What a great mother in law throwing you the keys to her brand new Corvette😂
You are an amazing storyteller👍🏼🙏🙏
Enjoyed your story. I just happen to own a red Corvette ('88 C4). I read the same book. It was extremely interesting. I also own a black '03 C5. Whenever I'm hauling my grandkids, I fire up the '96 Impala SS. The thing I remember most about the book was Dave Hill's obsession with the weight of each individual part. I also remember that the engineers said that cost wise, reducing weight is just as effective as increasing horsepower.
Great story!!
Love your Corvette story Lyle❤ My Corvette obsession came at the age of 13. My dad worked at a Chevrolet dealership as a mechanic at the time. One day he came home with a poster from work of the most beautiful car I'd ever seen🧡 It was a poster of an orange Stingray Corvette. Of course I hung it on my bedroom wall and would stare at it constantly. And I would actually tell myself, I have to hurry and start working before the prices of them go up! Seems like they were 30k back then🤔 And 30K was like a million to this poor girl lol. But it remained my dream car. And my dad was always a car guy. But after working on them many years for a living, he was not a fan of Corvettes. And always told me, if I ever get one I better find someone else to work on it. Of course neither of us thought I'd ever get my dream car. But of course I'd joke and tell him if I ever do, I'm going to pull up at your house and make you ride in it. I decided to buy a C5 in 2010. But didn't tell any family or friends. Then I went to my parents house but parked in front of the neighbors house. I called my mom and told her to bring dad outside. When dad seen me behind the wheel of a Corvette, he told mom "That B#*%$ done gone and bought a Corvette!"
And yes, I took him for a scary lil ride 😂
So glad I got my dream car and got to take my dad for that ride, before he passed away a couple of years later.
I left out many details, but still a long story. But had to tell it ❤😁
I was late 50's before I allowed myself a Corvette. 96 LT4. Last year I added a 13 GS.
What a great life story. Won't go into how I fell in love with Covettes except to say as a sophomore in HS (1971) I worked at a Volkswagen / Porsche / Audi dealership as a detailer. One of the mechanics had a 65 or 66 Corvette with sidepipes. He would take me on some spirited rides and by 1973 I bought my 1st Vette, a 1970 LT-1. (From there to a 1973, 1987, 1995 & 2000) Here I am today on my 6th Vette, a 2003 Z06, millinium yellow. and I love it.
That is a great story thanks for sharing. A perfect example of how a single moment can change the rest of your life.
Got to have a signed copy of that book to display at my car shows😁👍
DANG wheres the photo album when you need it! great story!
I met James Schefter at one of his book signings. I bought two autographed copies of All Corvettes are Red and talked with him for about an hour because he was at a bookstore that was pretty slow. He was a journalist and not really a Corvette Guy. But, he did a great job of telling the C5 story. RIP James. I wish you were still with us.
What a great story! Thanks for sharing.
Great story! Thanks for sharing!
I loved your story,
I read that book! I read all of them. Great story Lyle! Very Cool!
Loved your story , now reflecting when I seen my first vet at 10 years old , then started washing cars at a GM dealer in 1975 because techs were a dime a dozen. Then we received the last white 75 convertible :(
Then hearing all the chatter when the 78 pace car rolled of the truck, I committed to myself ,I will own a vet one day. 1971 (AC) , 2003 Anni car and 2023 anni carbon flash HTC

You are a corvette celebrity. Keep it up man 👍
Loved your life story and it surely brightened my day! I’m 68, out of high school became a 3rd generation steel worker. The mill I worked in shutdown in mid 80’s. Worked in a motorcycle dealership, raced bikes then we started our own dealership. Took my first flying lesson in 1991. College, the business, and flying was my life and eventually got hired by NetJets. Now I’m retired and watching and reading everything I can about Corvettes, with the hope of getting a C6. And YOU and your awesome videos are a big part of my desire. Thanks all you do!!
Man, that is a great story, too!! Let us know how we can help in your quest for the right C6! Lyle :)
Get your C6 soon, they are so fun and you cannot beat the bang for the buck on that car. I love my 2008 C6 more Everytime I see it in my garage and I'm so happy I got my Corvette and was able to take him for several rides before he passed away this last June.
My first Corvette was a second hand ‘67 convertible Corvette which followed with a ‘78 ( got it stolen in less than one week after purchasing brand new) I replaced it with a new ‘79 Corvette. My wife convinced me to sell it when the price of gas started going through the roof. After that I was forced to look at “normal” cars for a daily ride. I’m just short of 80 years old. Still miss each of my Corvettes. Once bitten, it never goes away.
It is never too late to get back into one...especially with the ease of living with the C5, C6 or C7. You deserve it! Lyle
Thanks for sharing your story Lyle
Love your story, thank you for sharing. All the best in the future.
That's a cool story!
Man that is definitely a cool story ❤
That was great
Great story Lyle and the 63 split window solidified my love for the Corvette too and I’ve had the pleasure of owning 7 so far. Thank you for sharing your story. Ps - I own the book and enjoyed the story very much. 👍🚗🇺🇸
Great story Thanks for sharing Lyle.
The story you just told was OUTSTANDING. ;-)
It’s very funny how fate intervenes. It happened with my career as well as the pure luck of running into my future wife. Thanks for sharing your story. It all starts with attraction and heart. You are attracted to the cars and your good heart opened the door. Your airport story cinched it for me. Carry on Lyle.
Thanks so much for your "Corvette" history!!
It all started when I was 6 and a red and white early '60s C2 drove by our house. I said, "Dad, what was that?" He said, "A Chevy Corvette." I looked over my shoulder at the '64 Chevy station wagon in our driveway and said, "Someday, I want to get a Chevy like that red car!". 17-years later I took dad for a ride in our '71 Vette and he had the biggest smile on his face!!
We had a C3, '71 4-sp when we got married 44-years ago. a few cars later we got a C4, '86 coupe and drove it for many years. Later we got a beautiful, "built", C6, 2008 Indy Pace Car coupe, which I sadly sold due to changes at work. :( But now we have a C5, 2003 Z06 that was built for track duty. It is too much fun to be legal!! Good times!!
Great story Lyle, I too read that book...we all have a Corvette story to tell...mine was a friend's 67 427/435 car :)
Do tell your experiences!!
Just ordered a copy, thanks for story!
I really enjoyed your life story! Thank you for sharing! It also reinforces to me that the Corvette community is pretty great and full of good people!
I also ordered the book, please autograph it if you see
this note.
A movie 🎬 needs to be made from that Love story ❤❤❤
Really enjoyed this vid and hearing about Lyle's story regarding his Corvette journey and the book that changed his life here in this temporal existence and brought him so much joy. Very cool! God has blessed him indeed and I pray the blessings keep coming for him. Even though the 'Vette I drive is a red C4 coupe, I would no doubt enjoy reading it. I know of an even better book though that can change a person's life forever and bring eternal, everlasting joy and it's known as The Bible. It's God's love letter of rescue and salvation to us, his creation, besides being THE best selling book of all time. It explains our sin problem and our need for a Savior in King Jesus Christ who died to pay the price for our transgressions against our all holy Heavenly Father and rose again to conquer death thus making a way for us to eternal life in Him (as opposed to eternal death in Hell). Such GOOD NEWS (aka, The Gospel) that it's THE BEST news ever! Remember, no matter what temporal joy and pleasures this broken world may bring, Jesus IS better! He, King Jesus, saved me from me and I know he can save you from you.
Thank you for the story 🙏🏾 I have a story also that begins with models wonderful. Nosale
Lyle Fantastic story and experience! Thank you for sharing ! Each of us I am sure have our own story as well each one very personal 😅
Pretty cool story I enjoyed hearing it.
I just knew that was the book you were going to mention. I vividly remember when that book was released- I was deployed to the Mediterranean on a submarine (USS ATLANTA SSN-712) and couldn't get a copy. I forgot about it after the deployment, and didn't get a copy until I purchased my '01 Corvette convertible- a great book for any Corvette enthusiast. Interesting that book got your foot in the door in the Corvette world!
Really enjoyed that Lyle, I go back a little further in time when I saw the 1953 at the Auto Show in NYC while I was still in high school. I was really hoping that it would have the '53 Oldsmobile motor as was rumored to be, however, never happened, Zora Duntov stated later that it was too large a displacement and weight, ergo the '55 small block! Luv the hook up with Steve and you,
As an owner of three Corvettes over the past 20 years, I can relate to your passion. I read 'All Corvettes Are Red' a few months ago and agree it provides incredible insight in the GM culture and politics involved in producing the legendary Corvette. It gave me a much greater appreciation for the C5 and just how revolutionary the engineering was, expanding to the C6 and C7. Amazing how that book and a conversation with the gentlemen in the airport could change your life. Awesome story and thanks for sharing. For the record, your website is the best Corvette forum on RUclips IMO.
Awesome story Lyle. Enjoyed every minute of it. Matter of fact i say you do a story video once a week haha. They couldn't have picked a better guy for the job. Keep up the good work!
Terrific story, and it was meant to be your path.
I met Lyle a few days ago. He’s totally genuine and really loves Corvettes. He cares a lot for the people he meets.
I'm very happy the C5 came out the way it did. It is my favorite car and I'm so glad I got to buy one.
After reading this book.. The C5 was, and still is the only Corvette I will ever own...
Such a cool story !!!! Thanks for sharing. You Steve and crew are the best !!!! Tony and Bronwyn C6 baby
Great story well done had 2 red corvette convertibles 1986, and new 2002 with red interior and last 2006, love these cars, keep up the great work on your channel just loved this one Christopher Ottawa Canada
Lyle, this is a great story!! Thank you for sharing it with us! My dad was a car guy and responsible for making me a car guy. But he never actually had a really cool car. The closest he got was a cream-colored '65 Mustang Coupe ... with a straight six (sigh). On the other hand, his brother (my uncle) had a '63 C2 convertible (!! so close to being a split window !!). Later, he had a C4 convertible. Besides the cars, he was still my favorite uncle. A year and a half ago, I bought my first Corvette (C7 GS), and I think of my dad and my uncle almost every time I look at it.
Thank you for sharing. Makes a difference
Wonderful story! Love to hear how other people got the car bug. Thanks for sharing Lyle, it’s our benefit to have a guy like you at C&S and here on RUclips!
Really cool story!!
Lyle, I agree, it is one of the best historical (and political) books on the Corvette ever! Until you've read it, no amount of discussion can prepare you for the vast differences between the C4 and C5 models.
What a great story! Now I’m even more glad I have a copy of that book 😊
Lyle, another interesting read : "In the Rings of Saturn" by Joe Sherman. Fascinating book about the birth of the Saturn Corporation. I'm showing my prejudice but that is the exact car America needs again. Before I sold my 2002 SC2 5spd three door coupe, we rode 305,000 miles together. What a car...dealer had added a moonroof, the aero kit, spoiler package, lowered body and Borbet wheels, the "accessorized package". $21k sticker.
What a Great Story you’ve shared 🙂
Lyle, you’re partly responsible for the pick of my 2012 GS, as a result of watching your web videos. I always been attracted to Corvettes, but the budget and Family priorities made the Vette only a thought. After my retirement, like many folks of my age, the moment was right; my wife and I started to look for that road trips Vette. While considering your various Web advises, one morning I found that great looking GS convertible (very low milage, one owner, right colour for us) and at a decent price. Since then, I’ve enjoyed every rides, I often Thank You in my mind, when I roll that GS in the garage until the next ride.
Long leave the King, who thinks he is « just a Dude » !! ✌👍👍👍
Great story! I never thought anything good happened at BWI!
Thank you for sharing
Great story Lyle….I have the book and a red corvette so it worked on me as well! Cheers
Great Story. Thanks for sharing it.
Lyle, thanks for sharing. My first love was my uncle’s
Root beer brown 1974 Corvette which was the first year of the new split rear polyurethane bumper. He pulled up in our driveway with it and I was really impressed that an American car could look and sound that good. It was the whole package. Now at 69 I am looking for a low mileage C5, C6, or C7. Your videos are very informative in helping me to decide on the differences of each model. Thinking 2014 Z51 manual with Kalahari leather 2LT. Talk about a needle in a haystack but she is out there somewhere. Thanks again Lyle! Gonna get the book by the way…
I was a witness to much of this!!
Me too!😊
Great story. Thanks for sharing.
Your passion for my most favorite automobile in the world CORVETTE shows in each video you make ! My brother in law who owned a 1964 Vette that his now has always said Vettes are RED cars are Black and trucks doesn't matter but are better In black . Keep the videos coming no such as a bad corvette video! 😊
Decided to check out the book after watching this. Didnt think I would be able to find it here in the UK but managed to find an as new first edition hardback with dust cover for £19! Just waiting for the postman now.
Great story, Lyle. Mine was getting picked up for church youth group in a red 1969 that had been crashed and repaired by the youth group leader. I got thrown back in the seat when he dumped the clutch and I was hooked at 15. Fast forward to last year, and for my 60th birthday I bought my first Corvette…a 1993 40th anniversary with 19,xxx original miles. It only took me 45 years to fulfill my dream, but I did it!
Great story! I too fell in love from a plastic C3 model. And first ride in a new 85 C4. Now own 04!
What a fascinating story! I called C&S Corvette last year when having a problem with my head lights. Lyle answered the phone, to my surprise, and was so helpful. What a great guy.
Hi Lyle, greetings from Trondheim in Norway! Loved you story and all the videos you put out. I really appreciate all I have learned from your videos. I bought the car of my dreams a year ago, a black C5 Z06. I've been to the USA six times. Maybe next time I will come and see you😊
Wow!!! Listening to your story just reignited my passion for the Corvette lineage, especially getting my fist Vette in 1998. Very few people understand the passion for the car is not to impress anyone, but an appreciation for the heritage and respect for all those who created, fought for and grew the legendary line. And that’s what you show in every one of your videos. Thank you.
dude… awesome story. Made me go down memory lane too on my career and those pivotal points.
Thank you for sharing your story. I enjoyed hearing about your experiences. My love for Corvette started when I was 8 and accompanied my father to a Chevrolet dealership to have his 1953 Chevrolet serviced. A salesperson gave me a Corvette promotional items and my love for the Corvette began. I have owned 5.
Thanks for sharing your story Lyle. As a box boy in 1969, I put groceries into a C2 coupe, behind the passenger seat and marveled at the cockpit aircraft style doors and vowed to have one some day. I bought a '66 coupe years later and am in the process of restoring now.
Loved the story, Lyle. I worked at a corvette dealership in San Diego during the early 90's and didn't actually get paid money, but got parts I needed in exchange. I loved working there and being around different year Corvettes. Keep these podcasts coming. Love every one.
Great story! I really enjoyed it!
Great story Lyle! Really appreciate you sharing this! I had a '91 in high school. I picked up my wife by giving her the keys to drive it on Spring Break. We've been together ever since! She now has a C8 and we have a '96 C4...both are Torch Red! I wound up going to West Point and sold my '91 about '95 or so. But I have loved them ever since I saw my neighbor who had a brand new '85. We have lots in common and it is just great to hear the passion you have for the car! Appreciate all the content as well! Very helpful time and again when I've run across issues or wanted to learn more!
Lyle, always great to hear how YOU and many of us, were first enthralled with the Corvette. My story started in the Summer of 1969 when stationed at the NAS in Brunswick, ME. I was enlisted at that time and on duty when an Air Force dental officer friend of a dentist I worked with, drove over from Topsham AFB in a brand new, 1969 Corvette 4spd coupe. It was a beautiful blue color. He told me " hop in, I'll take you for a ride"...I said, "I can't, I'm on duty "...to which he replied, "gotcha covered". The ride up I-95 (one exit worth) was, needless to say, exilerating. What an amazing car...young people today cannot even begin to fathom how incredibly DIFFERENT that car, in those years, was to anything else on the road. My dream was realized in 1979 after finishing up my undergrad degree and becoming a Navy dentist...the red L-82 4 spd coupe, black interior and Pace Car spoilers, was a dream finally realized. I did read "All Corvette's are Red" and still have the book on my shelf. Thanks for making it available to others, it is an engaging and well researched documentary. You are very right, the Corvette is a survivor. ( I laughed about the yellow C3 with side pipes...I tried a pair of chrome Hooker headers on mine for a while...what a sound ☺️)
Dude that was an amazing recap of your life!!! Blown away!!! 😃 Thanks for sharing it.
Autograph is personal, you are helping and entertaing a lot of fans, enthusiasts and owners of Corvettes off course, it's important very much in theirs lives and not everybody can get to Florida easily to handshake you. This is kind like it 😊
Awesome car guy story. Certainly explains your passion for corvettes
I appreciate your story, Lyle. Your Dad sounds like mine, he cared nothing about cars, or bikes. I, on the other hand, have always loved bikes and cars. I have owned over 300 motorcycles, and 3 Corvettes, the latest an 01 ZO6 with 23K. My Corvette is red! Torch Red!
That was great
DUDE!! I have that book and am only 1/2 way through it.
My story is precious to me... I became a OEM design engineer at Ford in 1992. And have been and am still a OEM design engineer here 32yrs later. (different OEM)
So much in that book resonates with me. And.... for whatever reason the Corvette has been in my heart and head since the 70s when I was a kid.
Today I have a 49K mile 04 Z06 in the garage and I hope to keep it for the rest of my life. With a few mods it's an incredible vette. Runs low to mid 12s, I get 28mpg on road trips, is comfortable to drive, and SOUNDS awesome w/a full exhaust upgrade. IMO GM should have put a cowl induction hood on the Z06's.....
Anyway... your story is very cool and thank you!
Shalom from a C5 Z06 owner in Ohio
Excellent story.Continued success at C&S.
And that is what captured many a young boy. Still play with toys! Great story.
Thanks for that background Lyle. I had wondered about that.
I love your story! As an owner of a 2000 C5 I couldn't resist as I heard stories about all the fighting over the C5.
Ok now this is a great story. I love these types of stories, where a chance meeting with a stranger turns into something special. Awesome Lyle 👍🏻
Lyle, you're the best! Loved your Corvette story!
I've had my copy of All Corvettes Are Red since 1996! Great book. Lyle has caused me to dust it off and read it again. Thanks!
Great story Lyle. This was fate and meant to be. I'm very fortunate to have found your channel, which have saved me thousands in repairs over the past five years. I also own the book and hits close to home, since I worked at the GM Tech Center in Warren MI from 1981 to 1987. Great post sir!!
Have the book👍🏾
Man love your content!!
That’s an awesome share. I own a 2002 corvette and I have been through many trials with this car. But I’ve not given up on it. It was struck by lightning a few years ago just sitting in my front yard and that’s just one instance. lol. Love your channel
Awesome story Lyle. Glad to know you guys. You've taken care of me. Thanks again for everything you guys do.
Loved the story...great video
Great Story Lyle, I felt the same way when I saw a C2 big block with side pipes, I eventually bought a 1966 coupe with side pipes with a 67 big block hood , I since sold that car and now im looking for a C6 Z06 or a GS , Or if I can find a ZR1 within my budget.
Great story. I too had an event at an airport (JFK) that changed my career path when I was 29. Destiny or coincidence?
Great story about how your career started with Corvettes.
On a side note, I graduated from USCG boot camp too.
Whenever I hear of anyone else graduating from Cape May, I am always interested in what company they were assigned to.
My company was "Oscar 106".
What was your brother in laws company if you mind me asking.
A great video .

I was 16 when the C5 debuted, and already a diehard Corvette fan! I bought the book and read it cover to cover in a matter of hours- to say I was obsessed was an understatement! A few years later, my mom surprised me with a trip to the National Corvette Museum and a tour of the assembly plant at Bowling Green while we were on a family vacation. Years later, I lost my hardcover copy of the book during a divorce. Fast forward another decade and a half, and I ordered a paperback copy. It’s still on my desk at work due to the inspirational nature of the story. About a year ago, I became the proud owner of a red C6, and it has lived up to the dream in every way! We’ll be driving it to south west Florida this summer, so I hope to stop by and visit the shop on our way to or from Fort Myers. After that- we’re off to Bowling Green for a dream photo op…
I gave a copy to my BFF. He is retired from EDS and worked in most of the plants (buildings) mentioned in the book. He worked in the Engineering buildings that had the"Mona Lisa" breakdown of compeditors vehicles. His version of the stories came to life for me as I reread the book for the third time...WOW!!!
