Thank you guys for continuing to provide us Habs fans with insightful updates. I check in every day to see what you have to say. But right now, my main focus is on hoping and praying that the hated Leafs don't win the Cup this year. Because if they do, we'll *never* hear the end of it. Anyone else with me on that?

I have an insane draft day if you guys have time to read it. First thanks again for always putting out a great product. I dont want to trade matheson yet because of what he brings but here is my draft day. Trade Matheson and Winnipeg first and whatever it takes to get it done to Anaheim for there first round pick and use it to draft Sennecke. Trade Rienbacher to Anaheim for Zegras. Use the 5th overall to select Yakemchuk. Select Cole Hutson in the second round. I have reasons for why i would select these players and make these moves if you would like to talk about it more, thanks for everything you do and have a great day

If you could have 2 Cale Makars on your team are you better or worse because he is small? Size matters yes but we all saw what happened to the offence when Lane is on the ice. If Cole has that potential, then you grab him if available and run like you stole something.

I don't see Kent Hughes drafting Cole. For one simple reason. He shoots left.
For the LONGEST of time I have been asking Montreal to draft for skill and to take risks. They have done that with Slafkovsky and Hutson. They are drafting the way I have wanted them to draft for decades. I can tell you now, they will be drafting two forwards this first round. They want to find impact players immediately. They already have a deep defense pool of prospects. And the way Kent drafts, he drafts for how each player might fit on the team.
Look at David Reinbacher. He was the best defenseman in the draft. Has the height, speed, great hands and vision. And most importantly filled a huge need being that he was a right shooting D. And who would Reinbacher pair with best? Lane Hutson.
I know some people will say, you should always draft Best pick available. They are only BPA if you the person believes it. If the organization doesn't, then your opinion doesn't matter. Especially if you think you can trade these players later for draft capital. Kent Hughes wants players now, not in the future and not to crowd an already crowded backline.
Look at our future defense pairs.
    Guhle-Mailloux
    Hutson-Reinbacher
And here is where I differ with most. I am a big Struble stan and I want him over Xhekaj. So for me it would be Struble on the left and the right is still open.
Marc Godin is a huge Mailloux fan and thinks he has a higher upside over Reinbacher. Plus if a trade has to happen, he would trade Reinbacher over Mailloux. And this is where I think his thinking is flawed. Maillous despite being on the all rookie team in the AHL, he isn't a David Reinbacher. Mailloux doesn't have his speed and Mailloux big issue was always his foot speed. He doesn't have his playmaking nor does he have Reinbacher's shot or size. Reinbacher is 6'3'' after all. He has all the tools to be a first pairing top defenseman.
When the 2023 draft and people wanted Montreal to draft Matvei Michkov. I wanted David Reinbacher. He was the best defenseman in the draft and you don't get to draft number one defenseman that often. You get them when you see them. Montreal did the right thing in drafting Reinbacher. He will be a stud for us for a long time.
Where I see Mailloux fitting in is a lock down roll with Guhle and handling the tough minutes against the other teams top forwards. This is an important roll and he would still get second team power play minutes. Logan will still be very important for the Habs, just not the roll that Godin invisions that he will be.
As for the draft. unless something totally wacky happens and it becomes a top heavy forward draft and defenseman start dropping. I see Montreal drafting two forwards. If Cayden Lindstrom somehow drops because of his injury history, he would be my top pick. Then Ivan Demidov who I think will drop because of his Russian roots, then Berkly Catton. These are my top 3 picks to be drafted in that order. After that I expect several top defenseman and forwards to drop from their rankings since teams always have a different draft strategy. Its up to Kent Hughes to take advantage of that opportunity when it comes.

    • @rakchazak4672
      @rakchazak4672 7 месяцев назад +6

Arber over Struble 100%. He is getting better and better, hardest/fastest slap shot in the entire NHL, hits like a train, scores points, can fight when needed. He is a special player. He turned the Laval Rocket around when he went down. I like Struble I really do, but Arber impacts the game, and you see it. Imagine when his shoulder heals? Good lord he is going to be a wrecking ball.

If lindstrom is gone at 5 than I think they should seriously consider trading the pick for a 1st line forward to give mtl more depth on their 2nd line with Dach and new hook.
Also for free agency to add a boost I’d take a hard look at debrusk or teravainen to add depth on the 3rd line .
I feel like Hughes will pull another Kirby dash this year. Habs just need a couple more forward pieces to be able to make the playoffs. Using both 1sts although exciting doesn’t seem like the ideal decision.
Kent Hughes has impressed me so I trust the mtl brass.
Whoever the scout was that vouched for Jacob Fowler in last years draft. Just let him make all the decisions. I freaking love that guy !
