- Songs from CINDERELLA ON BROADWAY
by Richard Rodgers + Oscar Hammerstein II
(Williamson Music Piano Arrangement 2013)
ELLA:
When you're driving through the moonlight on the highway,
When you're driving through the moonlight to the dance;
You are breathless with a wild anticipation
Of adventure and excitement and romance.
Then at last you see the towers of the palace
Silhouetted on the sky above the park,
And below them is a row of lighted windows
Like a lovely diamond necklace in the dark.
CHARLOTTE:
It looks that way,
GABRIELLE:
The way you say.
MADAME:
She talks as if she knows.
ELLA:
I do not know these things are so.
I only just suppose...
I suppose that when you come into the ballroom,
And the room itself is floating in the air,
If you're suddenly confronted by His Highness,
You are frozen like a statue on the stair.
You're afraid he'll hear the way your heart is beating.
And you know you mustn't make the first advance.
You are seriously thinking of retreating;
Then you seem to hear him asking you to dance.
You make a bow,
A timid bow,
And shyly answer, "Yes."
MADAME:
How would you know that this is so?
ELLA:
I do no more than guess.
GABRIELLE & CHARLOTTE:
You can guess 'til you're blue in the face
but you can't even picture such a man
He is more than a prince...
He's an ace!
ELLA / (GABRIELLE & CHARLOTTE):
But sisters, I really think I can...
I think that I can picture such a man...
(He is tall...) And straight as a lance!
(And his hair...) Is dark and wavy.
(His eyes...) Can melt you with a glance!
He can turn a girl to gravy! - Видеоклипы

Did you arrange this? A student of mine would love to play it!

Esmerelda+ Prunella: Yes ma'am
Evil Stepmother: Cinderella, here is your broom GET TO WORK!!!
Cinderella: I don't mind sweeping. This night is mine and no one and nothing can take it from me.
Wow
@Maddy Good That last line of Cinderella's in your transcript of the song: "This night is mine and no one and nothing can take it from me" is only on the album of the 1965 Cinderella and not in the actual production. The songs on that album are clearly not taken directly from the broadcast of the show but must have been produced in a studio. That line on the album really bothers me, because it is so out of character for the way Lesley Ann Warren played Cinderella! She's not vindictive and triumphant; she's naive and dreamy, and head-over-heels in love with the prince!
question do y’all think an alto could play Cinderella? I mainly sing alto bc I can sing low notes but my range also goes up to around A#5
Isabella the highest note she sings is a D5 I believe
The stepsisters apparently had different names in every production of _Rodgers' and Hammersteins' Cinderella_ . They were Prunella and Esmerelda in the 1965 Lesley Ann Warren version, and they were Portia and Joy in the 1957 Julie Andrews version. I don't remember what their names were in the 1997 Brandy version, but since your video description says this song is from *Cinderella on Broadway* , I guess they were Gabrielle and Charlotte in that production. (The 1965 version does not include the stepsisters' last bit about "You can guess till you're blue in the face," etc. I don't remember the later versions well enough to remember if they included that part, but the 1957 version definitely did.)
