    I met a new Nazareth fan on facebook and I sent this video to her, I bought this set last year and it's fantastic, Nazareth has been my very favorite band for many years , no matter the line up as long as Dan is singing and Pete is thumping the bass, I very also wasn't optimistic about the new singer but I have to admit that the album they did with him is excellent as well, just doesn't really seem like Nazareth without Dan but it's a great album none the less. Thanks, this is an informative video. B

      @@NowSpinningMagazine I was a huge Nazareth fan all through the 70s but then they just seemed to vanish and I didn't even know about all the stuff they had done after Malice In Wonderland. Not until I saw Boogaloo offered in one of those buy 12 cds for a penny ads did I even know they were still making music and we first got the internet at work and I found out about all the music that wasn't even released in the U.S., so I started buying anything I could find by them. Then I saw this box set last year so I ordered it . I had seen them open for Deep Purple back in 1976 in B'ham, Al and they were great, then I got to see them open for Deep Purple again in 2001 in Houston, Tx, that may be the best show I've ever seen in my life~! Deep Purple was so loud in 76 that you couldn't even understand what the singer was singing,pretty much a miserable experience, but when I saw them in Houston they were still loud but so crystal clear, never will forget that show. Nazareth was very good as well but only played a short set that day as Deep Purple and Lynyrd Skynyrd were headling an all day show with about 10 bands. I actually got to meet Manny Charlton in Dallas a few years ago and even got to buy lunch for him one day when I visited my friends who lived there, pretty interesting experience. Thanks for the reply! B

      Apart from the obvious classic albums in the 70s I was unfamiliar with a lot of their albums. Since getting this I have become a big fan and really appreciate what they achieved. They are certainly underrated but thankfully BMG had faith in their reputation that they warranted this kind of box set. The amount of stuff you get is terrific! Thank you for watching - Phil :)

It was put together with great care and very extensive research. Requests were put to fans for memorabilia for one of the two books too. Only £160.00 plus postage.

    Great to see how well-made these box sets are and they are perhaps a bit out of the price point I would personally spend on a box set. Loved their 70's albums and my all-time favourite Nazareth track has to be "Freewheeler" on the Loud N' Proud album. I had to laugh when you said "if you keep buying these things they take up a lot of space". The thought that instantly came to my mind when you said that was "if you keep buying these things you will empty your bank account" LOL.

    • @NowSpinningMagazine
      @NowSpinningMagazine  Год назад +1

      Hi Lee, the price point for this at one time was £125. Which was incredible for what you got. Especially when you consider the recent Slade box was £40!

    • @LeeLucas
      @LeeLucas Год назад +1

      @@NowSpinningMagazine I know and I should point out that just because it does not fit in with the price point I would spend on a box set it is not worth the money. Looking at this box set and the Wishbone Ash one I would actually say there is more value with this Nazareth box set because you get vinyl with it. Although personally for myself vinyl does not interest me and I gave up on that in the late 90's. No way on this earth since it came back into circulation in 2017 onwards is a vinyl album worth more than the price of a CD. The price of vinyl these days is shocking and before it went out of circulation it was always cheaper than the price of a CD. Since it came back they think it's some superior format and they are charging the earth for it when it's nothing of the sort.
      The box sets that entice me the most are the ones with Multitrack Recordings because I am a surround FREAK! more than anything these days and when it comes to 5.1 and original Quad mixes they are the things that rock my boat more today than anything. I still live in that past regarding music and am perhaps stuck in the 70's more than anything else. The biggest majority of the music I buy these days I had years ago on vinyl and it is the fact that new mixes are being done and they are being done in surround that entices me to buy the music I had all those years ago again.
      Though I do draw the line when it comes to the actual price point and would much prefer them to do standalone packages than pay the price of a boxset just to get your hands on the multitrack recording. I still buy CD's but when it comes to boxsets with CD's I would not go any higher than £40. I saw the Manfred Mann's Earth Band box set on your channel yesterday and see you picked it up for 80 Euro instead of the higher price on Amazon which is around £120 today. Looking at the way things were done with how the CD's were packaged I honestly don't think that box set is worth the money you paid for it never mind what Amazon is asking for it. I love the band to bits and I have the biggest majority of their albums on CD. I had them all up to Budapest Live in 1984 on vinyl years ago as well.
      I would say the biggest majority of boxsets are more of a vanity item something that looks good to put on a shelf rather than an actual must to go out and buy. Especially if like myself you had the biggest majority of the albums that were in the boxset anyway. I honestly would not give twopence for most remasters and I prefer new mixes in relation to them though, of course, you are not always onto a winner with them either. Looking at both the Nazareth and Wishbone Ash boxsets the thing I like the most about them is the book. I do love informative content though no way would I pay those prices to get my hands on it.

    • @NowSpinningMagazine
      @NowSpinningMagazine  Год назад +1

      Hi Lee, it is all subjective and this is the same for the price point. The Manfred Mann's Earth Band box was a bargain for me as I did not have any of the albums so buying them individually would have cost a lot more and I would never have got around to it. The most expensive sets were Wishbone Ash and Ian Hunter both around £250. There are such important artists for me and again they contained a lot of things I did not have. At the the other end of the scale there are box sets in my Amazon basket which are under £25 and I am waiting for the price to drop. Some of my favourite box sets are the Columbia Complete Albums sets such as The Blue Oyster Cult one. This is around £55 and worth every penny. For Quad mixes at a great price - this is a great label www.duttonvocalion.co.uk/. I have reviewed some of their releases on this channel. Phil

    • @LeeLucas
      @LeeLucas Год назад

      @@NowSpinningMagazine I can understand if you never had the albums the box set is perhaps a cheaper way to go about getting them in the end and any box set should really offer some sort of value which I think these do. But it's also a lot of money to fork out in one go sort of thing. I use Dutton Vocalion myself and have had some excellent bargains from them many of the SACD's also come with two albums for the price of one. I noticed in one of your update videos a few weeks ago that you were talking about some of the box sets you have coming up for review and one of them was the Quadio box set by The Doobie Brothers. They are a band I was never into at all and I was totally blown away by that box set.

      Hi Led Zep, thank you for watching. I do agree with you here but I guess there must have been a compromise on cost with all the other items they did include. Cherry Red and Esoteric have started including booklets again and mini gatefolds in their recent box sets. Phil :)

      @@NowSpinningMagazine Exactly, and when you have a BIG BOX SET, make it worth more valuable. That's my opinion of course . Yes, music of course is No.1 but also design for us matters as well. For example, look at the Japanese cd's. So attractive and well made with combination with the music. That's love. You get the whole package on a different level. For me the Box Nazareth is a really good box for it's price but a lost opportunity to make this the greatest box ever... Details? Yes, but for me details matter as well. I had this box, even though i have most of the discography from the band on vinyl and cd and i bought it for the joy, but it was a dissapointment for me because of these details, so i sold it...

    • @NowSpinningMagazine
      @NowSpinningMagazine  3 года назад +1

      I am with you on this. I had very little of Nazareth’s catalog so this and the extras still makes it an exceptional box set for me. I can imagine the disappointment with regards to the CD sleeves as it was seeing this in the big Uriah Heep set that stopped me buying it. I am a big Heep fan and have all their albums. I that case they not only used single card sleeves for the albums but also doubled up some of the classic albums so two were on one CD with poor photoshop mash up of the artwork. The ELP Fanfare Box set also has single card sleeves for the actual albums.

    • @Louisejames23
