stop me now You are the first my last My Everything
Ok, I see a lot of people wanting to find where Led Zep, Stairway to Heaven and Bohemian Rhapsody is, but the vieo is about CHART TOPPING songs. Unfortunately done of them reached number one. They may be critically acclaimed and brilliant, but none meet the criteria.
My Sharona...I love....AM radio I grew up on but the Knack was big when I was in Junior High. They paved the way to the 80s and into the nineties...I still love Elton John, The Eagles, Guess Who and the Who(not mentioned!!!)
I was surprised that they didn't really seem to understand "American Pie". Don Mclean himself said many times that is was a tribute to the 3 musicians that died in 1959 when their plane went down. Richie Valens, Big Bopper, and Buddy Holly.
+etni3s1 I agree. But Led Zeppelin's highest rate was number 4 with Whole Lotta Love in January 1970. As for Black Sabbath, Iron Man (highest ranking song) only reached #52.
867-5309 (Jenny) by Tommy Tuntone has has HUGE cultural significance... as now in TV and movies, all phone numbers now start with 555- That, and it's a seriously sick song.
That's not what American Pie is about. Did you guys research? It's based on the horrific plane crash on February 3, 1959 killing artists Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and The Big Bopper.
The most ridiculous part of this is that they had Buddy Holly This Will Be The Day in their 50s music version of this video that they put out recently.
The Bee Gees were the most influential and successful of the decade. It’s amazing to see them being ignored all the time. None of the artists listed had more number ones in the 70’s. They wrote almost 13 number ones and performed on 9.
+Good Comment I think i'm not sure but Janis maybe had a hold of this song long before pearl ever hit the recording studio, so she had time to craft it. i'm sorry if this didn't help
Hers wasn't the original, that came out in 69. So she probably heard it, fell in love with the song and performed it live a few times until the guy who wrote it originally, asked her to record it for that album that was released after she died...
After reading the comments something to consider is that some of the best bands and artists like Led Zeppelin or David Bowie didn't have all of their songs at number 1. In fact it was Led Zeppelin's albums that were number 1. Some of the best music is not always on the charts, and as good as the music from the 70's were some of the great artists proved themselves to the world by not having hits and then made it big anyway by their talent and charisma.
Cool Top Ten lists of the Rock Songs of the 70's .I got the year wrong when it came to the song Let it Be ,I was wrong by one year .It is still one of my fav Beatles songs of all time .Just the No 1 song on this list ,This post is a little late to the party .But I did watch the first time and not post anything ,When I should have can't see the songs from the 80's & 90's .Another whole part of my life .That was actually cool WatchMojo Thanks .
When I think of 70s rock songs I think:
-Hotel California
-Bohemian Rhapsody
-Stairway to Heaven
at least hotel was there
Dream on too

Well, these were the 'bubblegum' of the 70s, being #1 on the pop chart. I don't think Zepplin ever had a #1, and Hendrix only had 1.

I hate bohemian rhapsody

I miss how you cant get the full music video of Let it Be on youtube anymore since they took it down.
Let it be
We need like 3 more Another "Top 10 Billboard Chart Topping Rock Songs Of The 80s"
As a child of the 70s, I could list 50 songs that belong in the top ten, but I couldn't definitively put them in the proper order. I can't argue with the list they have, though. That's what's so hard about making a list about 70s music - there was so many great tunes.
When i Think Of 70s Songs I Think
If you Want Blood You Got it
We will Rock you
Spread Your Wings
Don t stop me now
You are the first my last My Everything
Ok, I see a lot of people wanting to find where Led Zep, Stairway to Heaven and Bohemian Rhapsody is, but the vieo is about CHART TOPPING songs. Unfortunately done of them reached number one. They may be critically acclaimed and brilliant, but none meet the criteria.
+TheStreetEmpire so many songs that I can't believe didn't top the charts
Matthew Leicester I know, it's quite weird in a way
Another Brick in the wall part 2??
EXACTLY
I was expecting that to be number one!!!! You let me down WatchMojo
+FloydFan45 can't be mad that it was hotel cali though
+Zane Zicklin More than a feeling?
+Zane Zicklin Will be in the 80s video. Part 2 was released on 8th January 1980 in the US.
No queen songs?
Queen didn't have a U.S. #1 hit until 1980. Prior to that their #1 hits were in the UK charts
Nope. It does make you think wtf.
Now do this with the 80's and the 90's :))
soo just a question...... no sabbath or zeppelin...... Y!
+etni3s1 I agree. But Led Zeppelin's highest rate was number 4 with Whole Lotta Love in January 1970. As for Black Sabbath, Iron Man (highest ranking song) only reached #52.
They didn't release singles so they are not eligible
Doesn't anyone think that Bohemian Raphsody should be on this list. It is technically a rock song
Meh, not that good of a song, not really better than any of these on the list, maybe an honorable mention
Yendor you sir have no functional ears
Never reached #1 so it was automatically disqualified from the list.
but it never hit no. 1 in the us in the 70s
867-5309 (Jenny) by Tommy Tuntone has has HUGE cultural significance... as now in TV and movies, all phone numbers now start with 555-
That, and it's a seriously sick song.
Hotel California is and has been my favorite rock song since I first heard it way back in 1976.
No Stairway to Heaven or Bohemian Rhapsody??? Interesting?
Zeppelin didn't have any number 1s. They didn't release singles because they believed their albums we're to be listened in full.
Oh, ok!! Thanks!
No love for fleedwood mac?
Saito Hiraga *Fleetwood
That's not what American Pie is about. Did you guys research? It's based on the horrific plane crash on February 3, 1959 killing artists Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and The Big Bopper.
+Vitamin Joe That is "the day the music died" as he said in the video....
The most ridiculous part of this is that they had Buddy Holly This Will Be The Day in their 50s music version of this video that they put out recently.
+Jessy Musto
Buddy Holly Never sang a song titled This Will Be The Day.
A bit of research will explain all.
YES!!! Hotel California is my all time favorite song
Hotel California is the best of the best, I still can't resist the lyrics,, just beautiful.
If you ask me Hotel California is the best song ever made. (I am a hardcore Metalhead)
Top Ten Rock Guitarists? Brian May etc.
ah ok. there just so many I cant remember them all. tnx :D
David Gilmour.
Angus Young
Jimi Hendrix
Randy Rhoads
Stevie Ray Vaughan
Brian May
Carlos Santana
Jimmy Page
Eric Clapton
Chuck Berry
I forgot to mention it’s not in a particular order and the list is of all time
Eagles finally get the credit they deserve.
Seriously, Frey died and all anyone cared about was David bowie
+Elliot Walsh Its a shame really. The Eagles are the forgotten rock band of the 70s.
This man speaks the truth!!!
The first and the second place - totally agree
No Abba, no Bee Gees, no Ramones, no Billy Idol? I grew up in the seventies, and these artists help define the decade for me!
The Bee Gees were the most influential and successful of the decade. It’s amazing to see them being ignored all the time.
None of the artists listed had more number ones in the 70’s. They wrote almost 13 number ones and performed on 9.
Okay so I thought American Pie was about Buddy Holly, especially the intro, and because Buddy Holly had a song called that'll be the day (?), right?
It is, that was poorly researched on their part, they just did a 50s version of this video recently and featured that song.
+Jessy Musto thank you, and yeah exactly.
+Jessy Musto yeah but that'll be day the day wasn't a buddy holly song it was the crickets song
How was "me and bobby mcgee" released after Joplin's death when she has a live version of this song! i don't understand
Bohemian Rhapsody ?
+Alexandre Gurjão it really should have been there!
Bohemian Rhapsody didnt become popular until the 80s
+Kingdom Hearts Are you a moron? The song went to number 1, when it was released, where it stayed there for over a 2 months.
it wasn't a chart topper in though
That song didn't top Billboard. Queen made it to the top in the 80's.
Interesting list. Definitely not like mine would be, I mean Crocodile Rock for god's sake?!
I'd prefer Bennie and The Jets
ya cmon where are Village People
I absolutely love Crocodile Rock! My favourite song from Elton John!
where is bohemian rhaspody and stairway to heaven
Never topped charts.
Those are awesome songs, but never topped billboard charts.
No:
Led Zeppelin
Queen
Pink Floyd
Boston
grew up with these songs oh what a night
I started listening to pop rock seriously mid 1973. Only #1 came after I started.
